I grow mainly purples. Many strains will turn purple (leaves) but I’m always looking for the phenos that have purple flowers (it's genetic and has nothing to do with temps).

The main reasons I LOVE purple strains:

  1. SMOOTH SMOKE – calyxs are purple (loaded with anthocyanin) instead of green (loaded with chlorophyll). We all know that getting all that chlorophyll out (curing) is what makes for smoother smoke. Not much chlorophyll to get rid of in purple buds.

  2. THE LONG CURE – most green buds will start to lose strength/potency after about a year. I find purple strains do well way past that. I’ve smoked bud well over 2 years old and it just seems to get better, like a fine wine. Could be that all the anthocyanin (it’s an antioxidant) helps preserve it.

  3. MYRCENE – purple strains generally are high in myrcene (indica-type high - which is my favorite). Myrcene keeps you from absorbing too much TCH which makes for a nice, easy, relaxed stone. Sativas usually have low or no myrcene so you get blasted with all the THC which can be way too much for people already dealing with anxiety. Yes, there are some purple sativas, but vast majority of them are indica. Myrcene is also a strong pain killer and excellent muscle relaxer.

  4. LINOLOOL - purple strains tend to be higher in linolool which makes them great for many mental disorders (anxiety, PTSD, bi-polar, depression, etc.) and will boost the effect of anti-depressants (allowing for smaller dose of those anti-depressants). Linolool is also used for epilepsy and killing cancer. And it’s a serious pain killer.

  5. IT’S JUST SO DAMNED PRETTY!!!

Thanks for the info.

I grew a couple Ultimate Purple this year. This girl was so pretty and smokes great! The smell is awesome (grapey, berry and so sweet and smooth). During veg, she reeked of Fruit Stripe gum. She's just starting her fade-out in this pic. This one had lots of color (flowers turned purple near the end). Took a cutting of this one to grow again next year. The 2nd one was a green pheno. It's just OK, not very strong and doesn't make the cut for me.

Here's my PAK. She's a little thing and very pretty. Nice fade-out colors and the flowers were dark purple (you can already see some purple on the flowers in this pic). In veg, she reeks of black cherry soda. I had to sniff her every time I entered the greenhouse. Excellent med plant without too much head high (my fav for daytime). Very smooth smoke too! I have a mom of this to grow again. I hit 1 branch with my GDP pollen. Will grow those seeds next year and BX.

My Deep Purple looks like that! Love those purple trics! She gets so dark it looks black (everything - leaves and flowers). Didn't get a pic of her (growing) this year but the dry buds are pretty dark too. Here's a handful of nugs off her.

hey thanks for posting that
Will be cool to see what you get. I love seeds, you can pheno hunt till the cows come home! My UP has a giddy head high (like a sativa) but she don't have the med qualities I'm looking for (not much in the body). I crossed her with my GDP male, he gives a hefty kick and great body stone to anything I cross him with. I can't wait to grow them out. This is first year I've worked with this stain so I have no idea what I'll get in a cross.

Well I don't have any pictures yet myself but I met the Nspecta at the CSI: Humboldt booth at the Emerald Cup in Santa Rosa and per mention of my postings here on the farm @Nspecta gifted me these Slo-Flo beans!

Looks like this one's got potential! It's on next years roster.

The NSpecta at CSI: Humboldt just got back to me about the 707 seeds on the left: Dr Clean, I've now been informed is Bubba Kush x Loran's Kush Cleaner.... which, if Kush Cleaner is after all Loran's doesn't that really make this cross Bubba Kush x Long Bottom Leaf?!
