That cover :cool:WooHoo! New (to me) Porn Mag:bookworm:. I've read half of it so far and most of it is already covered in his book in fact, some of the content is pretty old as he has already changed it in his book 2nd edition. It is still a good read.
Week 5 of flower, TLO -The Rev style update:
Things are still going pretty well but the afghanis are showing some tacoing on the top leaves. Those two plants are the only ones showing this. From everything I have read, this is most likely from heat stress, They are the tallest and most aggressive and pretty close to the light. My temps are 70f lights-off and 80f lights-on with 50% rh. The canopy temps get as high as 86f using an infrared thermometer. I did lower the strength of the fans (turned the new one off and lowered the other to medium) and I thought about removing the led light to lower the temps a couple degrees but it really seems to help out the light intensity in the corners so I left it on for now. I still might- maybe after this next week. Less light the last couple weeks could imitate nature especially with only the redder spectrum of HPS running, so I have read. I can't do much else about it, I could probably squeak out 3 more inches but it would take some work and I would have to remove the plants from the tent which could cause damage so, I am letting them ride.
I'll be making the Rev's Finishing Tea this evening to give to them tomorrow evening .
Yes, I used 2 nitrogen spikes and 2 flowering spikes per container plus all the layers. I set myself up a little production line when building the containers.
Nice. Yeah, I was debating the layers (in addition to the spikes), as it just seemed like overkill. But who am I to judge! Looks like it's going great for you.
So did you build the layered and spiked containers and up-pot at the same time you switched to flower? Also, did you add flowering spikes at same time? I can't remember if he recommended doing all at once, or waiting for a few weeks in to flower to add the flower spikes.
Thanks! I'm about to mix up my soil in preparation for a grow starting in about 6 weeks.
Thanks Perception and Minitiger
Perception, no I think I built the final container around week 6 of veg and went the full 8 weeks veg. It was time for it's second transplant. This made it difficult to figure out which ones were female/male as not all of them were showing sex and I didn't want to waste soil, or time, or softpots, or space in the tent. I only had so much soil ready to go. I did ultimately build containers for some males that I pulled only a couple weeks later. Both batches of his soil I have made, I multiplied all his amounts by 1.5 because that would start with 1 full bag of ffof (1.5 cu.ft.). However I did start my container building with a possible male just in case I made mistakes which I did. There were a couple "oh shit, I forgot the top layer, or the mycorrhizae" moments but, by the end, I had it down- and I was running out of soil quick.
Also, don't use any Manure in his soil mix or his layers. He has them listed in his recipes but later on in the book he says he no longer uses them because of fungus gnats. Luckily for me, I couldn't find any for my first batch because everywhere I went they said it was still frozen outside -then afterwards I saw where he says he no longer uses it (imo, he should have fixed this in his recipes but I ain't bitchin ). I used his soil straight for the first two container sizes and put a little mulch on top only.
Yes, you want to add the spikes near the outside of the container during transplant so you don't stab the freshly transplanted roots.
Week 6 of flower, TLO -The Rev style update:
Things are still going pretty well but the Kush/nanner problem has me worried sick. I have plucked at least 20 of them off of her. I have been reading everything I can find about it and it seems to be a split decision about plucking or chopping. Tonight I am going to remove her from the tent and go over every square inch of her and depending on what I see, I may chop. I don't want to end up pollinating the others. I hope its not too late already. ugh!:sweating:
What do you think? Any opinions of hermie/nanners at this stage?
Todays picture day 42:
Thanks Minitiger,
I just got done trimming her/it up. Oh well, I pretty much came to that decision this morning and when I looked one more time at lights-on, her/it's fate was sealed. Thanks for confirming. I haven't seen any of the other girls pollinated or weird looking yet. I gave the area of the plants that surrounded it a spray mist of H20 in case.
As soon as this grow is over I will make sure I have no light leaks. I never even checked. I am such a noob! Are pin holes that big of a problem? -whats the easiest way to seal them in a tent, tape? I thought about running the light during the day but I feel that I will worry too much being at work with the light on.
It's been fairly hot and humid here lately but I am in Maine so, it is not even in the same realm of heat as you. I don't even have AC lol (ok, thats a lie. I have a window unit in the bedroom).
..and you make sense to me. I am feeling pretty good myself :)
