Thanks man on advice I think I'm gonna do like you said . This is the first time i used ff myself I have auto I put straight in 3 gal pot nd water till I got 10% run off and it as help it moisture real well now for a week and still pretty heavy so haven't watered again yet.
Personally I feel it's best to wait for the plant to fill it's current container with roots before up potting like
@growsince79 said. It makes watering much easier and I feel like you will have a much denser root system in the end. You will know when to up pot because you will have to water very often just to keep the soil moist.
A good example the pot is to big is exactly what you described water and a week later the pot is still heavy.
I'm brand new to soil but not plants and imo if you have good drainage and have to water every 2 days (rough guide) or so your in the right container. This is not a hard rule but a simple guideline. Obviously your last transplant before flower will need to allow for growth for at least the next 2 months so you may only water every 4 or so days.
Drainage is key.
