Im looking to purchase a H2O chillers for the UC12XL and the UC12XL13 Whats the better brand of chillers on the market? Ive been looking at the ActiveAqua unleaves 1/2 HP, Sunleaves AquaChill 1/2HP, EcoPlus 1/2Hp, and the Hydro Innovations Chill King.
I want to run both UC off of one chiller with the the CoolCoil if possible? Should I go to the 1HP? I have no issues with keeping my rooms cool with central AC .

I won't claim to be an expert on chillers, however I did just setup my 2hp chillking and built my manifold for the cool coils, so I might be of some help. I have 2 x 32dbxl and 1 x 16dbxl (3 coils, one for each). It's super easy to build the manifold for as many coils/iceboxes etc as you feel you can confidently run with your chiller size. I would think a 1hp chiller should do the trick for what you need, but I'll let someone who knows a bit more about it verify that :). I have to say, I'm not entirely sure what a cool coils capacity even is, in terms of how many gallons at can chill 10 degrees below ambient temp. If anyone knows specifics on that I'd be curious.

If this helps a all...The 55g res that HI sent with my chillking, when filled halfway, can drop 5 degrees when it kicks on in just a few minutes. Good luck

I am chilling 208 gals throughout a 16 site 13 Gal uc system with a 1/4 hp chiller. room temps 80. buckets and pipes are insulated.

No idea if this is ideal but it seems to work fine.

edit: 220 Gals, forgot the epicenter

Interesting. You're using 1 coolcoil? What do you set your resistat to? What temperature do you keep your chiller res/chiller setting at? My 32 is cooled fine by the coil to 68 degrees with the resistat and the chiller res is at 52. I wonder how many gallons one coil can cool if it has approx 50-55 degree water going trough it?? Anyone?

Edit: also how big is your chiller res, and how often does it need to kick on to keep your res at your temp setting?

I chill 400 gallons with my 1 hp chiller and coils. I have 50gal chiller res and 2 50 foot ss coils, one in each UC and I also run a large rad from the same source to cool the room. In summer my temps run around 69 to70 in the uc's and in fall and winter they run at 62. My room temp is 83 with lights on.

To answer a recurring question above; people keep asking how much water a chiller can cool, but this is missing the point. A chiller can cool a given heat load, however many gallons of water it might take to get there. 1/4hp may well be fine if everything is very well insulated- because the insulation reduces the heat load to nearly insignificant levels.

The confusion about chilling large spaces arises from the fact that now the cooling load is large and the amount of water being cooled is both negligible- and irrelevant. Therefore, cooling spaces with a chiller means that both a larger size is needed, AND a water heat transfer system needs to be installed.

Your coils are in the epicenter above the air diffuser, correct?

yup just sitting on top, been like that for 2 years and I did get them from NY Brewing supply. IMHO 25 foot is all you need, I have a 9 pod 13 gal system and cut the 50 footer in half.
