Yeah, play with it! And I don’t use trim or popcorn! I use the same shit I would smoke! But you can really ramp up to potency by ramping up the amount of butter that you add into the recipe! And they still bake, OK! And they will last you a lot longer! And obviously the better quality of weed you use to make the butter, the more potent the butter! One of the benefits of growing outdoors! I consider catatonia the ultimate goal!

I have one. My issues with it are , the directions say to use no more than an ounce and from my experience that’s not even enough to get up past the mixer so it splatters while mixing the butter. My next run of butter I’ll be doubling up on all the ingredients. And don’t plan on watching any tv or relaxing while it’s mixing it’s loud and spontaneous lol but other than that I’ve made great butter and coconut oil with it. I would definitely use it more if I could find some clarified butter.

You have to clarify it yourself if it’s that important! Personally, it’s a little too persnickety for me! But good cooks do it all the time! When it’s called for!

I wish eating thc did something to me...
I do make some brownies for my wife. They'll put most others out for a day, but I don't even notice...

I make a normal batch for myself these days - they are amazing even without the thc. I just don't want to waste the thc brownies on me...

My wife decided she wants to do just about everything after wet trimming. She bought a machine. It works well, but it requires use of a lot of buds. I sometimes make a batch using only eight grams of decarboxylated buds and six ounces of 190 proof Everclear. I then reduce it down to two ounces of tincture. My wife had a bad experience with edibles several decades ago, so we only make tinctures now. The processes are similar, though.

So... I've wondered about multiple decarboxylation steps. We use the oven, but I've also pondered whether reducing the tincture with heat would continue the decarboxylation. So far, what we've been doing seems to work quite well. Our tinctures are extremely potent. So, we don't have any complaints about what we've been doing.

Edibles are weird with me. I'll eat a brownie on some occasions and it not do much, and on others it hits hard. I've heard some people don't feel anything when they eat them.

What goes in to making a tincture? I tried making some once by soaking the weed in everclear for a month I think. But I messed up somewhere lol.

Here's our recipe. I don't know if we can post a PDF document, so I pasted it in from a MS Word document. It looks like it's okay. Let me know if you have any questions.

A Two-Infusion Tincture Recipe

Equipment and Supplies

  • 6 ounces of 190 proof Everclear.
  • A scale that measures grams for weighing buds.
  • A measuring cup for the alcohol.
  • 3 - 8- or 16-ounce jars with ring-type canning lids.
  • Cheesecloth.
  • Paper coffee filter.
  • A 200-milliliter beaker. (Recommended)
  • A small crockpot. (Recommended)
  • A culinary temperature probe (like this). (Recommended)
Decarboxylation
  • Grind enough bud to weigh 8 grams after decarboxylation.
  • Decarboxylate it at 240º for 20 to 30 minutes.
First Infusion
  1. Mix the decarboxylated bud with 3 ounces of Everclear in a jar.
  2. Shake it very well for at least 5 minutes. (16-ounce jars mix better.)
  3. Freeze it for a few days, occasionally shaking it.
  4. Strain it through cheese cloth into a second jar.
  5. Tightly seal and freeze the second jar.
Second Infusion
  1. Mix 3 ounces of Everclear with the previously washed bud in the first jar.
  2. Shake it well and freeze it for a few days, occasionally shaking it.
  3. Strain it through a cheese cloth into the second jar that contains the strained first wash.
Fine Strain the Infusion
  1. There should be about 6 ounces of the cheesecloth-strained mixture in the second jar. (There might be some loss while in the freezer.)
  2. Strain it through a coffee filter. Push a coffee filter an inch or two into the third jar and hold it in place with a lid ring or rubber band.
  3. Straining through the coffee filter can take an hour or two, so find an out-of-the-way place to do it.
Reduce the Infusion
  1. Pour the finely strained infusion into a heat-proof container. Use of a 200-milliliter beaker is recommended.
  2. Use a small crockpot with water up to the level of mixture in the beaker.
  3. Reduce it down to 2 fluid ounces (60 milliliters).
  4. Use the temperature probe to set the temperature below the boiling point of alcohol (173º F), or about 160º F. It takes several hours to get to 2 ounces, and it evaporates more rapidly as it gets close, so check it often.
  5. The more the tincture is reduced, the more potent it becomes.
Enjoy Your Tincture
  • Store the tincture in a refrigerator.
  • 2-ounce dropper bottles work well. These are available on Amazon.
Notes
  • Some say longer wash times are better, but we haven't been able to verify it. We've found that even a few hours provide good results. We had some in a wash for several months, and it wasn't noticeably better than a short wash.
  • We use 190 proof Everclear. Others use lower proof or different types of alcohol. We haven't tried the others. I'm pretty sure the higher the proof the better the tincture. So, maybe longer wash times would be better when using lower proof alcohol.

It does depend on what you have eaten before and after. Don't eat anything else 2 hours before and an hour after. Alcohol is fine though and seems to speed up to onset.

Before filtering with coffee filter, wet the filter with pure Everclear to stop the paper absorbing the tincture.
