If the buds got too large. I wet trim it all and put it on screens. To make sure there isn't any big rotten buds. Depends on the way the plants built.

I usually chop and hang the entire plant if I'm growing indoors and by the arms, like TSD, if it's outdoor. Outdoor colas tend to get bigger and fatter so pulling them off the main stem will speed drying.

I pull all the big fan leaves off and hang the whole plants leaving the small leaves intact. Using rockwool I'd ideally even leave the roots intact.

Voted other I cut it by branch and clean off any big fans and leaves I can get to without to much disturbance. Hang to dry.

When the leaves that are left on the bud are crispy to the touch but the stems and bud are still damp usually about 10 days in winter 6 days in summer for me in Southern ontario.

I then final trim as I cut the buds away from the stems and put the buds into a brown paper bag that's waxy if that makes sense like an biodegradable brown paper bag or compostable!

Shuffle bag around for another 4-6 days right as the buds start to lose there sweet smell I jar them, find if I let dry into that weird skunks fresh cut grass I lose all the nice smell oand taste (over dry) burp once every day or more if needed but once at least for 7 days then once a wwek around there

Giving me visions of Trudeau talking moistly...

First 12-24 hrs or so keep real good air circulation and temps of about 70F and RH around 50%. After a day or so you can go to 65f 55RH, by day 3 lock it in at 60f/60rh for a couple weeks. By the time the stems snap you can remove the buds from the branches and trim them up. Once trimed, give them about another week on drying racks in the same environment at 60/60 or even a little colder. Keep rh at 60-63 at that point.
Then bag it, it's done.

I've done all of them. The only one I try not to waste my time with is cutting off buds and putting them in those hanging basket dryers. There would have to be a good reason to bother with that bullshit again.

Hey ya’ll.
literally just did this yesterday to 6 plants. Took about 2 1/2 hours to trim all the leaves down, my least favorite part of the growing process. But no labour is wasted provided we get them juicy sweet nuggets.
be well and grow on!

For those of you who chop with fan leaves taken off - do you directly feel it makes the drying process faster this way?

It definitely does, that's why mine come off. It's usually quite wet here in fall, so I want to reduce chances mold setting up shop after the chop. The one time I hung a whole plant, I lost half to mold... I did give it a dunk first so it was EXTRA wet... but I still did my usual dry with a fan after washing. Either way, I think the decision on how to harvest should take your climate into account. If it's more dry where you are, leaving the fans on could be beneficial to slow down the dry.

I have got one of the best drying systems out there in my opinion. I grow scrog so I like to cut my scrog screen then cut plants into smaller sections to go on my driflower racks. I remove all big fan leaves as I’m hanging. Then let hang for 12-14 days in a environmentally controlled room. The drying rack is from Driflower solutions and the J hooks are the best hands down. Made in Oregon USA. I have fit 7 outdoor plants on 1 of the 3 racks it comes with. So easy and efficient

Here is the 7 outdoor plants on the rack. You can see we didn’t take as many fan leaves off the outdoor as I do my indoor. Mainly because they were getting dried in a not so controlled environment.

I chose "Other". I cut off fan leaves, then I pull the plant up by the roots (Indoor gro), then hang upside down for 24 hrs., I then cut it down by branches, wet trim and then hang to dry. After drying I generally have to due some minor cleanup trimming if the buds did not tighten up or I didn't trim close enough.

No data on time. it’s all about fear of increased moisture and great of mold

I give a rough trim, let it dry in the pot and when the bud moisture content is 10-15%, jar them up.
