My first plant grew normally, after 5 or 6 nodes I trimmed the top to bush it out. Eventually I ended up with 6 main colas and lots of little buds, something at every bud site. Before flowering it I took a total of 12 clones, of which 4 survived. But the clones are not growing normally. At every node, they are sprouting a leaf AND a new branch. EVERY NODE. They are about 2 1/2 feet tall and I have trimmed roughly 100 tops from each plant, just to keep them manageable. These are only my second attempt at growing, their mother being my first. I don't know why they are growing like this, the mother didn't. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In a vegetative state the plant will always produce a new branch shoot at each node. Totally normal.

Ok. I've trimmed and trimmed these three girls (one became an xmas gift), trying to keep them from getting too bushy. I didn't do nearly this much trimming on the mother, and the main colas gave me buds about 6 inches long, not very dense, and the rest of the buds got smaller and smaller the closer they got to the main trunk. I'm hoping to avoid so many smaller buds, and persuade them to put that energy instead into longer, denser main colas. I've got the girls into the size and shape I want and I'm ready to change the lighting, but when should I stop trimming the new branch shoots? I trimmed all three of them today, can I flip them right away? Also, any tips for stopping the smaller buds at every node?

Thanks for getting back to me and offering advice. I know I should UTFSE and I will, but I still like to throw out questions.

Here are some pics, I hope you they're detailed enough. You can see how bushy the tops get, and the trunk pic shows all the places I trimmed a new branch away. You guys know more than I do, but I swear the mother plant didn't branch like this. The "BranchTop" pics show how every node sprouts a new, growing top.
Thanks again guys. And girls.

They look really nice brother. Have you been growing long? What strain are they? My first plant yielded a total of 59 grams trimmed and dried. I was disappointed (I had fantasies of 1 pound yields, lol) but also encouraged. The buds were as pretty as anything I had ever bought, just not very big.

I'm a fellow old man and one of my (adult) sons insisted that I should be defoliating, but I decided not to on my first try. This time around I'm giving it a shot in hopes of larger, more dense main colas. Any thoughts?
Also, this strain (White Runtz) is supposed to produce buds that are red, blue, and purple, along with green, but the first plant only gave me green with orange hairs. I've read that low temps at night toward the end of the flowering stage will bring out the other colors, so that's the plan. Thoughts on that?

Thanks for taking time.

Ya that can be true. But not much of a change. Think it's a 10 degree limit. I purposely keep my temps low but not to low from seed and keep it the same all the way through.. Around 16 18 lights off. And 24 lights on. Seems to work a treat rh around 45 55..nrver done runts but did do a blue cookies last run n that was purple and light green..

I bought a 1200w full spectrum LED on amazon, but it died about a month ago. I contacted the company, they apologized and sent me a 1500w replacement. They didn't ask for the first light back, so I'm trying to find someone to repair it so I can run both of them. The strain is White Runtz. I bought the seeds from Anesia Seeds.

Gorilla Bomb a hybrid of both like most these days but it's Indica leaning. My first grow with it and I have no idea what the final will be like but I better enjoy it, I'll have a bunch of it over the next few months. I have 2 that size from clones and 3 of the mothers they came from that are 5 ft tall but the bottoms have been chopped for the clones.

Nothing. I loved seeing how bushy the mother was, but I think all that extra growth took away from the final yield. In this round of plants I'm defoliating heavily as an experiment, trying to focus all of the plants energy into larger, more dense main colas. I'll post afterwards, whether it works or not.

I have not. This is only my second attempt at growing. And to be completely transparent, I bought the seeds from the Sensible Seeds website. Sensible Seeds claim the seeds are from Anesia, and I believe that. They came in Anesia packaging that certainly appears legitimate.

Along with my order from Sensible Seeds I received 5 free seeds in Green House Seeds packaging, strain Super Lemon Haze. I've tried to germinate 4 of them and all 4 failed to germinate. I gave up after 4 tries.

The packaging says Indica dominant. Going by picture I've looked at and by what I've read, I think that's accurate. Most of the leaves have 7 fingers, and as the plants get bigger, many of the leaves have 9 fingers. They may look long in the pics, but to me they look short and fat.

It sounds like you're saying that your light schedule is 18 off/24 on. Am I reading that correctly? Or are those numbers meant to represent temperature in Celsius? I'm in the States, and although I would have to agree that the metric system is more efficient, it never really took hold here, especially temperature. Most Americans know a little bit of grams/kg, fewer know that booze comes in 750ml bottles, but Celsius might as well be Latin.

During Veg I do 18 hours on/ 6 hours off. Then to trigger flowering I switch to 12 hours on/ 12 hours off. This time around I'm thinking of increasing the flowering daytime light by 5 minutes per day, my thought being that more light means more growth. I'm not sure if that will work, I don't know if it will trigger re-vegging, but it might be worth a try.

Ten percent at a time is what I read, so that's what I did initially. Once I got them shaped like I wanted, I re-trimmed each plant every third day eventually removing more growth than I left on. I've got 3 plants growing in a small (4ft x 4ft) room, so they can't be too bushy.

Thank you for all the information, Oldmanbud50, and good luck to you too brother.
