buy some super soil,already mixed from ....build a soil....you cant go wrong,follow instructions dude.only water right through...over watering is the only thing to watch out for..feel the weight of the pots full,wet,then dry..always check weight,let em dry out before soaking em again....this makes em grow well..

will run out of herb today, so im just gonna be grateful i have herb today.. aww, see glass is half empty! laughs.

but i guess im doing ok.. much better than last week. but i will bitch about being sore. hah. and this weed does nothing for sore muscles. hah.

sad part is i use to love that feeling of sore muscles after a work out.. but man these muscles are crushing my spine.. where they did the operation.. ju8st gonna have to keep exercising and the muscle will heal them self. or that is the logic im going with till i cant walk from the exercise. hah.

jipp imho, you would do well to follow kieks advice re: soil. Not difficult to do. I use a super soiled based growing medium. The best soil ever! If you plan on growing in soil?
A very good choice for just a plain soil is as I said before is plain pro-mix. They make different types, but stick with plain pro-mix. Only contains peat moss and perlite. Then build the soil with that. Then you know what you are working with. There are many soil mixes available, out there that you can mix 1/2 and 1/2 to start. That's another alternative.
You must have a very good soil, no exceptions. Another thing you must factor in is your water. It may contain minerals and or salts that could effect the plant at a cellular level, causing lock out of nutes that will devastate your grow. I learned that the hard way. Yes I am preaching, lol, but for your best interest.
Keep it basic and build on that.
I don't know a thing about other growing systems like hydro, coco.
All growing methods have pros and cons, and will drive you crazy because every bay it seems a new miracle product comes out that does this or that. I have a shelf full of it.
I think some of it helps but it is basically all the same thing or do the same... IMO.
Which way you choose to go is your choice, and someone here I am sure will help you every step of the way.
I know you will be successful, if you start out slow ,small and build from that.

I understand that! Since you have the nutes go for it. It is a small investment, and being on a limited income myself I understand where you are coming from.
