I have one really sweet Golden Lion GSC Forum x DubKing female plant and would like to try to produce some seeds off of her. I also have some fresh Big Bud x DK pollen.

Is it possible to pollinate just two bud sites on the GSC using a paint brush dipped in pollen without impregnating the entire plant? I've read that some folks do this using a paintbrush and then cover the bud site with a bag for a few days.

There's no way I've done it with making more seeds then intended but you can minimize that by controlling your environment as much as you can, they say that the calyx takes in pollen fairly quickly , I don't know how quick but a few people rinse the whole plant soon after dusting because water allegedly kills pollen....I say allegedly because it's hard for me to believe that it's concrete that every bit of pollen is no longer viable after being wet any how if you can and want to still harvest sensi take as many precautions as you can good luck and have fun

It's simple pull plant out around week 3 and apply pollen in a closed no fan ,no breeze area . Paint it with a paint brush or q tip (pollen) on to the bud sights you wanna pollenate and label them , I use a twist tie and usually do the entire branch. Then spray the entire plant down with water and allow to dry , some keep out entire 12 hr flower but not nec
After plant finishes you should have at least 100 beans a limb
Best of luck

How long do you wait before rinsing?

Use a waterpaint brush, flex the shoot to be pollenated away from main plant. Apply pollen by dabbing not brushing as youll flick pollen in the air. The pollen grabs the pistles and are pretty stationary. Its the pollen that falls ontge leaves that you worry bout but that why u dab so whatever falls gets caught by the trichs not to float away. All it takes is 6-8 hrs for the genetic info to transfer as the pistleswill wilt, then spray with water and return to the group.
But thats being safe, i pollenate in my tent with girls around, just shut down all fans, and get max 5-10 beans from cross pollenation. U dont know until u experience it for yourself! So go for it!!!

Absolutely! It's how brother Loran taught me to do it. I don't recall that he covers the branch with a bag, and I've never done it myself, either. I'll be making some seeds this year with some Skunk ladies, they're outside so I'll do it early in the morning when the wind is calm.

Sounds good, thanks guys.

What type of bag? plastic.....paper? should it be somewhat breathable?

How do you now if the pollen has successfully impregnated the painted budsite/s? Do the calyx's dry up?

Covering the branch with plastic may lead to condensation considering the environment. Maybe a paint strainer material dipped in oil then wipped down thoroughly to catch particles like a k&n filter, lol just a thought!

Last run I tried something else instead of a brush. I put the pollen in a small zip bag, bend a small branch/bud horizontal, and then slide the bag around it, shake it gently, sliding it in and out softly ( ) sort of brushing the pistils against the pollen instead of the other way around, and then remove the zip bag. Fans off of course (for a day), but exhaust still on. Found 60 seeds in that bud, and just a handful in others. The advantage over using a brush is that you can clearly see the pollen, so you spill very little (instead of filling a brush tip), and don't put it in the air while applying.

How do you now if the pollen has successfully impregnated the painted budsite/s? Do the calyx's dry up?
The pistils will start turning amber/brown and within roughly 24 hours die cause they did their job. Like so:
L8N8 18 pollenated

Later on you can tell by the extra swollen seeded calyxes.

I like wrapping the plant in a trash bag(except for the branch being pollinated). Paint the hairs with a paint brush. Wait an hour or so, then thoroughly rinse pollinated branch, followed by the rest of the plant(to get any loose pollen), let dry, then return to flower room. That simple.

I just put a little between my fingers and gently rub the bud. I am very careful, wash my hands in between different male pollens and only get seeds on that branch. It scares the hell out of my son, but I have had great luck so far.

I just collected some pollen from a make in a dixie cup, let it dry out for a day, then took a qtip and dusted a few buds. The surrounding budsites have not shown any indication of them being seedsd but I guess I will know more come harvest time.

I've done the paint brush method with great success, outdoors and in, but this year I tried something new. I grabbed some paper pollination bags, essentially brown paper lunch sacks, dumped some collected pollen in each bag and gently slipped them over the chosen female branches. I twist tied them at the bottom and left them on over-night. I took the bags off, just as carefully, in the morning before a foliar spray. Yay, some Heri x Deep Chunks to play with, lol.

I've also kept a male juuust a little too long next to the girls and pollinated entire crops...haha...live and learn.

Fwiw...
