So since I love planning things, I'm already preparing ideas for my next grow. So far this is what I'm thinking. I am thinking about a grow tent (36"x 20" x 62") doing one plant and trying my luck at mainlining to get 8 colas, if I could figure a way to do six I'd like that more. I would probably use my light with three bulbs of CFL 40w (150w replacement) and I'm thinking about a gallon fabric bag. Possibly trying a new medium, any ideas? Give me thoughts or substitutions.

You really think I should go with an LED? Does it work better with mainlining? If I get a big enough one? I have done a lot of reading I'm trying to work on size and shape. So I want to try the mainlining, plus I think it'd be fun. What type of light would work best for mainlining IYO?

What types of LED would be best for it? Like a rectangle light or something? How strong should it be?

I used Lumigrow LED luminaires and had good results growing a scrog. (Except I was a dumbass and had light leaks through the window insulation.)

The good quality COBs like Rahz uses at tastyled can flower well at 25w/sq foot but 35W/sq.ft. is most desirable. Your tent has five square feet and with reflective walls I'd guess the lower number would be good, certainly will blow away any CFL array.

Tasty includes a switch for lower power during veg; the spectrum remains the same.

5ft x 30W/ft = 150W (IF it is an efficient design) Otherwise, go with 40 or 50W per square foot which is the same as HPS. There would be less IR heating but you don't gain that much with lower efficiency LEDs like my blue Lumigrows.

I was looking at a 300W LED, I wanna use it for the mainlining I think plus I can get a deal on it. Is there any benefit to having only six colas instead of right and does anyone think that six is useless and why not just do eight?

Experiment with 6 but make sure when you have the 4 tops and want to go to 6 you pick opposite growth tips to top. For example if you were looking down on the 4 headed plant you would top the top left and bottom right growth tip. I'd be interested to see what happens but in a way it does kind of defeat the purpose of having a perfectly symmetrical manifold throughout the plant.

I think a t5 with the CFL setup you have could serve you well, it's inexpensive and you can get high output veg and flower bulbs to achieve better spectrum for what you're doing. The cfls you have could serve as supplemental lighting for your t5, you could put them deeper in the canopy, or wherever you feel you need the extra light. Depends on how much money you want to throw at it but it is an option. People do well in small spaces with t5s. Not gonna have massive yields but optimize your space and you can grow some good smoke for yourself.

I agree with him. A t5 fixture would be great. Along with hortilux t5 power veg bulbs. They have good uv light output, and a nice full spectrum.

I will be buying an 8 bulb t5 fixture with those hortilux power veg bulbs for my veg chamber '2x'2x'1. That's 16k lumens in 4 cu ft so that's 4,000 lumens a sq ft. Seems like a decent amount of light...

How does it defeat the purpose? If I could get it right would there be more energy in the 6 as there would be eight?

It says to defoliate fans but I have seen side by side that the deformation of fans of young plants will slow them down. My opinion but I've seen it in my room.

Would you recommend 4 or 8 then? Or doesn't it really matter?

I'm running 3 with 8 and one with 4, I think if you wanted to fill that space 8 would do it really well. Also considerror the lighting fixture size when designing your room. I'd hate to have to use a 2 foot fixture because the 3 foot was exactly 3 feet long.

*Edit* apparently it's somewhat difficult to find 3 foot t5s
