Ok so one of the main things in setting a grow room.. access to water and drainage right....?

Well IM having issues and need some advice from pros please. I have a grow tent in a sort of back closet room in my bedroom. there is a bathroom and a vanity (vanity with sink inside bedroom) about 6 ft away

IN the past I was using a quick hose connect to connect a flat style garden hose to fill my res and such.

NOw Im looking to make things easier and IM also considering drain to waste so I need to mix things up.. plus I might be adding ro system.

Idealy I would love to hook up a y and a 3/4" adapter under the sink that runs to a hose.. I just cant seem to drag my self to doing it. Some one once told me its unsafe to have a water hose connected to home plumbing constantly filled with water because back drain into the house system of stagnant water that you probly dont want to drink plus possible damage to plumbing system...

is this completely bogus or not? I mean so what if the water is sitting in a hose.. if the hose valve is off at the sprayer there is still pressure in plumbinb system so how can this effect anything? the water sits in the coper pipes much the same way.. till you turn the valve.

The other thing im curious about is standard hydro water pumps...

how strong are they exactly.. ?I have like a 500gph unit that seems to flood my table pretty fast... I also used the pump to push water about 5 ft 1/2" hose out of my window to drain the rez..
what size pump can push a garden hose..?

if im doing drain to waste should i use like 1/4" tubing to drain into my sink about ten feet away or like 1/2" or garden hose to drain out of window?? SHould I drill a fucking hole through the wall and setup a little pvc pipe drain leading to outside right by the then?

how would you go about this?

im growing with hydroton 20-30 plants..

I was thinking about doing soil or coco drain to waste drip.. Im completely green in this area.. how much water will i go through? lets say a 30 gal rez how offten will i top off? should I use a float valve... could I also use a float valve to tell the drain rez to start pumping waste?

Set your top drip rate/timed cycle at a level where there is no drain tol waste goin on..the plants and media retain it all..no drainin..it takes a day or so to get it figure out but its no big deal

Float valves on res's work great till they don't and then they make a mess...30 gallon res will last a couple of day to a week in the beginning but as the plants get big and feed like crazy your probably goin to get a day at best out of 30 gallons

THANKS TEX!

Any thoughts on what gph pumps are capable of what... Ie 200gph 1/2" 6ft 3/4 3ft high and 12' 6' distance... 400gph can run garden hose 12' distance etc etc.. I know the mfg says one thing.. but from exp what can these little pumps do? lately ive seen inline/submersible switching pumps for same prices wonder if those are helpful for longer distances..

what do you think about hooking up the water hose under the sink..? maybe use a mehanical shuttoff timer to be safe about the whole back pressure thing?

Tex your scaring me...should I be worried about my float?

Pumps are pumps what you need to know is all pumps GPH drop off for every foot in height they have to pump up to. For example your 500gph pump can only pump 400gph if you are pumping up 1 foot higher than the pump. It's called pump head. I needed a pump for my chiller and the chiller required 1200 gph but my head height was 6 feet so I needed a pump that would do 2400 gph so the chiller would get 12000 gph.
