Um, would anybody be mad if I messed with y'all's head for a minute? I've been thinking about and mocking up the tree grow as I've described above, but I just couldn't get some nagging issues off my mind; all these lights and there will still be big dark spots on the tree canopy. If I rotate it, I risk damage. The ventilation is also an issue, as Jalisco Kid has pointed out. I'm already up to 5 bare bulbs and I can see that's all the capacity my cooler has. I just... Didn't like it. It bothered my engineering sensibilities.

So then Cap n Jalisco start talking about hedges, which made me think about vertical canopies. I saw that you can light either side of a hedge, or both. I saw how easy it is to train and maintain, since it's already standing up in front of you! And, then my mind went back to all that wasted wattage going everywhere but on a tree... and bam. Inspiration struck-

NEW THREAD! This tree discussion can and should continue here, what I have in mind is the subject of the new thread, still in the trees forum.

I remember you referencing McGuyver at one time so I'm sure it will be epic!

Like.

Hang one bulb vertical in center of room over a 4x4 tray. Build a 4 wall vertIcal hedge around tray & bulb.

Line more 4x4 trays around the outer edge of the vertical square. Hang a vert lamp over each tray & build 4 more vertical hedge walls.

Repeat steps 1 & 2 until you reach exterior walls

Zip tie your feet to your light mover, hang upside down to defoliate & maintain plants :)

Lol I love the last part! Why didn't I think of that! I'm running RDWC/topfeed hybrid, the aim being to be certain the plants have access to all the nutrients and water they want. The room is sealed, co2 tanks, sentinel chhc-4 environmental controller.

I'm going to build one of my 'pogo' vertical light movers this weekend and I already have my stretchiest strain in the cloning tent. If the first one works, building the other three will be easy to complete quickly.

I'm doing 4 cylinders in the room, which measures 9'3"x10'10". I wanted a fifth one in the middle, but no room- without levitation, at least! Even though these bulbs will be open and unvented, I think their heat and light will be better absorbed by the plants and less cooling will be needed than with conventional trees.

So guys I ran some tests with the water cooled light and found that the glass reduces lumens by 10% and the water by another 5% so the total loss on my or any watercooled light is 15%. Also ttystikk, if you are really serious about growing trees and they are inside, hydro is better. Maybe if it was for your head and you didn't want money grow organic soil, but if you think about it hydro is better. You don't need spinning trees or anything crazy, just put as many bulbs in your room as you can cool and fill that shit up. Do it ASAP and stack.

Sound advice, I intend to follow it forthwith.

A lazy Susan is a great idea for soil plants. I'm afraid it would just tangle my poor rdwc all up!

Yo Tystik you ever see that big black contraption a few years back it was a block reservoir that had plants on top rotating on gears .... Not sure if it had DWC set up but I remember seeing it at a grow expo. You could prolly reverse engineer it
