I have some little guys growing and there only 2 weeks old and they are growing like crazy, but the wobbly and there leafs are large but floppy and week looking not strong and firm. Im very new to this growing thing and I have a lot to learn so I will take any advice possible. I m using a 600w hps at 50% at a little over a foot away with a fan blowing lightly.

A picture would really help here. Also some more info on your environment would be appreciated. Temps with lights on/off, same with humidity, what medium are you using your watering/feeding regiment, what are you feeding, etc etc.

Normally I would say lack of light..

Only thing I could think without a pic is overwatering

They all do this, always. I grow mine out under the Big Metal Halide in the Sky, and guess what they do. Get leggy and fall over. Then, they find themselves again, right themselves and begin praying to the Sun.

Crank the light up to full power, or switch to fluoros to save money on the electricity. But it's not necessary to use a lower lighting level than el Sol.

Albino,if they are leggy maybe you could start adding some soil? around the stem and start building it up til they stand on their own,good drainage a must when you start working your way up the stem/burying it,just turns to root,just info,good luck,Peace

600 Watt HPS- HPS is set at 18 hours on - 6 hours off

Humidity is about 25%

Temp with light on about mid 70's.
Right now its running is about 77ºF.
With the light off about 74ºF.
Im using FoxFarm/ Happy Frog soil.

I'm using GH Flora Series (Grow, Micro, Bloom)
Im feeding:
2 Tablespoons of grow
3 Tablespoons of micro and PH'd tap water at a 6.5.
I water when there almost bone dry.
I have a circulating fan on low 24/7.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you guys need anymore info.

Albino,they seem to be doing a-okay crank up the lights they will love it,back of the hand test for heat/closeness to their tops,silly question ,do those cups have drain holes in them,good work bud,good vibes your way,Peace.

Ya I cut holes in the sides of the cup and I make sure they all drain. Thanks so much Ill take all the advice I can get.

I read somewhere that tin foil is bad to use as a reflector because it absorbs light and can reflect in "hot spots" which can burn the plant. They look OK man just keep an eye on them, they should perk up.

Flat white or some mylar type of stuff,tin foil is said to absorb lite, good call jinx,Peace.

Ok awesome I will change that out tonight. I didn't ever think of that. How tall should they get before I transplant?

Completely up to you. If you are tight on space and don't know the sexes yet you may want to keep them in beer cups until you sex them and then put in a bigger pot. Less wasted space and dirt.

Welcome Albino,size sometimes doesn*t really matter sometimes time is kinda what I go by and what the plant is telling you like my shoes are to tight and jinx is right as far as sexing them keep looking for nut sacks you will get there" patience is your good friend when your kids are little"and you can*t make them grow but you can help,good vibes your way bud,Peace.

plants dont respond to well with HPS lighting in veg. its kind of stressful. ur much better off with a T5 fixture for veg. Plus move that light up to about 24"+ away from the tops of ur plants

Edit to add - get rid of that foil under ur plants as well. there is no need to reflect light to the under side of ur leaves. and plus Foil will create sharp points of light/heat and will burn ur plants. never use foil for reflection.

Edit to add again - also make sure you have fresh air exchanging in that room, i cant really tell from the pics, but it looks like it can get pretty stagnant in there.

This is an old chestnut.
I have never been able to understand how it can be true.
Also, if light is hitting the floor, what is wrong with reflecting it back up?
I don't imagine the plant cares where light comes from.

As to the original question, 25% RH is a problem. Fix it.

Albino,my humidity stays about 30*-40* seems like a little drier I have never had gnats or powdery mildew,etc..from my lower humidity,fresh air and constant temps bud,happy growing,Peace.

location of chloroplasts (where photosynthesis take place) are within the palisades cells/layer - which is located just below the upper epidermis. the Upper epidermis is the outer most layer located on the top of leaves, which is used mainly for protection but has other functions as well. Its very thin and is transparent so light can penetrate to the Palisades cells/layer where Chloroplasts use photosynthesis to provide food/energy to the entire plant.... so with this being said, light from the bottom up is not necessary, especially when one is using foil, no to mention a 600w light thats placed a foot too close to the plants, i can imagine the IR is overwhelming these little ones.... I love Chestnuts!

good call on the RH though, get that shit up!

Awesome I will do, I'll remove the foil and I have my light about 2 feet from my tops. What do I need to know about putting them in to sex and then converting them back to veg .
