Grow Log 10/15/18 (tent)

The last RNK finally showed female. Hey, 1 out of 4 ain't bad. Schaah, riiight, lol. I'm happy with one. That's all I need.

Continuing the 50-60ppm colloidal silver misting on the lowest branch of RNK and BIC#4. Haven't decided what to do with BIC#5 yet. Probably leave it alone so I have something to smoke when they're done. Will be pollinating the RNK & BIC#4 with 50/50 RNK & BIC pollen. I've decided on Royal Banana and Banana Royale for the X strain names. Will be buying more new strains for "X"ing next season. I really really want some Durban Poison to throw into the mix, and maybe some type of Haze to keep the RNK giants. If I could find some Royal Dutch, that would be bomb, but I haven't had any luck with that search yet.

Topped the RNK. I need the BIC to catch up for lighting purposes.

Have the male RNK still sitting on my deck because I can't bring myself to chop him yet. Such a beautiful plant and my favorite strain ever. I tried for so long to secure these genetics that I've become very attached to this strain. Oh well, I'll clip him before his balls drop. Until then, he's a nice addition to the deck.

Gonna have a good look at that bowl, the price is right and no better review than from someone who's actually using it! Thank you!

No problem man, you're welcome.

I really like mine and I think if I continue to treat it right it will last many more seasons. Even if it did break on me, I'd just buy another one or find/build parts to fix it. Oh, and I know it's not cool to market them, but if it's your own private herb, this thing will kief the sh*t outta the buds if you to spin them longer. I sifted some beautiful stuff from BIC#1 with the 150 micron pollen sifter (light ligh beige). I'll sift again with my 100 micron screen and turn it into pure sugar (almost white), yum!

Thinking about running some 100 micron through my rosin press in 90 micron squish bags. It'll be "one hit quit" rosin. I totally looove my press. That Royal Nepal and Orange Creamsicle rosin last year was prime. Made around 100gr of RNK rosin. It was puttin serious tokers on their a$$.

Took down the the OC this morning. I didn't get pics yet. It was already late morning and hot. I don't do well in the heat after cool nights, so I needed to get it done and back into the shade. The Orange Creamsicle is so fragrant my eyes were burning and nose was running. It felt like someone was misting orange juice into my eyes. It's been an hour and my eyes are still irritated. As soon as they stop burning I'll go get some pics of it on the racks.

Sh*t! I have never smelled weed so strong, and it wasn't like she was overwhelming before the cut. She was stinky, but normal strength "stinky pot" stinky. But when I took my little Fat Max sheetrock saw to her it was like cutting into a super ripe, plump, citrus fruit, and that mist comes out and burns your eyes. It was insane. I could like, puree that stalk and add sugar and it would probably taste just like orange juice. It was so bad my teeth hurt and still taste like orange peel.

I'm thinking of growing one in a little indoor tent this winter. It will be clean enough, without mites on it, to make tea with the sugar leaves. I'll hand trim them and add them to a fruity chai. Yum! ...but I cant handle the thought of brewing all those nasty mite carcasses on that outdoor OC, iiick. I might also try using the stalk from a tent OC for flavoring in cooking or tea. It WAS where all that smell was coming from. Not so much the flowers, they smell more like a sour pear. No wonder the pests love this strain. It's like candy.

Grow Log 10/15/18 #1 (1st harvest)

Orange Creamsicle in the drying shed. Had to air it out before I could see in there.

This harvest has been brought to you by...

STANLEY Fat Max
20181015 141245

...This sheetrock saw has taken down over 60 huge plants and countless branches, and is still as sharp as the day I bought it. It will turn a 3hr harvest into 45min. It's my go to harvest tool, and unlike pruners, there's no moving parts to clog or break. The only drawback is it's sharp as sh*t and my clutzy a$$ always gets a nip from it. I need to buy a sheath for it because it's always when I'm pulling it out of my pocket that it bites me.

