I hAve been been looking at a bunch of different rosin press kits, can people please give their recommendations and advice? I want to press mainly flower maybe some bubble hash and possibly keef. I am new to making rosin but have done a bit of reading and watched a number of videos. Any insight would be great, I don’t want to break the bank but want to be able to press a reasonable amount and have a good quality product. Thanks in advance

When it comes to presses the more rectangular the plate, the better. I like a 2"x10" or 2"x8" plate size. A way to think of it is you want to minimize the distance the rosin needs to travel to escape out onto the parchment. You also probably want to get one that can do 5-10 tons of pressure to maximize your yield. Pressing flower is great but once you get to pressing hash its a game changer. If you lived in LA I'd tell you to come check out where I work because we got a few presses but none of them are available online. I mean I know sasquash is popular but I've never used them and I know Pure Pressure is amazing but they're pricey. I heard Nugsmasher is supposed to carry reasonably priced presses.

How much bud do you anticipate pressing out of your harvest? Oz's? And what kind of money you willing to part with? Several ways to go about it.

3-5 lbs annually (outdoor) and prob 1 lb a month approx and at a minimum (indoor) flower mostly.
Wow, that is a lot to me. What the guy from LA says is true, whatever you choose, long heat plates, usually 3" x 8" or 9", is what I have seen on presses that I might consider buying. (PRICE) Larger presses I've seen priced up to 10k. I would want an automatic if I was going to do that much. I bought a Dulytek press, which has a leverage arm and lock down for a max. of about 1k lbs hand press. It's fine for just me, and I am finding that reducing filter bag size doesn't reduce yield like you think it would, it does but not much. I only press flower. Have you looked at the ones mentioned? PurePressure and Nugsmasher? PurePressure starts to get expensive.

Squish hash, buy some heat plates build your own press. Flowers are a waste of time unless you intend on buying some serious industrial pressing equipment. Arguably the hash equipment is too. I wouldn't consider Sasquash or Pure Pressure industrial. 420 novelty equipment. Old tech, people were squishing in the 70s.

Just trying to find an easy way with out using solvents. Making bubble hash takes forever, and just trying to make another product I can enjoy and that my friends will want. I want to get into some type of extracting but I am still in the research phase. Rosin seems super simple and not using solvent you can keep your organic statement if you run organic. We dry sift and make pucks and have made hash both dry and bubble. This year I was going to add a rosin press. I will most likely diy- that being said this doesn’t seem like too bad of a unit. I already have an air compressor I could use to run it, thoughts?

Good price point, too wide. I'd like it if it was 8x4. This was on the suggested items

If you don't like making bubble hash you shouldn't be squishing. Squishing flowers is for the birds.

I get up to 25% yield pressing flower with a cheaper heat press. You sound like you have no clue about pressing flowers. That yield is very good return. Rosin is every bit as good and as potent as BHO, bubble hash, and others. I have had it all. And, it is very fast, simple, and easy. I can press out enough to last me a month, in about 2 hours. This is a sample of 75 micron rosin, pressed at 190 degrees for 4 minutes. It will obliterate you!

Yeah i've not had any issues pressing flowers with the same press. Even though its only 1000lbs it seems to work just fine for the small amounts i require for my ecig liquid. I don't dab so maybe my requirements are on the low end but for me personally it works just fine. I spent $300 shipped to my door and couldn't be happier. You of course will want a bigger press due to the volume you plan to run but I wouldn't deter you from buying the same press I and RuralFarmer use. It's built like a tank and works well. Im sure pressing bubble hash would be more pure and potent but for me thats just an extra step I can't justify at this point. Either way good luck on your quest and i'll be checking in to see how you progress :)

So what press are you using? Can you help explain what needs to be done for this to be used in ecig carts once you have the rosin made?

That’s one I am considering for diy. Making bubble , I never sai I disliked its just a lot of work. I have several 5 gal systems, but was going to go to a 35g system, instead of that I decided to go for rosin. I think your confused as it’s def not for the birds. You must be on the west coast, cause things are a bit diffferent here on the east coast.

We are both using a "Dulytek" press, goggle it. Pressing in the 70's was not known by 99.9% of users, and there were no presses or anything to use back then. The knowledge of pressing buds likely goes back centuries if the truth was known. But its only in the past 3 to 5 years has the knowledge become widely known. And, has equipment popped up to support this method of obtaining pure cannabinoids from flowers. What I treasure about it, is that it is 100% all natural.

There are some good youtube videos about making vape liquid with rosin. I just prefer dabs. I bought my press on 420, and got it for 279 delivered if I remember. If I were going to be pressing pounds, like you plan, I would probably buy Pure Pressure and never look back LOL.

Sure no problem. Once the rosin is made you just need a solution to suspend it in and a double boiler to bring the solution to temp at which the rosin will melt and meld with the solution.

What I do is put a pot of hot water on the stove or hot plate (150 degrees from my tap) and put a shot glass in the middle.

Then depending on how much rosin I intend to use I’ll put roughly a 1:1 ratio of propolene glycol (food grade kosher) in the shot glass and then add my rosin. Make sure to keep the temps of the water below 170. I try for a 150-160 degree water temp but it does drift up to the mid 160s from time to time.

Then just stir it with your blunt tipped syringe until the rosin is all melted and is a uniform consistency. Once it looks good (about 5 minutes or so) I then turn off the hot plate and suck up the liquid into the syringe and inject my CCELL brand carts.

Make sure to buy the ones with CCELL on the side as the knock offs leak and don’t work nearly as well. Then cap it off and it’s ready to use.

If you are using a fresh cart besure to prime it first.

To do this you simply put your fingers over the airway inlet holes and suck on it then let go of the holes and twist the cap off. You’ll see air bubbles rise through your liquid. Do this until it stops bubbling and you’re good to go.

Priming is important on any ecig cart as the tiny air pockets inside the atomizer will keep the solution from reaching the element and give you a really harsh burnt taste. Once you do that the cart is pretty much garbage as it will continue to taste this way.

If you don’t want to prime them just letting them sit for a couple days will also allow the fluid to prime the cart naturally. Then vape away.

Hope this little guide helps. It’s super easy to do and takes minutes to perform.

Just don’t use any vegetable glycerin as it will make your solution seperate and then it’s garbage.

Super helpful thanks a ton!

Any recommendations on brands of propolene glycol? So many choices - what are people using?

When you say 1:1 ratio, so 1g of rosin to 1ml of propolene glycol? How does the ratio work solid vs liquid?

When you say heat plate, are you saying you bypass the double boil from the process and just heat the hot plate to 169 and do the mix at that temp?

Yes 1gram of concentrate to 1 ml of PG. However I have heard of folks using less (and more) so you’ll have to play around with it for your own taste.

I meant to say hot plate. You can also use your stove on super low heat. In fact on my hot plate I need to have it just below the “low” setting.

You will still need a shot glass in a pot of hot water as that keeps the shot glass from getting too hot. Basically it’s just a way to heat up the solution slowly.

Thanks, im versed In double pot boiling- not an expert but heaven done it a few tunes for different things over the years. I appreciate the experience your sharing. Having grown outdoors for decades and only just recently indoors again (and only a few years of that a decade ago). Really only made hash, Kief products, some tinctures and baked goods- butters and water hash. Just diving into the dab and vapeable concentrates.
