Rockwool, hydroponics? As I look for seeds and plan my first grow, I find myself riddled with info that contradicts the other. Am I OVER THINKING IT? Since roots are the basis for Future growth in anything, not just medical weed, what do you all think is the best way to achieve a root bonanza.

To much to go over but what are your goals? Harvest, timelines.

How much time in a day do you have to spend?

What kind of environment do you have where you plan to grow?

What kind of grow space? Tent, room etc.

What kind of budget do you have?

The BEST is what will suit your knowledge, environment, budget and time dedication.

OOkay. Let me unpack that.

1. Harvest time line? I haven't bought the seeds, but from what I've been able to glean, the time from seed to harvest it should be 9 to 11 weeks for photoperiod seeds I've seen. I'm looking at an indoor grow. Though considered both. Like using the California sun while i have it and then taking the plant inside for more light. Unless someone talks me out of it.

2. How much time a day do I have? Once or twice a day I think. i have a back yard garden I care for and that is once a day everyday already, so what's one more. Or four.

3. What kind of environment do I have for my grow? I have my house and central air. it's California so, it's about to get really hot here in a minute.

4. what kind of grow space? I have a grow tent that is 3x3x6 and space outdoors.

5. What kind of budget? Not wealthy. So..... But I'm highly resourceful. I think I can get everything I need this month. Assuming you don't give me more things I need. The one thing you never plan for, is a"Canadian shopping list." he he

Plants grow best in a loose growing medium that allows the roots to easily penetrate it. Having too much nutrients or water will cause the plant to not grow as robust of a root system. I use Promix and have roots coming out the bottom of 5 gallon buckets a month after the seed germinates. To some degree, the roots will search for nutrients and water, but if it is already abundant, it doesn't seem to grow roots as quickly. Keep the Ph from swinging too much and monitor your feeding and watering... the idea is to give enough to support good growth but not too much that it creates unfavorable conditions for the roots to grow.
This is just my opinion on things. The roots are VERY important for a healthy plant, so make sure they get plenty of O2 and not waterlogged... and you should be good to go.

Promix is mostly Canadian peat moss and vermiculite and has no real nutrients in it. It drains very well and leaves you in charge of adding nutes to your desires. Fox Farms stuff is usually pre charged with fertilizers, so you don't have to worry about nutes as much... but you also don't have the control over them either. For a newer grower, I think it is probably a little easier as long as you don't start adding additional fertilizers until they are actually needed. High levels of nutes can cause issues later on after they accumulate and interact. If using Fox Farms, I would add some perlite to it in order to improve it's drainage. Good Luck!!

That’s great advice. One quick question. I heard that during Germination and maybe the first week of the plants life, it’s not a good idea to feed it? Is this right? Can nutrients to early Cause to weaken the plant?

Hey bud I agree with @Jimster promix is a pretty easy media to grow with.

Seeds carry enough nutrients for germination about the first week of growth after that the need very small amounts up til they get bigger.

Your first grow will be all about learning and if ya make to harvest and have something to smoke that's great. Learning to water properly will be the biggest thing.

I'm generally a hydro guy and doing my first soil grow. And it's quite a bit slower for me but pretty easy imo. The better the drainage the faster the growth but that's not always a good thing. The faster the growth usually the more challenging. That's not to say you don't want good drainage because you do... I'm referring to the media like soil, coco, hydro

Also the 9-10weeks for photoperiods is the flower time only this does not include veg time.
