First Grow - Seed - 4x4 - 630 Lec

Hello all, this is my first grow. As the title says I am starting from seed in a 4x4 tent using a 630 watt sunsystem lec. I will be running coco/perlite mix with Jacks nutrients and added microbes and other beneficial ingredients. I am popping 39 regular seeds, 18 from Cult Classics "Eiffel Tower" (Paris Og x Freshies), 11 Daffy from a local, and 10 Duck Hunter (Daffy x Barking Dog) also from a local.
I started my seeds in jiffy soil pods and used RO water with half strength 3-2-1 jacks formula with recharge beneficial and a touch of silica. PH rested at 6.1.

No need for pictures quite yet.

I'm assuming I will get 18 - 23 males leaving me with 16 - 21 females, out of those there will be a couple weaklings. To determine sex I plan on taking clones of each plant and immediately putting the clones into flower with my extra light to tell me male or female. I am hoping to be left with around 16 plants and will hopefully run 3 - 5 gallon smart pots

Thanks, I grow veggies hydroponically for a living so I am hoping my knowledge will transfer!

I am planting into coco which is soil(ish), but I personally have more experience with soil when it comes to seeding so I chose jiffy pods. I'm not sure that it would make much of a difference for sprouting seeds. I use peat/polymer plugs and pro-mix flats at work for seeding/cloning. I just recently used Rockwool for the first time for some greenhouse tomatoes that will go into a recirculating dwc.

Your gonna have to flip from sprout if you plan to fit 16 in there. Technically you may be able to fit the pots but airflow n all gonna be real limited with 16 in a 4x4. I got 4 covering a 4x5 now
Especially in coco. They’ll explode in growth early on.
By all means go for it I’m just giving you heads up that it’s gonna be a lot more work than say running 5-10 max in there. And overall yield probably be the same. Still have to flip early too. I vegged 4 for 25 days n wall to wall a 4x4.
I think 16 5 gal won’t even fit in 4x4 that’s touching each other then think of it that way. The outside of your pot is as wide as it can go.
I think a good rule is to not go over 1 plant per sq ft.
and that’s pretty tight.
Picture it 1 sq ft. That’s all the girth the plant can have before it’s in another’s way. 4x4 means you got 4 sq ft. No room between that’s swift touching each other.
Do you want your canopy limited to 1 sq ft per plant?
I seriously think you’d fill that with 4 females. In the 3 gallons. Save some money and seeds. I treat seeds like gold. I clone everything. I get 10-20 plants out a $10 fem seed.
Oh and I’m running 3-4 gal fabric pots. So small pots. But coco. Mix. The 4 gallons are monsters but 3 gal look healthier. And 3 is enough for good size plant.
Make sure if brick coco no bugs stored in it.
Start yourself an ipm now. Make it so no bug. wants to be near that tent ( room whatever) Essential oils , neem oil bugs can’t stand mint eucalyptus tea tree oil lavender oil all of them serve a purpose. Orange oil too.
Now if you do flip real early n run single cola plants ( no topping) you technically have a sog just not from clone. You could put a bunch of say 12 inch plants on table and blast em with light. But def not getting that many 5 gallons in there. 3s. Get cheap fabric pots. Again save money.as you go you’ll find a million things you’d like to spend money on. Hold it for now. Smartpot is a name. Fabrics just as good for about $1-2 a pot and washing machine friendly. ( after you rinse the heavy dirt out.

Jiffy’s used to be my go to. Now I use root riots. They’re like sponges tuck seed or clone in n let it go. They don’t need to swell up they stay perfect cube shape to drop in cell trays. Cost a little more but they are real easy to use n work just as good if not better than the jiffy’s.

Thanks for the well thought out reply, I will be running 3-gallon pots, not 5, but honestly, it depends on plant count. My reason for running so many is because this is basically a mini pheno-hunt. Once I find something I like I will probably run 6-9 plants in 7 gallon pots.

I will make the 16 plants work, as for airflow, if my total air exchange in the tent is relatively high I shouldn't have any issues. I can always mount fans if I need too. Whatever it is I will make it work, gotta live and learn.

IPM management is something I have been working on since before I set my tent up. I plan on spraying until a week or so before bloom then releasing predatory mites. I work at a hydroponic farm (non-cannabis) and am always afraid to bring bugs in, although we spray an assortment of things and keep critters under control.

lmao, asked a few different growers and they all said hps for yeild, and cmh or lec for flavor. I decided on flavor, I'm sure a 4x4 can support my habit.

6-9 is still overkill for a 4x4. I run 2 ScrOG And fill it. I could run 4 with super low veg time, any more and you will have issues. Just saying from experience and that light is going to bring the heat. Good luck but much of what I was going to say was said above. Good luck!

Mr jujitsu what kinda yields you run 4x4 plots right? I seen somewhere but can’t find it. I need to find your thread. I seen them monster plants. I’m trying first scrog with 4

I get between 1.8 and 2 gpw consistently with my qb setup. I may beat that this round. 2# per harvest or more in my 4x4, 95% being premo. This run I’m looking to get 2% or less of bleh and 98% of solid grade A. If you have questions or want photos or specifics on what’s worked for me feel free to Pm me
