Question- I'm running an auto at 20/4 about 5 weeks into flower. I recently got a new light that keeps it a little warmer than I want in the tent. My question is does the 20 on need to be continuous? Can I do 10 on 2 off and repeat to give it a break for the temp to drop? The same question for photos on 18/6. Does the light need to be constant or can I break it up 9 on 3 off etc?

Thanks.

Try 9/3 or 6/2 with autos if you need to regulate heat. 10/2 sounds fun too!

I started running all my veg photos at 9/3 after experimenting with autos and never ran a straight 18 hrs again.

You'd run your whole auto grow at 6/2?

For vegging photos or autos I stuck with 9/3. My current run is 18/6 but that's because I need the 6 hour long dark to offset high daytime temps. If that wasn't the case I prefer the 9/3 yeah.

This is only my opinion and based on anecdotal evidence but I think that double the amount of light/dark cycles also doubles up the circadian rhythms of the plant leading to increased vigor.

Yeah and the shitty thing is there's absolutely zero study on it. No science whatsoever and that's really disappointing.

So I wind up sounding like a bro science guy lol

Yeah. I suppose it all starts with someone and that someone could be you.
Document your results/findings and keep putting it out there.

I have documented it plenty!!! This was my first auto ever grown. I did it 9/3 under a $59 Amazon light. Front to back one of the best plants I've ever grown for the effort.

Thread 'Mephisto Canna Cheese first time auto grow.' https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/mephisto-canna-cheese-first-time-auto-grow.120685/

Edit: The light was upgraded mid way through the grow!

I did just read the whole thing and it's quite impressive the results you got considering your alternative light cycle and limited space and the particular light that you used.

Genetics has a lot to do with quality too so if you're going to do autos go with Mephisto.