Because it just looks like a trippy camera effect, I wanted to explain that the flowers to the right side of the top pic are actually that turquoise color. My phones camera won't focus on them for some reason like even it thinks it's a shadow or aberration. Same thing happened when I tried to get shots of the perfectly ripe ones yesterday. The tips were turquoise and the phone camera would only start to focus where they turned green further back on the cola. So I didn't post them and just deleted them from my photos. It appears that this is what the strain does on the day of the apex of ripeness. Pretty cool. I'll just look for that the next time I grow it. Talk about taking the guesswork out of it.

I flushed BIC#1 heavily this evening for good measure. Going to chop her tomorrow.

I learned something interesting about how the flowers grow by waiting patiently for the best day to harvest and trying to be as observant as possible. First, I've been writing the plural of calyxs, "calyxes", and it's actually "calyces". On to my discovery...

I know understand why foxtails are a sign of foofy (airy) buds. I've carefully inspected the flowers on each plant 3-4 times a day. Often taking multiple sets of daily pictures. I've also been paying close attention to how the preflower and bottom bud calyces are developing.

I saw that as the rosettes of new calyces began to stack and plump on top, the already plump lower calyces started elongating and opening into something more leaflike. I'm guessing it's the mechanism the plant uses to release and disperse the seeds. When it's sensi, all this does is fluff out the cola and dry out the inside of the calyces. So, what we gain on the top in bud mass we lose twice as much on the bottom. Luckily my BIC#1 flowers only have an elongated calyx here and there, so no loss yet.

From now on I'll be paying more attention to the bottom of the flowers than the top.

Will post up pics of it tomorrow. Tonight I'll post up the regular set of Grow Log garden pics.

R.I.P Banana Ice Cream #1
20181016 092235

I've heard there's a storm coming early next week. What I thought was caterpillar damage was from that white fluffy water mold. It's not bad yet but they won't survive another rain. I'll flush all but the Idunnoes a few times this week and harvest this weekend.

Trying something different because I was getting leaf burn from the lights. Raised the lights to the top and turned the double up to 100%. Time to see what the CXB3590 100w x2 can do. I also topped the BICs. In the last day since I raised the lights growth has slowed slightly but the leaves are no longer burned and and the tip curl is going away. Will drop the fixtures down in increments till I find the sweet spot.

Four days into flip. Topped the BICs two days ago. Lights are a few inches lower. I'm hoping the raised lights will more effectively use the reflective mylar to reach the lower branches (might remove the 90deg concentrator lenses on the next grow. Continuing to spray colloidal silver on two lower branches to promote female pollen flowers.

Trich check to see if they're all ripe enough for this weekend's harvest...

BIC#3, ready
20181017 084118

BIC#2, I think I should hold off on cutting this weekend. Of the three she still needs the most cook time. If the rain isn't supposed to be bad I'll leave her up.
20181017 085009
20181017 084950

Banana Crack, definitely on the cusp. Still has a lot of healthy stigma but they're mostly on the sun side. Had some mold on the stock from a broken branch during the last storm but I sprayed with potassium salts and Nuke Em. Seems to have done the trick. No cotteny water mold in either her or BIC#2 colas, so unless there's supposed to be super heavy rain or hail from the coming storm I'm at 50/50 on cutting them.

Shielding to keep the colloidal silver off the other branches and out of the soil.

Is anyone else having problems getting on the forum in Chrome? I'm getting notices of "err too many redirects" on both my phones and in my Chrome browser on my PC. This is the first time I've used Microsoft Explorer in years. When I checked "IsItDownRightNow" earlier today they reported that the whole website was down. I can't be the only one having problems but I didn't see anything posted by anyone when I just checked. It wouldn't be a problem but I access the site with my phones usually because my PC eats up my data. I hate it when sh*t starts malfunctioning for no apparent reason. Especially when it's someone else's error and I'm powerless to fix it.

ROFL, I doubt anyone at Google gives a flying sh*t about Logic. Sounds like he (or his site dev) used the wrong, or forgot to use, meta tags. Or you've used that wording before and it got incorporated into your personal search algorithm. I think clearing your cookies or search history will solve that, maybe. Still funny though. (It's been a long time since I built a website so things may work differently now, but the basics should still be the same.)
