Jesus, I just started my first joint of the day and got lost in musing, forgot to mention that my POINT is that part of learning to grow is learning to respond to the plant, not necessarily following a formula.

I totally understand what you mean, and from here on out I'm gonna stick to what the plants are telling me. If I wouldn't have been persistent with my Q's, I wouldn't have found out that it's a P- problem as opposed to Mg-, even after ALL my studying I still thought I was chasing Mg-. So it does pay to ask questions sometimes. Referring to the guy saying I'm OCD, THIS IS MY FIRST GROW! Give me a break

This is the problem with ppm--it is a derivation, a conversion and calculation, made from EC (electrical conductivity). As such, there are different conversion factors. The two I'm aware of are called the .5 and .7, or the 500 or 700 conversion factors, which is where my own head begins to spin because it's NUMBERS...! I am mathematically declined, and it's a serious disability, I'm not joking about this. In any event, those are only *two* conversions, two variations on the ppm theme, that we don't know here. Better to learn and use EC.

Second, a huge part of the feeding scenario is lighting, and I don't think that can be hemphasized enough (that was a typo, but I've decided to leave it as my Freudian slip o' the finger). Light drives every process for the plant, it is integral to how well the plant will be able to utilize available nutrients.

The issue that I have with what you're doing, and this is strictly personal, is that it's chemical salt solubles, and it's formulaic, and I personally have a really, REALLY hard time working that way. I don't follow recipes unless I'm baking, and even then, I take liberties. And that does conflict with my science-loving, definitive-answer-loving self. But it melds perfectly with the artistic side of things, the gut, the instinct, the feel.

That's what takes time to learn, and here's the rub--you absolutely HAVE to learn your own way, because THAT is what is going to work for *you*. What swerve does works for him. It just so happens that a variation on the Big Ricky method worked for me, but it was a mathematically-mistaken variation (I completely misread and misunderstood and so miscalculated how much Fox Farms Big Bloom to give, and so the plants were basically getting a mild flush every time I thought I was feeding them. NOT his recipe at all, yet it worked beautifully for me).

So, what conversion factor is/was swerve using when feeding his girls that he's talking about here? That's one place for a mistake to occur. EC is absolute, and it's absolute across the board as long as you're using it in the right scenario, and you are. And, I'll tell you this much, even if it's the .5 conversion he was using, that sure seems to be pushing them awfully hard. I've only run crosses, but none of them were that hungry, nowhere nearly that hungry.

Finally, on the Lucas formula. It works great for some people, and terribly for others. That's it. This may not be the best method to grow for you, and it's just going to take some time for you to either get this method 'dialed in' or to figure out which method works best for you. Indoor growing isn't rocket science, but neither is it easy breezy unless you have a gift. It took me some TIME, and it's still taking me more time, I still make terrible mistakes and screw some things up pretty royally. See my post and pix in the Death by Stylet thread for the most recent proof of that. View attachment 340046

I totally understand about not knowing what ppm he's talking about, that's why I converted mine to E.C. At least one time, I figured you would be able to understand my further ppm's by looking at the E.C. And figuring out I'm on the 500 scale.. If Swerve is using that same conversion he's feeding then HARD! He's prolly on the 700.

A little ocd arent we? I would get em in bigger pots immediately, unless you plan on feeding with a hydro style setup. Usually when a plant needs water everyday it is ready for a bigger pot. Just go to a one gallon if you need space. Keep it simple dont get to complicated, the plant will feel your emotions and die off.

They are still in solo cups, I'm transplanting the one I'm flowering to a 3gal and I'm gonna flower in that.. The other one I'm just going up to 5X5 square cuz I'm trying to mumsai her, figured square would be easier for root pruning cuz I will be leaving her in that pot for her whole life, hopefully at least a year. And like I said earlier give me a break dude, its my first grow ever! Thanks for the advice tho..

Those babies are looking nice bro! What week is that? im guessing around the end of 4 or 5?? I dont got big bud and dont have the $ for it right now, I do have G.H. Liquid KoolBloom tho and I plan on using that. Hopefully it helps, but this is my first grow and I'm using cfl's which Ive run into a huge problem with heat!! Its pretty Ironic that I spent a shitload of $ on enough cfls to actually work thinking I wouldnt have to worry about Heat, BIG MISTAKE!! If you start compiling LOTS of bulbs and watts with cfls its actually hotter than an air cooled hps of the same wattage. Reason being is its soooo hard to exhaust the heat off of all those different bulbs which they do get hot!

View attachment 341034 This was 30 days in, I used bud blood in the beginning which made it explode. Liquid koolbloom is cool but it wont give you the explosion that you want. I used it for years with basic results. Try big bud with just base nutes and you will be impressed! Keep us updated with your pics:cigar:

Sorry no updates or pics for so long guys, lets just say that "When it rains it pours" is a serious understatement.. Its Snowing on my life right now, almost having to scrap the grow over it. Still not sure about that, but Im trying my hardest to at least flower this one baby out! Hopefully will, but I'm having way too high of temps. up top and doing what I can to get them down. Happened to come up on a really good deal for some equipment which included a 12000btu mobile AC.. Obviously I cant fit the motherfucker into my closet, but with some pretty fucked rigging during lights on and I've been able to get the canopy down under 80F. So thats barely acceptable for flower so Im gonna have to work it out better. At the same time Im not gonna do anymore super cropping till Im ready to put a scrog down, and I've seen that this strain likes to stretch quite a bit after starting 12/12, so I need to make sure I got the room for her.. not to mention the means to keep her cool once shes thickening up which I hope I have. Anyway tho, I wish I had a pic of her now cuz she has had a nice growth spurt the past few days since the transplant, I'll take one tommorow morning and post it. Oh yeah I used the empty cup in the hole method of transplant that whoever it was had talked about and it was probably the easiest thing I've ever done. Awsome tip! Really wish I could remember the name tho!
So here's this bitches Healthy ass root system!
2013 09 20 124248

