I'm trying to find my bearings on this site. This looked like the best place to start. So this is my current set up. I have a 50W LED grow light (3blue, 9red) approximately 8-12" above the tops of my plants. They are growing extremely slow. I recently transplanted the approximately 2 MONTH old plants into a 5 gallon bucket. And they they have been feed three times (about every two weeks, with plain water about every four days in between.) The humidity is usually around 45-60%, the temperature is usually around 73*. I have my light cycle on 18/6. As far as I can't tell they seem to be healthy, just very slow growing, and I can't figure out the cause. I know one plant is indica which was started about two weeks after the sativa, and has now bypassed the latter in size. I don't know really know what I'm doing wrong right now. I'm about 50 days in, I feel like my plants should be nearly triple the size they are.

Your light is a basic LED.. I find this type of LED to be poor for vegetative growth..
I'd rather use T5s or some type of CFL bulb for seedling/vegetative growth..
Bottom line is use what ever you have or spend money,, but for flower you will need more light than that one 50 W..

Enough light?? Yes if you don't allow the two plants to get to big before the 12/12 lighting flip..

I think your better off.. I use a 125W..

Not sure why they are growing so slow but the more wet/dry cycles they get the faster they will grow.if you always keep the soil real wet they will be very slow to develope.so its going to be harder now that they are in those bigger pots.if you can get your soil temps up around 68 to 70f they will dry quicker and use more water.gl

I would..why both in same bucket?
If you veg at 1.5 ' then they will be close to 3' or taller. your canopies are going to grow into each other blocking out a lot of light from each other.
I think you will do better in separate pots..i.e. Easier to judge watering and control feeding specific to individual plants needs..
Also you can still run the LED along with any other light..CFLs..
That would be 200wts then instead of 150wts..

Since your already in two pots and your sort of a beginner id suggest against trying to repot em. Roots r prolly tangled by now.
On my first veg i faced not enuff light and too big of pots too lol. I vegged under 400w hps, it did make them stretch significantly. Nodes spaced out a little too far. If you flip after it about a foot &- 1/2 tall like you said the stretch period should fill it in nicely.

Just follw the advice above by cocojoe and str8, youll be fine : )

Also if you get that cfl nice and close the nodes will stack tighter and youll get more bud sites to a smaller plant, optimal imo : )

Iv always put week old seedlings in to 3 gal pots. Watering practices have to be good tho. Iv never had an issue with it. Each to their own tho. We all grow slightly different. I repot just before flip to bigger pots with flower mix in. But ye well spotted gardnguyahoy....roots will be too tangled now.

I was reading about higher temps in veg during dark cycle stopping the stretch under hps. Supposed to give tighter nodes. Iv not tried this. Have you heard of this or tried it?

I have found that if you transplant a few times, rather than transplanting into a large pot right off the bat youl have better results, and keep the plants in individual pots. But when you go from a small cup, to a half gallon or gallon pot, then to your 5 gallon things work quicker. Mostly beause your gonna be watering alot more, and allowing the plant to fully root in each pot, creating a denser network of roots, that will take up water and nutriernts faster.

The large 5 gallon may be holding to much water, and slowing your growth down alot, if the roots dont get oxygen they will eventually start to rot, and your plant will slow to a snails pace.

Ive heard higher temps INCREASE stretch. Damn those weed scientists!

I agree with you on the big pots. Itll be fine as long as your not trying to fill that bucket with water. Small plants in big pots works if you know how to not overfeed or overwater them

Edit to add: which is why i dont suggest it to beginners. You really gotta know what your plant wants air and water wise.

Calixyon is right, allowing your dirt to be constantly wet significantly slowed my growth. That hps will make your plant suck water up faster, and increase the stem thickness. Just keep growin dude! You got this

Hehehe ask 10 growers a question...get 10 different answers. It was on old thread on here from like 2013 that I was reading. Again there were like a million answers lol.

Yea i was going to add that throwing a plant into a large pot dosent mean your plant will slow, its just keeping soil with a proper water content is much more difficult, and with an LED i would imagine that 5 gallon will hold that water for about a week. Your HPS will increase temps alot, and help you plant alot, i would ty an get some T5's same as a CFL they just are stretched out. They are cheap, efficient, and will allow you to get a good fast veg without an added increase in heat with the HPS. Make sure you have enough ventilation and airflow with the HPS. That 5 gallon will throw alot of humidity if you throw up your HPS, make sure you have solid air flow and youl be fine, but T5's or you HPS should increase the growth immeadiatly. Make sure its setup much furthur away, the HPS will burn, bleach, and kill your plants if its kept to close.

Well they have only been in the 5G for less than a week since I moved them, if I do move one to a seperate pot how big should I go? Is a gallon gonna be to big or small? I don't water them a ton, I give them maybe about a cup of water a day, per plant. Because I thought I was noticing mold or something on some of the soil, but the problem has ceased since I have done the 1c/day. And I should move my lamp closer? I've already noticed drastic growth since I switched lights, I am trying to add the LED along with the CFL right now. And when I get a little closer to flowering I'll change in the HPS, anyone have a cheap lamp that they use, I have an HPS bulb, but no fixture right now. They are not easy to find imo.
