I'm new to this so perhaps people have their reasons (apart from breeding) but I see a lot of people posting asking if X plant is male or not and if it is they obviously have to destroy it before it pollinates and creates buds with seeds. But literally every seedbank offers feminized seeds so why not use them? It seems like a waste of time and energy to grow a plant for 4-6 weeks or whatever to then just destroy it. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Fem seeds give you seedy bud. Regs give you better genetics to clone from.

Breeding and price point.
my last seed order was two years ago and the average price per seed was around 3 dollars.
I haven’t ordered in that long because I have bred a large growing stock of seeds. Grow your own to become self sufficent from the dispensary and the seed bank.

Some ideas:

1) Some strains aren't available feminized. That's what got me to run my first regs.
2) Every feminized seed has a forced herm for a parent. Many growers believe that makes the offspring less stable with regard to herming.
3) Regs are cheaper, on average.
4) Some people like to do their own breeding projects and don't want to deal with reversing.
5) Some growers run mostly from clones, so the cost, in time or money, of determining sex might be incurred only in their initial run of a variety.
6) For a price (~$10/plant), we can determine sex early in the lifecycle, via tissue testing. Not for everyone, obviously.

Why Grow Fem Seeds when you can just get a cut and not waste time germinating. I mean if Time is your concern. I like Regular seeds because i can find a Diamond cut that nobody else has. I pop 5 fem seeds I get pretty much the same thing. I pop 5 regular seeds I get more variations. Depends on what you are looking for. Something new or something already out and popular.

Ive only a few years under my belt but in my tent regs give you much more vigorous growth and quality, the best genetics are available are in the form of reg seeds imo.

I'll buy fems if I think in getting real DJ Short Blueberry. Or maybe some weird Dr.Grinspoon or something rare. But they're always a bit messed up. Seeds. Ones a mutant. Etc.

there some false stuff in here. fems dont necessarily herm more. perhaps if you run s1 of cuts or varieties that had a lot of herms/nanners in their parent siblings you would find a lot of issues in that s1 population. statistically i have had more issues in this department with regs than fems. ymmv, but it shouldn't by a lot. if it does, that is on you.

regs can provide more variability (and uncertainty) and are intact genetically. both good reasons to grow.

i have fems produce top knotch keepers with ironclad hormonal stability. there are no hard and fast rules.
