Has anyone else seen this Gringo Rasta line from FoxFarm? Why would a company create a product line with references to race and religion in the name? How about Asian Muslim Nutrients? Maybe Black Catholic Nutrients? And check out the NPK - it's just a knockoff of GenHydro Flora Series. Why bother?

with names like Lickity Split, funky broadway, super sonic plant tonic, will power and Zulu Charlie (lets throw one more race in), who wouldn't want to throw their wallet at the hydro store clerk?
keep an eye out for my new line, British Buddhist, its next to Somalian Satanist.
I had to ask, did you post at that time on purpose? lol

I'm not sure if 'Gringo' is always used as a slur. I thought it was at first, but I was never sure. The definition according to urban dict is
'If you know any mexican people then you'll know this is a non-derogatory term used to refer to US citizens. Mostly because the term "American" does not make sense to the rest of the Americans (all those people who live in the continent named "America", wich is every body from Alaska to argentina), and the word "Estadounidense" (UnitedStatean)is too long.

Folklore says it was generated when the US invaded mexico, wearing green uniforms, and the people shouted at them "Green Go Home".

With time it lost all derogatory status and was turned into the most common word to refer to any US citizen.
"Hey, que pasa pinche gringo! How is it going!!" '
That makes perfect sense, South America is technically an America

That is the dumbest definition I have ever heard. Gringo is offensive, period. Black people used to hate a word, now they use it in rap songs while trading terms of endearment. Would anybody say that word has "with time it lost all derogatory status....."

I guess it depends on the person. and the context.

like the word genius. if someone wrecks they're car because of a simple mistake, calling them genius could be offensive. If that same person saved himself a couple thousand in repairs when he found a problem with the same car bc he had a hunch, or whatever reason, its a compliment.
Of course I've been called much worse things than gringo without ever being offended, so maybe its a 'beauty in the eye of the beholder' thing... only with a dash of racism lol

I introduce myself as a gringo when I'm around predominantly Hispanics
lol isn't it fun being 'the white guy'? I have a group of close friends thats hispanic, I tended to be the only white guy for years, not that it bothered me in any way. Those guys are like family to me and I always knew I was welcome and just as much part of the group as the next guy.

Back when I was in the trades, the Latin guys always called me gringo, and I would always ask them not to. Didn't care for it, but not personally offended. The ones that continued pissed me off. Gotta roll with the punches.

That's just a way of them marketing and letting their customers know that this line has been made specifically for cannabis. It's not a big deal and honestly... I don't think we're living in a world with racism going on anymore (except trump and his comments).
Instead of complaining about the picture or the name of the product I would use it and let people know about the results.
Just saying. Cheers

Depends on what u consider racism.
- bunch of kids in high school talking shit about each other's race and getting in small fights.
- or still having slavery going on and black or any other color of people not being able to have opinions

Of course it will but obviously it's nothing like it used to be.
I'm just saying as a person who travels more than 2-3 times a year to different countries. People don't act like you don't belong there or you're taking advantage of this or that in their country

They are but kids making fun of each other is just something that happens all the time and it's just during that stage of their lives. Ever since I graduated I have not seen a single case of racism. In high school i would hear it left and right (kids making fun of muslims or other religions)

I never made fun of any of my black friends for being black when i was a kid. But they did make fun of me for being white. Lol.

People forget what racism actually is. Let me define for you guys......

rac·ism
ˈrāˌsizəm/
noun
  1. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
    "a program to combat racism"
synonyms: racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, casteism
"Aborigines are the main victims of racism in Australia"
    • the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
      noun: racism
      "theories of racism

The key part here is putting a race above another. So when friends are BS'ing about race, that's not racism. Like saying white people can't jump, not racist. Black people can jump, not racist. If you said black people are much better than white people because they can jump, racist. People are a little too uptight these days, and need to learn context. IMO of course. And yes, racism exists each and every day, unfortunately. Remember, the only words that can hurt you are the words you allow to hurt you.

I saw a IG post saying something along the lines of: "The boat doesn't sink because of the water surrounding the boat, it sinks when it lets the water in." Same with feelings, words and emotions. Ultimately, you choose what you want to effect you, as strange as that may seem.
