AW don't mind asshole his name spells it out he always has good points but in turn always has to poo poo on others posts in making them however I ran a large 30 gallon in my hydro shop for about two years and I agree with him without the use of a microscope I have also been thru a few brewers and those pucks on a large air pump and possibly the use of a water pump and that shit just goes to town and I think gets much better air flow throughout the entire day with about the same amount of mixing and churning.

Kilo, I never shit on anyone's posts. I love the farm and ALWAYS respect my fellow farmers. I was trying to make a point that you don't NEED the tornado looking vortex to brew a good tea. Other factors are more important than the spinny vortex thing, like quality ingredients, brew time and water temperature.
Again, you don't have to shit on me. Check my posts. I've never said a bad word about anyone on the farm. Those that do get shown the door pretty quick.

Well I got her up and running! The 1.5" pipe actually seems to have worked out pretty well in the end. I took a few liberties on Oscar's design, but all in all it's pretty much the same setup.

This morning I dumped 3.5 cups of EWC, 1/2 Alfalfa meal, 4 oz of liquid sea kelp and 2 oz of unsulfured black strap molasses -all in 12 gallons of captured rainwater. The thing is cycloning like a champ and my garden is currently awaiting this delicious concoction of goodness. Can't wait to learn more about tea brewing to create some custom blends. Just picked up a copy of Teaming w/Microbes for bed time reading.

Here's some pictures of the final result:

Installed on cinder blocks. I mounted the pump on a pedestal attached to the tank stand - this caused the whole thing to be a bit tipsy when the tank was empty, so I bolted the tank down. This fixed the issue.

So clean and ready for some biology to begin!

I can't help but stare at it while it's in action - like the vortex is somehow trying to suck me in!

Thanks to all for the help in laying out a design for a simple and durable brewer. Peace.

Thanks Oscar! If I had the 2" I would have definitely gone with that, but the 1.5" seems to work pretty well also.

Question for you - do you know the brand of hose fittings you're using to connect the 3/4" tubing from the pump to the inlet? All the ones I've seen are really meant for 5/8" garden hose (even though they say they fit 3/4).

Got the hose connector at a local True Value, think green thumb or something along them lines

Hey guys, this is one bad ass thread!I'll be asking some questions for sure.first one is,I have a flat bottomed container.could I use that bulkhead slip on the underside?would it be water tight? I see it's used on the side, underneath may be a different story...

Grab a plastic carboy from your local brewing supply if you don't need a huge size cone bottom (induction) tank.

They come in 3 & 5 gallons, plus they usually don't have a handle as well so everything cyclones well and nothing gets caught up on the side to become anaerobic.

Built a few Brewers by now, and without a microscope, I've settled on an oversized pump and a couple of four inch hockey puck diffusers. Oxygenates the shit out of the water and churns It up like a mofo. Keep it simple stupid.
What I don't understand is why doesn't vortex make a 5 gallon brewer? If you're mixing a strong tea 10 to 1 , how many small growers like myself need more than a 5 gallon brewer? I know Microbeman is selling one for about $100 bucks. I trust him as much as anyone but I'll stick with my hockey pucks.
There's more to brewing a tea than getting your water to spin like a tornado. Like quality ingredients and water temperature.

Plastic carboys for brewing come in 3 & 5 gallons and have a cone shaped induction bottom. All you gotta do is cut the top off and you're good to go.

at a 10 to 1 ratio I didn't need anything larger than a 5 really, and if I need less I can just fill it halfway. :P

Sorry for my childish nature. I'm a little young at heart. :D

Just looks like a big toilet to me.
You try taking a dump in it?
Maybe it would add to the microbial diversity .

I Bet the vortex would break it up well. No more clogs. Maybe swap the house toilet out for that thing ;).

Yet again sorry!:love1:

Awesome end product btw.

Did you research 'structured water' before making this?

I used inorganic salts, but structure my pure RO water before mixing nutes, then use an electric hand mixer to vortex while mixing 5 different nutrients

So i welded a stand together last night, its a little taller then the stand thats for sale so i wont need blocks.

But now im confused by we solidaritys post, on the first page. It seems that the airline continues into the 2" pvc and goes up the vertical pipe. Can someone look at my sketch and tell me how far up the tube i must go

Hey sorry for my ignorance up front but the nut, root and foliar packs are from what brand? And what is the full name and source of ewc?

Well i read this whole thread. Its a awesome thread. Very informative. So if i may pick your brain a little... I run a couple recirculating waterfarms. Not for sure if you are familiar with them? Anyway been using hydrogaurd for res protection. Just recently started researching beenies/teas/microbes... and came across this post. I dont need a 15 gal system. I seen a few others here with smaller systems. About 4 or 5 gal would be great. Any suggestions?
those are the 2 i liked, more my size for what i need....

Here's my smaller cheaper version. Wanted to make a vortex brewer for small batch brews. This can brew up to 4 gallons at a time. I tested it with 3.5 gallons of water.

Here are a few quick shots I took the first test with it to see how the vortex was....

It's somewhat sputtering out of the tube into the bucket so I think it's one of two things. Maybe my 110 LPM pump isn't enough power or my drain at the bottom of the bucket isn't wide enough so it's taking to long to cycle water.

It's getting a somewhat vortex but not to where I want it to be. Gonna mess with it a bit till I get it to where I want it
So how did this work for you? I like it and i only need a little one like that!
