some really nice camping up Highway 2 direction, bunch of fun spots on the river from Gold Bar on up.

You visiting family up here or just out exploring?

I'm on the east side down by Duvall....east Redmond.

Hope you enjoy your Washington visit.:)

Hey Danks, nice pic of a serious lady bug gathering...:)

So I have a question for you. Have you actually observed a lady bug ever eat a spider mite?

The reason I ask is because after years and years of reading that lady bugs eat spider mites, I know for a FACT of first hand experience that they do not.

Last summer I had a big project that included a large old barn on the property. In the barn was a huge amount of lady bugs.

As the weather got warmer, you could lift up a board and they were just crawling in mass around the area, I mean hundreds of thousands of the little round bugs.

A friend of ours had a plant that was infected with spider mites to the point that he culled it from his room and put it outside.

Since there was nothing else in the barn at the time, we decided to put it in with the lady bugs to watch the festivities.

I am here to tell you that I watched a flock of a hundred lady bugs walk right across the leaves infected with mites and no lady bug ate any spider mite.

We even were watching them under a scope that we had hooked to the TV so we could watch the "slaughter". It just never occurred.

The lady bugs are so much bigger than the spider mites that I watched them walk right over the top of them again and again and not a one ever stopped to even bother with the tiny mites.

I have read for years that supposedly the lady bugs eat spider mites, but I'm here to tell you that they absolutely do not.

Just wondering if anyone else has experimented with this and could say with authority that they have actually observed a lady bug eat a spider mite.

Carry on.

Interesting observation Effendi! Awhile back my house was the lady bug highway and every summer my house would literally be covered with what seemed like millions of lady bugs!

Now about the observation, here is my take on this.

I've never had a spider mite problem out doors, because they love dry warm places and the outdoors just plain fucks them up in my observation. If SM are an indoor problem, ladybugs wouldn't likely encounter them often in the wild, so never evolved with them in their diet. Idk who told you they eat spider mites but what they go after are juicy aphids.

If you have a spider mite problem indoors my solution and what worked for me, was take the plant outdoors for as long as possible (over night, or over a couple nights is the best since they wont like the cold), constantly misting water, or a water/soap or even better a water/habanero mixture , on both sides of the leaves. after a couple days they should be a lot better and you should have cleaned your indoor problem by then (misting all your walls and shit with habanero water). If you cant take them outdoors still go for the constant misting. This is all for veg stage, I wouldn't trust spraying soapy or habanero water on my buds.

lol....Lots and lots of people who repeat what they hear, lots and lots of articles that spread false information. Lots and lots of products with the name "Lady bug" in them that suggest they would be a natural predator for spider mites. It is a VERY COMMON misnomer that lady bugs actually eat mites and I since you posted a picture of lady bugs on your ladies, I was curious as to your take.

I do appreciate your factual response and your advice on mite control.

They are not a problem for me as I have a zero tolerance policy and go nuclear with no guilt on the regular as a preventive measure in my third week of veg like clockwork. I used to play with old wives tales like habernero and crysanthemum and neem but choose not to dance with the devil.

Predators (although effective for some) are really a joke and hit or miss. last century, I used to use Avid, and floramite as a preventative but even those have their effective windows. (Adults versus larvae eradication)

Now I only use Forbid4F and I only have to ever use it one time in early veg and there is no chance of negative repercussion down the road.

In regards to defoliation. I have a different opinion on that issue. There is never a problem defoliating anything at anytime in Veg up until two weeks from the flip. There should be no defoliating in flower until the last two weeks during the flush. I have found that total defoliation at that time is a very effective method of allowing light to the very core of the plant and there are no small light discolored popcorn on the day of harvest.

Just what my experience has taught me.

Enjoy the day .:)

It is indeed beautiful out! Yea it is insane how misinformation can spread like wildfire.
On the defoliation issue, whatever works with the growers set up, methods, and strains are dandy. Defoliation is a big debate in my world (it seems, haha). I like to think I have a feel for a plant when I am giving them a lot of my time, and my plants scream at me to not clip off there perfectly healthy solar panels they worked so hard to create, ESPECIALLY those fat fan leaves that provide energy to your main stalks. To each their own. Just don't invite me over when your defoliating, unless you like ruffled feathers all over your grow room.

At harvest, if there were small discolored popcorn (not ready?) I would chop off pretty much the top half of the plant that is ready and leave that small popcorn for a while longer to mature.

Also, I'm trying to stay as organic as possible so any chemical substances are not allowed.

Have a great day as well!

Anyone believe there are greenthumbs in spokane? All I have seen out here is embarrassingly bad quality that I wouldn't be able to sell at any price in California. I'm talking indoor that is so leafy and stemmy it makes average outdoor look amazing. Kind of disappointed that even since 502 passed, everyone on craigslist still wants you to have a state med card.

Looking at old WA posts... Spokane's got many green thumbs. You just aren't in the right circles I'm guessing. Been to Cali, been to Coli, Seattle multiple times. Spokane's as good easily..... I remember in the 90's Pantera would always come to Spokane multiple times a year. One time we were able to talk to em outside their bus at the convention center and the first topic was Washington weed. They toured the world...They all agreed one thing about Spokane, the weed was better than anywhere. Now times have changed, you have tons of med card holders trying to flood the market with mids, but the old strains and growers are still thick over here. You just gotta know where to look... Just a little somethin for you Spokane Haters.... Not trying to start shit, just representing.
And on the Med-Card deal. It's still completely illegal to buy from anyone without a med card unless you buy at a recreational pot shop.

Thanks man.. The strains shown are BCBD "Purps", Roc's "Grape Romulan", "Blue Dream" clone, and Higher Solutions "Ultimate Fighter". I've got so many strains right now it's fuckin ridiculous. My problem is it's too hard to let any go. All keepers in my book. And I messed around and got 8 new seed packs on the way. I guess it's a good problem to have.
