Not sure if it's what you have, but I seem to remember rare dankness releasing a strain called Afghan Blue.

Is the avatar artwork by Utagawa Hiroshige? His style is rather iconic, I've always been a big fan.

Thanks for the eBay Gnatrol tip! It is absolutely more active than the mosquito dunks. Following gnatrol applications I placed a good inch of sand over the topsoil and haven't seen anything flying for a couple weeks now. It's a pretty simple pest to eradicate, but very annoying until they disappear.

Update time, happy plants in veg. This is the boring part, most of the action is root growth so not much to see. Going to go another week or so before flowering.

Hokusai is the artist who created the painting, his philosophy is inspiring.

Yes, the Gnatrol is working for me also. I traced the gnats back to Mendo Mix bagged soil, so that goes outside to the patio pots for vegetables and Gnatrol gets added to every watering. Nice dusting of DE and capped with a layer of sand just to be sure. There are a lot of yellow sticky cards in the grow area now too. Problem seems to be solved. Thinking either Fox Farm Ocean Forest or Roots Organic, will see how they look at the grow store, going to be watching for gnats this time. Planning to flower in these #1 pots and up-pot just the females. The clones are all rooted so ready to find winners.:D

I'll check on the breeder for the Afghan Blue. I "inherited" a portion of a great grower's seed collection and because they were not in the original pack, don't know. Yet.:D

Quick update. I placed the 5 plants in the flowering room and after a few days found 2 males, which I culled, and will up pot the females, hopefully by tomorrow. These look like winning plants so far.
First 3 pics are of a sample female, the 4th pic is a male that was culled.

What stands out so far with these plants is the uniformity. All were of similar dimensions and structure, which I think is a very good indicator for the cross. Lets see what happens. No up pot yet, probably be a couple days, so in the meantime they sit in flowering light schedule in their 1 gallons being watered with Jack's Blossom Booster at half strength.

Not much to add except that these are all growing great. The interesting aspect of these plants is how the buds develop primarily along the central branches instead of at the tips. This might make staking easier since the buds look they are going to be large. The Wicked Queens are the 3 in front. In the back are a couple Gojis. The light is a 600W HPS (iPower bulb, second grow) run from an iPower ballast.

For this Wicked Queen plant I am using tomato cages, an idea that was stolen from others and has worked out great on other grows. Anticipating heavy buds from this one.:D

Aromas are tough for me, I may need to recruit help in identifying the smells. All I know for sure is that I like the aroma, it isn't skunk, so that helps with my stealth requirement, but I did take the precaution of replacing the activated charcoal in the filters.

Going to smoke a Blue Dream roach, so update in a day or so. Carry on.

Halfway through flowering and these plants look great. They have remained short, not much stretch at all. They only vegged briefly, next time I'll veg for about 5 weeks to grow larger plants. The 3 plants are very similar in all respects, structure, bud location and aroma. Large buds, hope they come out dense. I have also started a couple in hydro and will be taking pics when the lights are off, these yellow pics drive me nuts. I like the plant so far, let's see how it smokes in a couple months.:D

These 2 plants in front are Wicked Queen, they are from the tops that I cut during veg and put into a cloner for a week and then into hydro veg. The one on the right is smaller because the light was blocked by the leaves of the one on the left during veg. I generally turn the hydro plants into edible oil and use the soil plants for smoking, depending how they turn out. The hydro nutrients are Jack's with a little added CalMag, Hygrozyme and Earth Juice. I find the Jack's works excellent at the light end of the instructions, about 1/2 tsp per gallon and change the res every couple weeks. Adding Pondzyme helps to keep the res clear too. 400W HPS iPower light.

Couple days and I'll trim the lowers on those hydro plants, just like to give them a few days to adjust to the new location. These seem like good growers, reasonably compact and great genetics, very interested in how the smoke turns out. Will be especially sweet to have both soil and hydro buds on hand as it helps with understanding the differences. I installed monofilament line on the hydro rack to tie them up.:D

30 days into flower and looking good. Buds are getting very large, makes me wish that I had vegged longer, next time 5-6 weeks of veg in order to get the best yield. Not going to be much to trim on these plants, they seem to be all bud weight and minimal leaves.:D
