I had posted on another thread about my new cloning tray. Trying an experiment with my first clones to hopefully learn a little about root success.

So that tray failed. I think i sprayed them too often and the rooting hormone washed off or something cause after a week i pulled two girls to see their progress, maybe a root sticking through the grow pellet, when it was none so much i decided to just tear one pellet open, see the root progress. Mostly for information. I had them in there a week, sprayed the foilage two three times a day. Humidity 100% temp 70-72. NO visible roots sprouted on 6 out of 9 clones. One clone had roots poppin. Another had white bumps trying to pop out at the bottom. I ended up just dunking them into clean water and leaving them. CloneX feels too watered down. Stuff literally just washes right off. Can anyone lend me some advice as to how im gonna go down this road with a little more success.

you already have 100% humidity - spraying them accomplishes nothing - dont spray clones - the extra weight stresses them out -

be patient - one week is way too short of time to start rippping pucks apart to look for roots

Let the cubes dry out after 2 weeks of having lid on. If you spray, spray the lid. Let the roots search. After cube are close to dry or dry pore water in the bottom of tray. Basically making them go down to feed. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Okay, i appreciate the insight. These we're my Very first cuttings, more or less an experiment brought on by some trimming i had to do, evening the canopy in my HPS room. Trying to learn how to clone just by doing it, figure out what takes what amnt of time and so on. The bottoms where i made the cuts had been saturated so badly from the daily sprayings they we're turning dark Brown n black.

So. That being said, i tossed most of them and started over.

Wish me luck!

FYI you don't really need clonex I just use plan water and jiffy peat pellets and have roots between 10-14 days. I all use is a heating pad under my clones and keep the dome on. Good luck

Should i put them i more direct light then that? I was under the impression i was to give them filtered light.

Thank you for the advice. I've been hearing both ways. root hormone this, plain water that. Do you think the plain water is an okay plan for a beginner?

This makes me want to take cuttings and experiment the two side by side... >:0

filtered light for sure - when clones have less than ideal conditions they could take a few weeks to root - if they droop in the first day or so if you prop them up with a toothpick or a crutch made with green garden wire it will give them a much better chance

theres a million tricks and dos and donts when it comes to cuts - for example you could pack pure coco into small plastic cups and root in those with no dome - at the end of the day you have to figure out what works for you

I use to think the same about hormones until I ran out used none and had great results. Do a experiment with both see what you come up with

Will do. Testing two chem dogg no hormone, just water.

Thank youfor for your insight. Im giving it a shot.

If you want better success with cloning, get rid of that "Cell Tray" so you can get better aeration in the root zone….Trust Me!

I dealt with that years ago…… these days, I get 100% roots within a week every single time!

You dont need alot of light to root cuts.i use 2 x 60w incandescent lamps(the kind youd put next to your bed) to root cuts in my kloner and that works perfectly.

I use Root Riots, Clonex Cloning Gel, as well as Clonex Cloning Solution @ 20ml per gallon of RO.

Soak Root Riots in Cloning Solution for no less then an hour.

Go and get yourself a kitchen plate and fill it with clonex solution to make a small reservoir.

Next, take your clone and place it on the plate, allowing it to submerge under the clonex solution.

Take your razor blade and make your 45* angle cut under the clonex solution to keep air from getting in the stem.

Next, dip the "tip only" in the Clonex Cloning Gel making sure that not too much is left on. (you don't need a giant glob)

Now, stick the stem into the Root Riot plugs until the stem nearly reaches all the way to the bottom of the plug.

Next, grab some clean scissors and cut all the leaves from the clone in half…maybe a little more.

Place clones in dome and NEVER spray the clones….EVER!

Only spray the inside of the dome!!!!

Close all air ports on dome and leave alone for 3-4 days! LITERALLY!

Keep T5's 2 feet away from top of dome and no more then 4 bulbs should be lit. (8 bulbs is too much light IME)

After 3-4 days…. take each clone and dunk it in "Fresh" Clonex Cloning Solution @ 20ml. per gallon of RO (10ml per half gal…etc)

After dunking the cubes….carefully squeeze any access solution from cubes and place back under the dome.

Spray inside of dome ONLY… NOT the clones!!!!

Leave alone for another 3-4 days and you should have small roots by then…

Good Luck~

The tray i have is similar to yours. It has two sections. In between the two trays i laid down a light bed of perlite. Will this help? It was a suggestion i received from a fellow gardener, telling me it would increase not only moisture but also air.

This is a picture from my first try. Since then, i tossed this perlite and laid down a much lighter amount.

Wow i cant believe you just gave me a step by step your the man haha. This is some amazing advice and im humbled by the responses im getting, truly thank you guys. This is my first run indoors, and based on the two outdoor plants i grew i need to step it up for quality sake. I would really like to grow some top shelf meds, thats my goal. I dont know about you guys, and i dont mean to sound like a snob, but i politely decline anything that isnt at least reminiscent of top shelf. Is that snobby? I cough a lot and that stuff tastes like old tobacco.... Anyhow.

I feel like every word i read brings me one step closer, so really, thanks guys. I was thinking about making a thread for my first grow with progress and results. Would that be dumb? Should i wait until i know i can grow dank to start all that?

Your Cell tray is NOTHING like mine!!!

The one I use is more like a flat with HUGE holes in it so that air can get to the cube from every which direction.

The one you use is close and therefore the cubes can't "breathe", which is why it is taking longer for your clones to root.

So again, Get rid of that Cell Tray and also get rid of that perlite!!! Not Needed!!!!

Haha. Alright, alright. Dude really wants me to succeed.

I only meant it was similar to yours due to the two tray action. Think i could get away with cutting some stuff open to let in more air?
