Day 12

Zkittlez bagseeds

Germinated in paper towel , planted in coco 70/30. At first I was adding minimal nutes ;

CalMag............................................5.0
Flora micro......................................1.25
Flora gro.........................................0.6
Flora bloom.....................................0.6
All measurements per gal
Then I noticed some burning happening (see below) in 1-2 of the seedlings so I asked for some advice from a more experienced friend and he said just give them PH water for now and listen to them when they call for food, as they are not autos it’s not imperative I give them as much nutes before flower.

Another problem is I experienced some stretching on several of my seedlings, at first it was a clear & obvious fix : My light was far too high so I lowered that about 12 inches above the seedlings, I also gradually increased intensity from 10% to 30% .I am also a little worried about my RH being a little low hopefully someone can offer some support on that subject.

Temp: 80 °F
Light schedule : 18/6
RH: 34%
Water/nutes: now just PH

After the stretching I added some top soil on some of them in an attempt to give stems support, I’ve also introduced a fan now to keep the seedlings shaking, however as you can see here most of them have this slant like the leaning tower of pizza in Italy?
Sorry for the long winded start I started this journal quite late and didn’t want to miss any information for anyone that might be able to help.

Thanks

Congrats on your first grow!

1. Your humidity is way too low for seedlings. They need around 65-70% at this stage since they’re focused on growing their taproot. Right now, they’re mostly growing through their leaves using the stomata, so they need higher humidity to keep those stomata open.
2. For light, if you’ve got a 300W full-spectrum LED, you can start at 50% intensity at about 24 inches for the first week. Then, bump it up to 75% while keeping it at 24 inches for the next week (depending on how the plant’s doing). Or, if you want to be more precise, you can use the Photone app with 80gsm paper as a diffuser to measure PPFD and DLI.

Thanks for the reply!
I live in Thailand and run a air con during the day in my lung room which practically sucks out most of the moisture in the air, so without a little cheap diffuser I get 25% rh but when that’s on it’s around 35% . I’ve been heavily contemplating in investing in a humidifier for the tent just not sure which is big enough.
Also I’m about to adjust the light a little and bring up the % to your recommendation, do you think this will have a negative effect on the current stretching ? After I initially brought the light down it seems to of stopped it so I’m worried bringing back up a little might make them stretch again.

Like I mentioned, light distance depends on your light’s specs. If you know your light specs well, you can adjust the distance based on that. But if your light specs aren’t clear, I’d suggest using the Photone app on your phone with an 80gsm paper as a diffuser to measure it easily. That way, you’ll know exactly what your plant needs at its stage. Measure the PPFD, then convert it to DLI using a DLI calculator (just Google it). With 65-70% RH, you can aim for around 250 PPFD, which should give you about 15 DLI. Seedling only need around 12-15 DLI.

Most seedlings will stretch its hard to prevent, more light is better.

Day 14
Airflow or Humidity? If you had to chose one to prioritize which would it be?

After taking some advice from you guys I’ve increased humidity and this is where we are at. I am however a little worried for my tent at home & humidifier the only way to get humidity upto 65-75% is keeping the tent mostly shut with a little crack at the top, every now and then I turn on extraction open it up and then close it again but I’m also worried cus of the fluctuating humidity when I do this, so my question is do I prioritize airflow or humidity ? Because with my current set up I’m finding it impossible to do both to a high standard.
Temp: 80 °F (day) 81 °F (night)
Light schedule : 18/6
RH: 73%(day) 58% (Night)
Water/nutes: now just PH

As a temporary fix to raise the humidity while in the seedling stage you can wet an old towel or blanket and hang it in your tent with a small circulation fan blowing on it lightly. Looks like you're off to a good start. Good Luck.

Thanks a lot I’ve tried this and got a 5% increase from my lung room 25% rh so it didn’t do much for me,

That's a good question. Have no idea on that one.

Temp: 80 °F (day) 81 °F (night)

I transplanted one into a bigger pot & I’ve noticed some discoloration in the leaf 24 hours later, should I start adding nutes ?
