Nothing dumb about it. You will have near perfect coverage and the light has a dimmer. You can lower it down and dim it down. Or raise it high in the tent and turn it up and heat with it in the winter and you will always have a boss light footprint and full control of your par levels and never work the light hard. I run a HLG 650R in my 3 x 3 and two HLG 350R's in my 2 x 4 bolted together. I can afford the lights and reap the benefits while others freak out,,,,,, .... Thats only a 480w light,,, nothing to it!

Thanks @Blastfact !!! I was feeling a little guilty for spending the money on it given that I have one somewhat successful grow under my belt... I figure if I keep upgrading equipment, sooner or later I will come to the realization that it is ME that is the problem!

Wag finger at yourself and enjoy your grow! I just spent a wad on AC infinity stuff and setting it up right now. From what I've seen and of what I bought it's going to work great! I can remember buying my first HPS light and thought it would never get better than this. Well it has got better than that and I've enjoyed it all.....

Can I ask what you think about that tent setup you have? I stopped growing when I moved back to the midsouth in 2016. My last lights were 1,000w HPS(in California growing for my personal as well as friends so the harvests were much larger than what I am interested in doing here in Memphis/ North Mississippi. I guess I am interested in the light game for personal use, LEDs vs HP's vs CMH? Maybe I need to do somemore research on here. But I definitely am planning on investing in a setup similar to yours. Man I’m running a SE3000 in a 4x4 and have it turned down to 78% lol it’s a awesome light be careful, this was my first run with it and damn she’s got kick keep her at the ceiling and turn her up slow and read the plant, you’ll know when they are happy, you’ll have EXCELLENT coverage wall to wall and light penetration will be great even at max height

Don’t worry about trying to max it out, if 60% is where they are happy let it ride I never run any of my lights at max power

I have the Mars Hydro FCE8000, phlizon FD6500 in the 4x8 , phlizon pl4500 (spare) the Spiderfarmer SE3000 in the 4x4 and a few others I always have great results with overpowered light that I have a huge range of power with so you can give the plants exactly as much power they can take

So I say great call, you’ll love the light and the flexibility

Awesome and thanks for the input! I will admit that I decided to the the "responsible" thing and cancel the order....(I'm a cheap bastard) and unfortunately it had already shipped..... so my new light will be here tomorrow evening! LOL

Yesterday I moved everything that I have growing right now into my "big" tent (the 39x39) and I have the current Mars Hydro FC3000 at 32" from the canopy and the light is set at 30%. Right now I have both clones of the DeathStar (big and little) and then the three "Fortune Cookie X Dosido" freebees that I got from Humboldt. These were the first seeds I ever planted and it has been a complete shit show. They've been dropped, broken, forgotten about, my wifes cat ate them...twice now.... I guess I will see if I stressed them enough to act up. The three of them were up-potted into the 5 gallon fabric pots. The soil is a mix of FFHF and OF.

Here is what the new light will be staring at here in a couple of days! The three got transplanted and the big girl got trimmed up pretty good today, so they are all a little droopy. Hopefully they all perk back up in the morning!

Bar style lights are designed to be about the same size as the tent they're made for during the flower period.
Bar lights have gaps so that's why they should be almost the same size as the tent, yes within inches.
Board lights have less gaps and coverage is a little more because of this so they tend to be a smaller then Bar lights advertised for the same size tent, at the cost of higher heat though compared to Bar lights.

I run a light that measures 46"x22" in a 4x2 and another light that measures 33"x16" in a 3x2.

Nope that is exactly what you want to do. Spread an even light across the entire canopy.

The coverage will be great. At 48ish watts/ft², it's more light than you'll need if you're hand-watering soil with ambient CO2. If you switch to hydro and supplement CO2, you'll have enough power to take advantage of the additional light appetite.

I don't drive around with my foot on the floor in my car all the time and as much as I would like to be WOT on my motorcycles everytime I ride them I'm not. Nor do I run my lights at 100% or any of my fans. I've ridden a 250cc motorcycle coast to coast round trip once guess that makes the Goldwing a waste of money and to much motorcycle. I can kill a deer with a .22 LR so a .308 Win must be overkill?

Tons of great advice up in here, i robins you’ll love the light, like I said above the light spread will be excellent. You’ll have all the power you’ll ever need in that size tent, hell if you took it out of the at tent mounted it to the ceiling and cranked her up you could probably flower a 7x7 area and still have nice solid colas. All the lights and diodes I’ve ran, these LM301H’s really do blow the rest out of the park in performance to watt at least for our use

But again, keep that power turned down, let the plants acclimate to it, then slowly increase power u til you notice droop or the leaves resisting to lift before the lights turn on for the day, if they are still relaxing back at lights on they had too much the day before and they are hiding from it. If tuned in you should see the leaves horizontal to the light or slightly pointed up BEFORE lights on time. If you get to the point where they start to droop back and are still dropped when the lights come on, back down power 5-10% wait 4-5 days then bring it back up 2-3% at a time, the new controllers on these lights are super user friendly with a 0-100 display with 1% increment adjustments nothing like my other lights they jump 40-50w at a time when you turn it up or down

If you need evidence I have some time lapse video of the first grow with this SE3000 and I was good at 80% I cranked to 100% around day 20 of flower and then ended up sick and didn’t have much time to monitor them, they went cal def and upper canopy level of leaves burnt a bit (you can see in my pics above)

In my time lapse you can actually see the droop pre-light like I said then you can watch the burn ad cal def progress through the video

Actually here ya go, this is one week of progression beginning right when I cranked the light to 100% (at about 30”)

Watch the leaves right from the beginning, leaf wants to lift but tip of the leaves are shying away, then if you watch the leaves closest to the camera twords the bottom of the Fran you can watch the progression of the leaf die off, the under canopy was flawless and still is now that I backed the light off and removed the worst leaves since I into week 7 now
