It was my biggest disappointmentnorthern lights is on my list of strains I want to grow.
They bred that right out thanks to the war on drugs. Wish you luckYes or it’s skunky and berries or some shit. Need straight road kill
Hope they pop for you man, I know there are methods for popping older seeds,.. might want to look into it before you try cuz you only get one shot!Found some seeds from 1988 labeled skunky in a tape machine.

I’d have to agree. And it's pure shit...nothing you would ever want to grow unless you like bunk sweet shit
I took a shot. I have one of those flowering outside right now. It smells pretty strong so far. I mixed a bunch of elemental sulfer in with the soil before planting. I read somewhere on here that it helps with the skunk smell. Pistils are white with pink tips. Most of the fan leaves are turning yellow. Buds are plumping up good. Southern Ohio. And it's pure shit...nothing you would ever want to grow unless you like bunk sweet shit
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add my perspective. I grew up in the ’70s and ’80s, and I can say without question that the Skunk available back then simply doesn’t exist on the market today. On our farm, we’ve grown nearly every modern Skunk variety—including Skunk #1—and none of them come close to the old-school Skunk. It often feels like the name “Skunk” is being used as more of a marketing label than a true reflection of the genetics. It’s widely acknowledged in the industry that the original Skunk was so pungent and unmistakable that breeding was eventually discontinued, largely because of how illegal and risky it was at the time. As newer strains took over, the original genetics were gradually lost.I have been searching for the old skunk that I smoked in the 90's that smelled like an actual skunk it was so good but I can't find it anywhere I have grown super skunk and other skunk strains but so far not even close to that old skunk strain. I just got a cut of #1 skunk and I'm hopeful this is it but I doubt it. has anybody found the real skunk strain that stinks so good?
When I lived in Ocean Beach, circa 84', that shit was so pungent. Never heard of it until then.I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add my perspective. To bring it back, breeders would likely need to start from scratch and work together to attempt to recreate that legendary classic.
Hey buddyI have been searching for the old skunk that I smoked in the 90's that smelled like an actual skunk it was so good but I can't find it anywhere I have grown super skunk and other skunk strains but so far not even close to that old skunk strain. Truth is, as a professional perfumer I can tell you the olefactory context has a rapid shift even on a collective level when it comes to things like "classic" smells. Road kill skunk was a pheno and was a term given to many bags back in the day if it was loud and stinky like a skunk. It is what people associated to the smell when they had nothing else to compare it too, and there wasnt much other loud herb on the market. I am confident to say that today there is plenty of herb that would match the description as "road kill skunk" in the 90s if transported back to that time and how people thought and associated smells. but now days most people's noses don't associate such a smell to skunk because they have way more associations. You put GMO in the 90s, people would call it skunk. Black domina was skunk. So to find the actual Road Kill Skunk pheno, would be a very difficult thing to find nowadays, because there is no real way to lock down what people were really smelling in the 90s. And the whole idea it was discontinued to grow because of legality and smell; Sorry just if that was the cases, the Chem line, diesels ect would have been canceled also because they were not an easy smell to hide. A very elusive pheno and topic discussion.I have been searching for the old skunk that I smoked in the 90's that smelled like an actual skunk it was so good but I can't find it anywhere I have grown super skunk and other skunk strains but so far not even close to that old skunk strain. I can tell you that what I was smelling in the 90s was virtually indistinguishable from what skunk spray or skunk roadkill smells like….it wasn’t skunk and fruit or gas and skunk…it was straight skunk…I’ve smoked and grown plenty of skunky strains, but again, that pure skunk smell I, like others haven’t experienced since.Truth is, as a professional perfumer I can tell you the olefactory context has a rapid shift even on a collective level when it comes to things like "classic" smells. My LSD Nirvana ... Is Mazari Sharif and Skunk #1 is pretty skunky this year . Reminds me ALot of that undertone when my dog got a face full .I have been searching for the old skunk that I smoked in the 90's that smelled like an actual skunk it was so good but I can't find it anywhere I have grown super skunk and other skunk strains but so far not even close to that old skunk strain. Old school skunk growers hung their bud for a couple weeks didn't use boveda or worry about it getting too dry.
That really dry weed hit good, is that not a factor too?
I more like that, give me some crisp dry bud over this 60% whatever stuff lol, especially if I'm buying the stuff lolFunny you say that , so true , My LSD ... Was like that ... Was the last plant I had to get to so she hung for a while .... And my storage skills at that point was ... Lazy , Made her smell the best and skunky for a really long time . Found an old tray of buds I left laying out ... Dry as hell but was still really stinky
Word, good insight I’m growing some 79 skunk x sour d from katsu seeds that I crossed with uncirculated OG and it’s not skunks AT ALLTruth is, as a professional perfumer I can tell you the olefactory context has a rapid shift even on a collective level when it comes to things like "classic" smells.
