The Cup Grow Off Official Banter Thread

My local hydro store is 150 or so miles away, and they have never had everything I needed when I went. They would probably laugh in my face if I asked if they had compost tea, or just stare blankly...

I'm of the school of thought that compost teas are not necessary in coco as far as nutrient availability goes however I do believe that they can potentially keep the root zone healthy and efficient therefore keeping them able to suck up all the super available hydroponic nutrients.

Do I use compost tea in coco? I don't, but I certainly could without ill effects. If I were to use it I would maybe be only once a week as kind of a health tonic you could say, and I wouldn't even consider stopping the nutrients until flush time. Coco needs constant nutrients to maintain a consistent pH/EC and to keep it full of calcium and magnesium.

One can't replace nutrients with compost tea in coco, because there are no organic inputs that the beneficial bacteria/fungi can break down into nutrition for the plant.

My plants love when I give them tea in coco, 1 cup worm castings or compost blended in a smoothie 30ml of GH vegan blend with kelp alfalfa etc, 5 tsp of unsulphered molasses, and a scoop of great white in a 5 gallon bucket of water bubbled overnight. When you use it you can notice a growth spurt in a few days and the plants really green up and look happy.
I try to feed a tea every few weeks in veg and once near the end of stretch.

I just tried this about 3 weeks ago in my coco/perlite clones. I think not enough runoff in new coco was causing bad root health. I had super purple stems and yellow growth. I mixed up almost the same things as @DrMcSkunkins, a cup of ewc, 1 tsp un sulfured molasses, 1/2 tsp hydroguard, and 1 tsp Zeus juice (humic acids/kelp extract) in 4 gal water and bubbled for 24h. It came out to like 220 ppm so I added a light base nutrient to the mix and fed. They seemed to respond right away. I've improved my watering since then and they are all way healthier. I really think it was the catalyst to them improving. I'm thinking of brewing one up in the next day or so for both my coco and soil girls.

Relatively how many additives are you using, compared to how many you want to use. I'd rather stick to low amounts of ferts. Just me thinking, out loud. Fungai, microbes. Bacterias, macro-micro.

Good point. In coco it seems like I'm using quite a few things. In my soil girls, water lol. That's why my third run will be in ffof and just use teas and light nutes as needed. I really like the simplicity of soil.

Great answer. As you wanna go soil I wanna go coco. I've done coco along time ago. I didn't know you should keep feeding them while in coco. About ten years ago I bought a brick of coco. I thought I knew what to do with it. Trial and error is always welcomed here.

That's pretty funny. I wanted to start in soil, newb error I bought a coco/sphagnum blend. I went with it and I really like coco but I know I'm not maximizing the use of it. My next run is a mix, half coco, half soil. I like the simplicity of soil so my third run will be all soil. At some point though I want to try a top feed dtw in coco. I'm with you, just learning and trial and error to see what works for me.

Soil works. Always. Coco has this 45 day harvest window, have you noticed anyone getting it done in 45? My buddy does. He's always buying new coco though. But the herb is super duper dee duper.

my solo cup is going down now the shoot has reached 20"
laughs.. sink is out of control.. and now im having mag deficiency issues..

live and learn.. top your solo cups!
i finally had to top mine at like the 12th node and it has 4 tops now. laughs.. but yeah right now the old leafs are burning up, and a few spots on new growth.

foliar with cal-mag just not helping.. so i decided instead of spraying id use it for watering.. maybe it will work i dunno.
chris.

Week 9

:fire:One seed. One dream:fire:

LSD-25 Auto still sitting at 1.0EC(500ppm).

Gonna drop the food or reduce it to 25% for a week in the next day or so:smoking: Then I'll let her ride out on the pH'd tap water diet till about week 12 most likely.

Put mine in the flower tent tonight, probably post some stretchy pics over the next few weeks. The roots looked nice and white even though she sits in runoff for sometimes 18 hours a day, it's the only way to keep her watered...

Lost my iPad for a while so never updated but mine has bit the dust. Went down country to help a friend in need of seed + extras and on my return my own died.i had been gone from them no longer than 18hrs. Leaves felt crispy and were dark dark green. Soil was still damp. Had a friend looking after my dog in the house but I'm almost certain he wouldn't have found the room let alone hurt my plant
