Old School Smoker, New School Grower

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. Been smoking since the late 70's, but I am new to growing scene. I've noticed the younger generation has this science down, so I am looking forward to learning a lot. I have educated myself a lot on the different strains, but I feel I have a long way to go when it comes to growing.
I know there are people out there who are not going to like the thought of an automated grow box, but that's where I am at for various reasons. I am a medicinal patient, so I don't need a large grow. I would however, like to learn how to grow good quality cannabis for what ails me.
I look forward to learning from you all, hope your day is going great.

sounds like you got a plan friend,nothing wrong with automation,gets and keeps product for you thats all that counts,you sound really interested in learning ,try some good old soil and adventure back to your child hood days that got you here to learn,ive never run hydro,but ive grown in coco and soil,in my eyes there is no subsitute for mother earth herself,coco sucked for me because there is so much work at it,im injured myself ,so easy is best,get you some fox farm ocean forest,germ you a bean ,and wait till you can climb the bean stalk,it is also more forgiving,anyway welcome friend good luck,if you need advice just ask

Thanks for the info. I have actually thought about going soil, but right now would be a bad time for personal reasons. This is the reason I chose to use an automated grow box. Time will tell on how I'll do. I figure I'll go through a couple of grows with not the best cannabis as the end result, ya know learn from my mistakes. At some point I am sure I'll grow some satisfactory cannabis. Thanks for the welcome oldskol4evr

you got me wrong i guess,i meant run your automated one for your medicine,put 1 pot to the side of soil and learn from there,they gonna veg and flower close to the same time anyway throw a pot in there and get you some learning,utilize that power of electricity to the fullest,what could it hurt,your auto system still giving you the meds you need ,right

I have the encyclopedia of cannabis by Jorge Cervantes, so whatever I don't get from this site, I hope to get from the book.

ya its a good book,to damn heavy and akward,cant get comfortable enough to finish reading it,i emailed him asking to downsize it and just make it thicker,shit the book i got is a big ass 12x12 bookabout 1 1/2 in thick,lmao,like damn he wasnt thinking of comfort to read it,lmao

Soil growers crack me up. 99% of the time soil plants will produce < HALF the yield as the same strain grown in hydro. Ah, but which hydro, now that IS the question...

I've tried all hydro methods (including High Pressure Aero), but not UC. From them I chose the best of each and developed 2 simple DIY affordable systems

1. Bubble Bath- for starting seedlings and clones
2. Mini-Me F & D (Flood and Drain)
