So, sorry to bother you all but there is this problem and its turning what was expected to be a marvelous harvest into a subpar one. There have been similar problems in the past but things had been going better recently.
The basics:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones?
Growing from clones
2. How old are your plants?
1. Out of the cloner into 4x4 pots on or around 10/12/10: 194 days ago
2. Out of 4x4's into 1 gallon pots on or around 10/29/11: 177 days ago
3. Out of 1 gallons into 5 gallons on or around 12/11/10: 134 days ago
4. Begin final veg stage on around 12/15/10: 130 days ago
5. Begin 12/12 flower cycle on 2/19/11: 64 days ago
3. How tall are your plants?
From the soil level the plants are about 4 feet tall. Consider that the lighting is bare vertical bulbs so a more columnar pattern is desired.
4. What type of hydro system are you using?
Its a drain to waste coco-coir system, using 60% canna coco coir and 40% "coco planting chips"- basically 1/2" square chunks of coco husk.
5. What brand/type of nutrients are you using?
Canna coco line. Recipe for 55 gallon tank as follows: 10oz A and B, 4oz Protekt, 6oz PK13/14, 8oz Boost, 3oz Amino acids.
6. What is the Ph of your nutrient solution?
It is pH'd to 5.6 2 or 3 times a day, though it tends to drift up between 5.6 and 6.4
7. What is the PPM/EC of your tap water?
Tap is well water heavy in calcium with a ph of 7.2 and 130ppm. The water for mixing is 90% RO and 10% tap, beginning at about 7.0 and 70ppm.
8. What is the PPM/EC of your nutrient solution?
Approximately 540ppm
9. What is the temperature of your nutrient solution?
As this is a DTW nute temp isn't as important, but 60-65*F.
10. Does your PPM/EC show a rise or fall when you do your daily PPM check?
Not applicable
11. Does your pH show a rise or fall when you do your daily check?
Also not applicable, it rises though not because of plant feeding but because of water chemistry
12. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything?
Due to super mites and a desire to not spray avid etc they are sprayed with a rotaion of natual products (3 neem products, pyganic, sucrashield, botaniguard, and orange guard) every 3 days though out veg and about 30 days into flower. If anyone has suggestions on getting of that treadmill (besides AVID! etc) please speak up! These plants have also been sprayed a few times with a solution of 1 tsp per gallon of epsom salts as there are recurring mg deficiency problems.
13. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights")
The room is running at 57w/ft2, 55% HPS and 45% MH. All bulbs are 1k.
14. How close are your lights to the plants?
The plants are on 4.3 foot centers, so the bulbs are 2.1 feet from the stalks and maybe 10" from the closest branches. (Again remember vert bare bulbs allows foliage to be much closer before getting burned)
15. What size is your grow space in square feet?
18 ft2 per plant.
16. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space?
Temps running about 72 night 78 day, rh 55 night 45 day
17. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space?
Haven't seen any mites since this room went into flower, no evidence of fungus gnats or phyloxera. Don't believe insects to be cause of problem.
18. How much experience do you have growing?
Enough that this diagnosis should be easy.
The foliage is turgid, this is not an under watering or root damage issue. It definitely seems to be effecting the lower older leaves first. The plan is to let the room run another 10 days or so, hopefully resolving and getting some growth in the next 5 before beginning a 5 day flush. Perhaps a foliar flower spray, maybe combined with mg should be applied. Any suggestions appreciated, see attached pictures.
