Fungus Gnats in Coco

Ok, I'm in coco drain to waste. Got fungus gnats pretty bad. Started using bioshark soil attack and ogbiowar tea about three weeks ago. Soil attack applied once every 21 days as recommended. Brewing the tea (foilar and root packs) per the recipe on the website (worm castings and molasses). I've hit the plants once a week for three weeks now and have yet to notice any difference. I've searched through your forum and know that it takes awhile to get them under control, just want to make sure I'm on the right track and get an idea of how long it might take to get rid of the gnats? One issue is I have been brewing the tea in straight tap water... my tap water is pretty good (low ec of .2 or so) so I don't use ro. I've ordered a hydrologic decholorinator which should be here next week as my city's water report shows [4]ppm chlorine. The four is in brackets which I have no clue as to what the brackets mean as nothing else is in brackets. Not sure how much damage any possible chlorine content is doing?

Are you hand watering?
If so, your prob over watering a touch

I've had them bad a few times and had to bust out gnatrol

Mosquito dunks would be the next step if gnatrol and letting the pots dry out doesn't do it

Tried dunks without much luck, same with gnatrol. Have tried letting them dry out more too but that really effects growth.

I use preventative measures after I received a whole flock of gnats from bags of ROOTS 707 soil. Layering 1" of perlite on the tops of my containers really helps along with crumbled up mosquito dunks sprinkled on top of coco. RB

no disrespect but if you HAVE tried all of those you are really doin something wrong if they are still there....

you have sticky traps on the media to catch the adults???

when are you putting the foliar into the brew of the tea and how long are you letting it brew for?

100 ml molasses??? what i use for 5 gal tea mix.

let it dry out more..... you must be over watering. when i apply my tea into coco (use cocogro bontanicare) if there are any bugs they run for the fuckin hills the second i feed w tea. mix it with the sticky traps and perlite/sand on top..... man i see like 1-2 per sticky pad per run thats it
I agree I'm doing something wrong... either that or being too stubborn about not letting the coco dry out. I'm in botanicare cocogrow too. I'm doing bigger batches of tea (about 12-14 gals) and mixing as per directions except I have not as of yet dechloronated my water (hoping that's the problem maybe?). I'm then dispursing the tea into 80-100gals of water and watering. I brew for 24hrs and mix all ingredients at the same time. Have only used it three times now over the last three weeks so maybe it's a combo of chlorine and things just needing more time? Have not set out sticky traps lately but I have a bunch so I'll get them up.

I think CAP revised his brewing instructions recently for the foliar pack. Think you are only suppose to brew foliar bennies for 8 hrs tops now. RB

Look into NukeEm by Flying Skull. It's basically just citric acid and yeast. They claim you can spray this stuff the day of or after harvest, and even drink it if you felt the need. (I've sprayed it in late flower and noticed difference in flavor or smoothness etc)
If you do try this..don't spray with lights on, let it fully dry before you turn them on or everything burns. I wait 2 hours and everything's good to go.

I had the fungus gnat issue for 4 or 5 months (granted I hadn't tried to get rid of them aside from bowls of apple cider vinegar with water..no cigar)...3-4 applications and bam, problem solved :) Also knocked out the pm issue I had (over spraying foliars).

Just a thought, if everything you're trying now fails you.
Good luck! Those things are annoying.

Spraying and yellow sticky traps will kill the adults..but they breed larvae into the top layers of coco...so you need to do a soil drench. Try some Microbe Lift BMC...it's a sub species of bacillus thuringensis and all you need is 1-2 drops per 5 gallons to treat.

Thanks, haven't heard of NukeEm... I've been spraying with Organicide and it's been doing a decent job on both adult Gnats and spider mites. No problems with pm thanks to sulfer burner. =)

Right on, yeah I believe it's relatively newer, and happens to be somewhat local to me...assuming that's how my shop picked it up.
Currently using it on spider mites and it's frying the little bastards.
If you're talking about 'Organic Laboratories Organocide' and it's working more power to you, and I'm interested now to look into it....it beats the price of nuke-em any day. Gotta buy this stuff by the gallon to get a decent price..

Yeah that's it. It's made of mostly fish oil so smells really bad... be warned. But a side bonus (for my garden at least) is greener plants after spraying due to the nitrogen in the fish oil.

Lmfao, good to know. Thank ya sir. Are there any soil drench instructions for it, or only foliar? Nuke-Em has a drench, but it isn't cost effective for large gardens..

No I only tried it one time... I have the granulated version and got it off of ebay, never really trusted the stuff. Maybe I'll give it another go if the tea doesn't clear em up... does gnatrol work fine with organics?

Letting the coco dry out does not help, as it will only make it easier for the adults to navigate through the top layer of your medium. Botanicare is really bad with these, especially the coco grow. Caps nute pack will help alot. A small dose of bayer tree and shrub works as well, but make sure you run some tea a few times afterwards, as it will killsome bennies for sure. I use it at about two teaspoons per five gals. And be sure not to bloom them for at least 20 days after treatment, maybe 30.

Yeah, the cocogrow has a very low ec outta the bag which is big for me as I really can't prerinse with my setug. Gnats for days though in my rooms so easily could see that being an issue.