I really liked the roots! LOL
2013 09 20 124255

And here's the other side just cuz I have to show it! LOL
2013 09 20 124307

And here's her happy in her new home, Literally no transplant stress AT ALL!!
2013 09 20 124348

Just to show how it looked before I slid her in, it fit soooo perfect, the top was even perfectly even!

still fighting the red/purple stems pretty bad tho, Just cant seem to figure it out.. She was enjoying her food as I was Low E.C. flushing her and I Gave her just a bit of food for the water in, but shes taking a bit to dry up all 3 gal of Coco, then Im gonna hit her with a Nice dose of Nutes cuz shes growing like crazy now and her leaves look healthier then ever! maybe a bit lime so Ill make sure she gets her dose of N and I'll keep everyone Posted.. Oh yeah, Ive somewhat solved the heat issue, but Even with a Humidifier running full blast all the time lights are on its never much above 40% R.H. IDK what to do about that but I think she'll be ok.. Shes sitting under 10 bulbs which = 276 watts of mixed spectrum 5000K and 6500K CFL's with a homemade flat white air cooled hood made out of 1/4 in. PosterBoard. I'll Post some pics tomorrow so you guys can understand wtf I'm talking about.LOL

Looks Great family! I would add Grotek Pro Silicate, and B-52 to combat heat. Pinch the top nodes off each arm to make the plant bush and not stretch. Hope this helps:cigar:

I wouldn't worry about the red/purple petioles unless you see the plant's functions/growth really stall. Usually the P-utilization issues will show more problems before that happens, though.

I've pinched her quite a few times already and i think if i wouldnt have I would have a 3 ft plant easy by now! She's definetely stretching a bit, prolly cuz i had to pull the lights up off of her a bit. Been using G.H. Silica blast, only running G.H. Product line right now.. no reason for that really, its just what I bought. Thanks for the tip tho Fam.

So here's a couple pics i was able to snap this morning of her in her environment, its a small closet that was for a top/bottom washer dryer so it had 4 inch vent duct plus hot and cold water (Although I dont use the water, I buy my RO for the moment). Anyway I built a 20" tall table/shelf for a small veg/clone space on the bottom, although i didnt think to take pics of the Mumsai and clones down there I will get some soon and put em up so you guys can see the bottom..Actually It's in alot of the older pics in this thread. I have 4 2ft T5 bulbs down there, staggered spectrum 6500K & 4100K. although my design is flawed, its at least working for now.. Not everything that looks good on paper works in application AND my only chance to get these clones was before The room was complete or tested so I've been working thru the issues, but this is what I've got up top. Obviously not JUST a flower chamber cuz I wanna veg em for a bit longer and scrog the space.
Here's a pic from a bit back so you can see how shes sittin and the lights..

Heres a lil closer shot of "BabyGirl" LOL
2013 09 25 110604

This is a lil shot of the HomeMade air cool Hood I made, works ok, but not gonna help a bit when I have to hook up the carbon filter and jack the lights way up so its actually sucking from near them.. Thats a 4 inch flex duct coming straight from a 175cfm Blower @ full speed during lights on and I had to put the mobile AC just outside the closet set to 65F just to keep the canopy below
80F! and that's still almost a foot away!!
2013 09 25 110618

One of my Air intakes that comes straight from outside with only 1 90 degree bend using 4inch PVC and there's a 100cfm inline fan for intake in there too!
2013 09 25 110632

Directly above that intake One 6 inch oscilating fan that blows up over the top of the canopy
2013 09 25 110636

Another Powerful Oscilating 6" pointing up at the plant, w/ a humidifier that blows cool air pointing straight at it
2013 09 25 110639

Another 4" PVC Lightproof Intake with 2 computer fans I added inside of it, that actually just goes straight down and sucks off the bottom of below chamber But I have a 2nd 4" filtered intake coming straight into the bottom chamber Passively.
2013 09 25 110645

I know I went a bit overboard with these pics, but just wanted to show you guys the setup, If anyone has any Ideas of controlling heat better in flower cuz I got WAY bigger and More Bloom lights that I Plan on throwing at her. 4x 68w 2300K Cfls, plus 4x 44w 2300K, & 8 more 26w 2300K's.. problem being I cant duct straight off the lights when they start stinking cuz I gotta hook up the 1ft long about 6in. Diameter Carbon filter.. Im thinking maybe just cut apart the "Hood" to where its just the top rectangle part left, I would loose a lot of light Up but I think I would also Lose alot of Heat up.. I need to be able to get her close enough too!
Any help would be appreciated. Here's one last pic of the Lady In her new and Final Home.

How many plants do you have?

Just 2, I have one that I'm keeping as a small Bonsai Mom in the lower veg space, I've never cloned before but I took 2 clones from her already and using 2 inch rockwool cubes and its been a little while now but I know they have rooted they're just taking FOREVER to pop out the bottom, i think it might have to do with low temps cuz they are in a dome box underneath with the Mom and it on 18/6 photoperiod, They should be under 24 hr light but running 18/6 helps keep my mom smaller and helps with my temp problems. I have top and bottom on 18/6 but the top ones come on 30 min after the bottom goes off. I got 2 clones from a dispensary and they were almost dead when I got em pretty much, if you go back to the beginning of the thread there are pics from the beginning. Why do you ask??
