So I decided to breed a few TrainWreck plants I have, they are only a month old so I still have some time but I was wondering if I could obtain some knowledge from y’all. I top the majority of my plants so would it still be a good idea to top the ones I breed or just let Mother Nature do her beautiful thing? Also should nutrient feeding stay the same as in N-P-K ratio throughout life cycle? Should there be more of a certain nutrient to assist in energy out towards seed production? What are some qualities that others look for in males? Also could Use any other tips as this is my first time breeding, wish me luck in the months to come!

You can top them if you want it makes no difference. No special feeding regime is needed. The seeds will grow and mature just fine.

One thing you might want to do is pollenate just a few buds and not the whole plant unless you want a shitload of seeds. What I used to do was pollentate just a few buds on a branch and then cover those buds with a clear plastic bag and rubber band them so they don’t spread the pollen. Leave that on for a couple days then take the bag off and spray it down with water. Water will kill the remaining pollen. Then grow it out as normal.

Just besure to let the seeds mature on the bud until they are ready.

As for breeding genetics there’s a couple different train of thoughts. Many hacks just pick a male and go to town. Others will take that male, clone it, then make seeds. Then grow out those seeds to see what traits were passed to the offspring and then take the best male(s) and keep those for future projects. Of course this means you’ll be growing out lots of plants and keeping lots of clones until you narrow it down. However this is the best method and one that many prominent breeders use. But it requires patience, space and a little luck.

Anyhow good luck. I’ve done a few crosses in my day and had a lot of fun. You never know what you’ll end up with but if you use two good parents there’s a better than average chance the offspring will be decent as well. But you never know until you grow those out. It’s much easier to do this with just one strain at a time until you narrow down which male(s) you are going to keep.

I hope I’d didn’t confuse you. If I did just ask and I’ll clarify. Good luck!

Sounds like a cool process !

Yeah it is actually but very time consuming and easy to mess up along the way. You really have to take your hat off to some of these breeders who put in the time and effort to deliberately create new (and improved) strains and not just toss pollen around and call it a day. That's why certain fathers are highly regarded and guarded. Years ago Breeder Steve had a grapefruit BX that was the father of Sweet Tooth #3 (F1) and was also loaned out to several other breeders including DJ Short and others to use in their breeding programs. That's why I (and many others) always hold some of the old school breeders in such high regard.

not many give to much advice on male selection. 90 % are bottle necking with a male... Bad bad bad, I didnt use this method for years until I saw some of epitome work and male selections so I incorporated it...

But it all depends on your goals thru the males breeding performances but with no proven seed bank and no proven male breeders so you have many yrs of testing to find good males and to find proven breeder seed stock. otherwise your pollen slinging (thrown shit against the wall to see if you find a keeper male and not breeding for specific traits.
if you dont start genetic designation classification on your seed selections now your wasting your time. you'll just be slinging pollen , not breeding, your just praying for good female pheno, thats not breeding...

Stay away from poison. Feminized plants. the seeds and plants will get you and your pets sick Cancer and other DNA disrupts

If you find a seed bank with genetic designations like mine it will save you decades of breeding.
