from seed to bud to mom??? choosing mothers?

when your growing a new strain from seed and trying to choose a mom whats the best method to see the results and still be able to have that individuale available as a mother? my expierience with reveging has been hit and miss as ive had some girls never really fully recover. they would grow mutant 3 finger leaves and produce airy mutant buds when cloned...that sucked believe me! the bud i reveged was a monster ak47 from serious but she just didnt respond well to the reveg.

OR are you guys keeping labled clones from each female your trying out and just letting them veg till you can flower and see the results from the host plant???

i keep seeing posts from people choosing moms but it seems like they are making the decision during veg wich doesnt make much sence to me since the end result is not indicative of the veg stage....

personally it all smoke test
take clones in vege, keeping them identified
flower seed plant
smoke test all the plants
clone from the clones and flower the original clones
now is wen i make the desicion
smoking all the diif phenos eliminating the undesirables
i find flowering 2 times before making desicion a must

exactly bro - being organized is the key - if you start with 10 beans (or 10 clones) - name them all A-K - then veg them out keeping notes of what you see/like or dislike about each one.

you can cull the males (if not using fem seeds) or put them somewhere safe if you may want some pollen from them later.

after plants are sexed take cuttings from each one name them a-1, a-2 etc.

take more notes - which ones rooted the fastest, node spacing, if you topped how they responded etc.

bloom them bitches and yep you guessed it more notes. how fast did they stack buds, how early you saw trich development, did some have issues with pests or mold and others right next to them were fine etc.

plus write your physical observations of diff phenotypes - smell, color of hairs and leaves, one may look like the dad and one the mom etc.

harvest them, you may want to note how fast they trim, and keep each one separate when you dry so you can compare the dry weight.

cure them - more notes are good - next comes the smoke report - my fav part.

then you know what pheno you want and what ones you can scrap.

thanks bros. i guess that could work out pretty good... you get a 2 month veg going on with your potential moms then flower those bitches for a mega harvest (taken clones first of couorse). then! i could be pulling monsters every 2 months after that! i like it!
