Using the apogee MQ-610 with an ePAR sensor we can see par outputs at various locations on the canopy. As we move from the top down we can quickly see how PAR levels drop leading to larfy buds and less density because they are receiving less light. This highlights the importance of using various training techniques to keep your canopy even and maximum yields.
Locations lowest on the plant receive the least light, that is why we usually defoliate the lower 1/3rd of our autos leading up to flower so the plant can focus its resources on the top colas instead of larfy pop corn buds where the plant receives the lowest amount of light.
These two have received very little training other than leaf tucking, the bottom 1/3rd will be trimmed up this week as they quickly move into flower!

My biggest issue is keeping an even canopy with different strains. Netting helps keep the faster growing plants at an even level with the slower growth ones. Currently my Stardawgs which are heavier on the Sativa side are outpacing the Blueberry Widow and the net helps keep things more even to prepare for flower. Probably need one more net for support after stretch but still have a bit of space filling before that starts!
Hardest part about my grows and even canopies is how to get to the plants after a net has been set up.
Having rear-access to a tent is a requirement now for my wife and I in our grows. Once we get the net down and start tucking, getting into the middle of tent or back without rear-access is nearly impossible, leading to the middle of the tent or back of the tent getting extremely overgrown or just out of control.
The other option is sending the 5'1 wife in there to crawl under the net and try to sit in the middle of the plants and work from there. The work isn't fun and I can't blame her for not wanting to get in there and do it, especially now that the temps are dropping and the tent floors are like 50 degrees.

Another reason I prefer a taller tent. I can bring them up a bit during veg and leave enough room underneath to get things done. Other than scrog to make it even, sometimes limited stress will slow them down a bit as well, like taking a few leaves every day or strategically cutting a branch at the right time etc.

It all depends on the lights and growing style. I like the let the buds on the outer perimeter plants get taller than the ones directly beneath the light. V shaped canopies work great with the right lights.

@ Yeah, keeping an even canopy with different strains is difficult that's many people will meet. Your canopy looks even at present. We will check your thread if they need to add a net again after stretch. Waiting for your update.
The best to get an even plant canopy for indoor grow is to strive for even indoor plant light coverage. For grow light time per canopy surface together with grow light time under the canopy as angled indoor plant light.
