Very First BHO Run....Questions about Yield.

Ok So I have just completed my first BHO run. I started with some Hindu Kush Shake, some Sour Diesel Trim and some other high grade shake, It had some popcorn buds in it also of each. So the starting material was pretty darn good stuff. I started with 42 grams and ended up with 2.77 grams after purging for 15 hours. This is what I got...came out somewhat like shatter but not quite...not real waxy like with an acetone extraction. Maybe it always comes out like this but my buddy did a run and he seems to pull a lot of chlorophyll with marginal starting product that ended up a lot more waxy than what I have. This is what I yielded out of 42 grams starting weight....2.77 grams. This is about a 6.5% return....is this a good return? Bad? Mediocre??


The parchment and glass came very clean with just a razor blade. You cant see it in this picture but there are shards of wax on the paper that are glass like. Very easy to handle this also with out it sticking to your hand too bad.

As far as your % 6.5% is a little on the low side even for " High Grade " Trim and popcorn nugs for that i would have expected a 10-12% yield.

Well I am happy with it even if it is a bit low...I guess 6.5% is my benchmark to start from and slowly improve upon it.

With that low of a % i doubt theres much left to try and get tbh you can it won't hurt but the yeilds gonna be in the 100's of mg's at this point.

MORE then enough :D 1 can would have sufficed im sure. How tight did you pack your tube? How old was the trim? how dry?

The trim/shake was cured out so it was 100% dry when ran. It was from a recent harvest so not too too old. The tube was packed VERY tightly.

So in peak conditions...what is the highest yield a person could expect?

I always consider anything above 10% on trim to be normal and anything above 17% on top shelf to about normal 20-22% would be highest / peak conditions for nugs and i dunno maybe 12% for trim that could be a little high but..

Sorry for all the questions and thank you for the help. Do you use a vac purge? I am looking into one but not sure which model/brand to look at as there are many varieties.

I do use a vac pump and stainless steel degassing chamber so i can set that on a griddle and purge my bho while heat/vaccing.

Not much to vac pumps, CFM stands for cubic feet per min. its the amount of air removed from the chamber in 60 seconds or close to it.. I never time my pump and its a 3cfm does the job just fine.. Previous pump was a 2.5 did the job just fine... Start getting into the higher cfm models and your getting into deeper micron level vacs un-needed unless you have a vac oven chamber.

So i would look for a degassing combo on ebay chamber/vac combo can be had for 150 ish depending on how tall of a pot you get.. I think mines 2 gallon pot 100$ + the pump was 50$ Cheaper then my original setup which was a plastic dessicator chamber and a 2.5 cfm pump for over 300$ ...

So yeah ebay will be your friend just search desgassing chambers they come with all the hoses and fittings you need w/ the exception of maybe the 1/4 or 3/4 air hose fittings you can get those at home depot for the vac pump cheap. Little adapters or fittings whatever there called you find them on air hose tools and shit to connect to the quick fittings blah you get the idea :D

lemmie see if i can find a good ebay auction to give you an example of a good deal/setup.



K heres a GREAT example of whats out there. They sell just the chamber for around 100$ and you can pickup a 3cfm pump off another seller for 50$ and BAM! Heated vac chamber set it on a presto griddle/Science hot plate/WHATEVER You like :D and vac/heat your runs at lower temps keep things steady around 100-110 max and you'll find your oil is like a whole new world ;)

That is a nice looking vac purge for sure! So just need to throw a silicone mat in the bottom of that and I could blow the BHO right into the bottom of that pot? Already pre heated I assume?

And yea I used a presto for this last batch...got a perfect 110 for 15 hours. Used the TiT model with water in the presto and pyrex dish sitting in the water and then my pyrex dish sitting in that. Worked perfectly

Ok just noticed the pump isnt included in the 115...thats fine. no big deal. One more question....would I need a 3 gallon chamber? Seems big to me...

I look for 13% myself be it my tamisium or using acetone. And I winterize all my product it's essential. I use the yellow jacket 8cfm pump and it'll pull a true 29hg

noooooooooooo!! Blow into a Glass pyrex first purge most of the butane off then move the pyrex to the pot and vac more then scrape transfer to parchment and finish the vac.

NEVER blow butane into silicone!!
