Second Grow / 3 finger leaves above cotyledons

So this was my second grow since my first one failed due to my lack of experience and bad decisions :( I live in a 3rd world country and sadly what you get here is not anything near quality. Its nearly impossible to find sinsemilla weed so there is an abundance of seeds. The differences between sativa and indica are barely known here so there is no variety. Most of the weed is indica dominant hybrids so I more or less have an idea of what I'm growing. Whats interesting is that one of the seedlings has 3 fingered leaves at the first set of foliage right above the cotyledons. I found this super interesting but cant find anything similar online. In the image below, its the seedling on the top left. I just wanna know if anyone has seen anything like this and what I should expect when the plant begins to mature. Atm all the plants are around 9 days old.

Interesting. I’ve never seen a plant come out without single leaf above the cotydelon before three leaves.
Great news on sinsemillan pot. It’s within the control of you, the grower. You just have to make certain to remove males from your plants before the have a chance to pollinate.

It happens, just like three cotyledons sometimes. Use very little water on your seedlings especially using storage bags to increase humidity or you will be on your third grow soon. Wait til the pot feels light, almost dry, before watering. Good luck.

Yep..I just had one with alternating nodes! 3 weeks old and alternating nodes..WTF?? I like mutants! (hopefully a girl..Oni Strawpicanna)

Had twins a few months back too (BOG Sour Grape)..I killed the smaller one and waiting for "it" to show sex..(Thinking male )

What I was trying out was putting water in the bags and letting the soil absorb it from the drainage holes. I was thinking this would not only help the roots go downwards to where the water is but also to keep the soil moist without having to water it myself.

Do you think selfing or crossing the mutant would have its offspring with alternating nodes too? Cuz depending on how the three finger seedling turns out I’m planning on preserving its genetics.

What I was trying out was putting water in the bags and letting the soil absorb it from the drainage holes. I was thinking this would not only help the roots go downwards to where the water is but also to keep the soil moist without having to water it myself.

I haven't heard of that but I wouldn't do it as you can set yourself up for some major issues that way because you really don't have control of the amount of moisture, I don't believe it's good practice to keep your soil that wet all the time, would recommend a wet/dry cycle

I’ve read on just about any platform that cannabis needs wet soil just as much as it needs dry soil.

So before you water, you want to let the soil dry out more than somewhat. Keyword I see often is “alarmingly light” means water the plant.

What's the worst that would happen if I continue keeping the soil moist? I'm not too scared of root rot developing cuz the soil barely compacts and I think the roots are getting enough air.

A more knowledgeable person could help with that but afaik its a culprit of root rot and your soil can have issues as well. The salt (from the nutes) will buildup in the soil and cause nutrient lockout from the roots which ultimately leads to ph soil issues because it will hold X chemicals because the roots can’t take them in.

And I imagine it causes moldy patches of soil. Dead ecosystem patches of soil. Roots getting air but being in “dead” soil patches. Bad for growth.

Your roots would drown from lack of oxygen if it's soil.u need proper wet dry cycles wen growing in soil but in coco it's the opposite, u have to water everyday but your in soil so lift your pot wen wet to get an idea of how heavy it is wen wet then let it dry out until the pot feels light wen you lift it.dont let it dry out to the extent your plants start to droop.u just have to find a balance.your plants roots prefer soil that's only just moist and youl see the most explosive growth while the soils just moist rather than totally wet.

Who said I didnt listen? I took the advice, I was even planning on starting to do a water/dry cycle from now on. I was just asking if there are any other problems that could arise besides roots lacking oxygen. I just want to get the full picture.

Are those clear pots, like soda bottles? If they do get overwatered, the leaves droop, get yellow and the plant dies. Biggest problem for new growers is overwatering seedlings. Another problem for wet soil is it attracts the wrong kind of insects. Just my experience.

Yeah I cut up water bottles and melted drainage holes through the plastic. I'll transplant them when they get bigger of course, what I like about clear pots is that I could more or less see root development.

I assure u you no mater how loose your soil is if it's kept permanently wet it will severely impact your harvest and probably kill your plants.thats coming from experience in growing in soil every single day for 15 years ,but if you think you know more than that on your first grow or two you crack on,just don't come crying with a thread entitled "why have my plants died" wen they do eventually die ,which they will if u don't heed the advice given.
