Hey farmer ,so ive been using ffof soil since I started growing its always done me good. But just a couple years ago I decided I need better drainage for more frequent feedings. Well first I went with roots organics its was ok but it seemed to introduce mites into my garden. prior to this I had never had mites in my garden years without mites. So next I chose sunshine mix #4 it was a bit to much coco for my liking . So finally I tried happy frog drainage was perfect loved it ph ran good happy ladies in the room. Then three months in thrips, it took me quite a while to identify them. And my garden suffered and im still recovering, got this run and im gonna be done with happy frog. So any opinion is a good opinion at this point. One love

Seed or clones?
Given the previous mite problem I'd guess your bugs are coming from somewhere besides the soil

My guess, if indeed the bugs are due to your change of soil, would be the bugs might be travelling in on the actual bags or packaging not in the soil itself. I've used both OF and HF for years and years and have never had anything more than gnats and that was due to some soil that was left outside the growstore I deal with and was saturated with water. If all you were wanting is better drainage, and you were having good success with the OF, I'd continue using the OF and add 25% extra perlite. That will def. increase aeration in the soil and drainage. Good luck. MGG

Thank you sir sounds like plan. I gues iwas just trying to find something out of the bag to work, but this will also help to stretch my soil to a couple extra pots. And my clones take to the ffof a bit better with high N thats in it. And no burn but ya thanks

My mites were in a different grow room completely remote to where I reside now. And might I add this was years ago back 2010. Ive been on the forums and seen something about cats bringing in thrips and other un wanted pests. I did recently get a cat but hes fully indoor so I dont see that being a possibility. But hes curious and does join me in the garden time to time. So ya thats a new possibilty . since I posted last I have got rid of the thrips, im still waiting for m,ew growth to see if any damage occurs but I think im in the clear . Thank mr. GG for the perlite tip .

I would never allow any pets and no humans that haven't showered and put on fresh, clean clothes into any of my rooms...but that's me...I'm OCD about that shit. MGG

This is a wholly under-rated practice. Just by walking outside we may be bringing all kinds of pathogens and bugs into our spaces, especially on our shoes. So Strain, you may actually be your own worst enemy. The bugs may not be coming from your soils but rather from you. It is usually the simple things that we over look, and that is often where we all have issues with our grows. So start at the simplest solution and move forward from there.

Sunshine #4... Coco??? That mix is entirely peat.

Fox farm outsources their dirt production to Monsanto, my buddies have found weird shit in the mixes, including Gatorade bottle caps, it's garbage. That being said it doesn't surprise me you may have found bugs in the stuff.

I just got dirty bags of ocean forest from the store myself. Dunno what it was tiny aphids or soil mites. Had to knock em with the KO and back to mixing my own.
