Someone in another thread mentioned that if you feed relatively lower nutrient levels throughout the grow you get less of the ‘green’ hay smell at the end. Can you guys confirm this? I feed at 1.8EC through except for a 7 day flush at the end. If I changed to say 1.4EC, would I get less green smell? I do dry very slowly (14 days) and trim dry so I don’t think that’s the cause of the problem.

Have to read the plants to know how much to feed but a good general rule for weed is to keep the ec between 1.0 and 1.5. Just cause a plant can take nore doesnt mean it needs more.

And consistant 1.8 would fry my diesel and thai hybrids. I grow them usually at 1.2 and taper off during ripening.

It's a little more complex. That has more to do with drying time but having a huge amount of chlorophyll at the end means you need to be on point with your drying. Sounds like you may need to slow your drying time down. Should take about 7-14 days. Cooler temps and humidity closer to 60% will do this. I like mid to low 60s and humidity about 55% get me usually about 10-12 days depending on bud size.

Yeah I generally don't feed more than 1.2 but I have.

I dont think it has anything to do with chlorophyll. You can smoke a 5 day dried bud out of my closet and get excellent smoothness and flavor.

I think nutrient levels are key. I have never had a burned or deficient plant come out better than a nice healthy medium green one to the end.

The moisture in the buds causes black ash and harshness. We dont really cure weed. Just dry it like any herb.

That’s the thing - I’m drying really slowly -16 days this time. That’s why I’m wondering if the increased EC could be making the bud taste more of chlorophyll - would that make sense?

EDIT - sorry I didn’t see your post mimedgrower - perfect!! I think you have answered my problem of many years, thanks so so much. Have to go to sleep now (it’s 2.30am here), but will get back. Thanks again.

I hear what your saying I attribute the high chlorophyll to high nutrient content. Same kinda thing.

What strain are you growing that produces 3.5 oz per sqft? I've never seen anyone even come close. If I get 1.5 oz/sqft, I consider that a bumper crop.
