First Pro Mix run, need info please?!

Thank you in advance; this is the first time I've used pro-mix, I'm going to use it as one part of a ffof mix

However I'm also going to put one plant in it by itself to see how I like it?

I would appreciate any tips, tricks, watering techniques and other info for using Pro mix by itself because if it works out it could become my go-to media?

You want promix hp.

This says canada only for the 9 month slow telease fertilizer and america gets a starter charge only.

The hp used to have the starter charge but doesnt anymore.

Thanks for pointing that out LOL! :) I was just running around looking at the bail and it doesn't say anything about the slow release on it and I was standing there scratching my head LOL I missed the Canada part but after I didn't see it on the bag yet again I went back and reread and did spot it thanks again

.. next time I'll probably just get the plain ole bale of peat moss & make my own adjustments

It's $10 less for 50% more by volume for the generic bale'o plain peat :/

Thanks, I'm going to use it as one part in a five or six part mix

but I'm also going to try it by itself with one Romberry to see how it goes

I was wondering about its pH, ppm and what have you, how it holds water, how much perlite to add Etc.

I'll probably do a slurry but I could save myself some time if anybody already knows any of this info?

Just remember there is no lime in a peat bale. Or wetting agent.

It says Limestone? I read about wetting it first, I've used it before in my tomates, just never indoors!

I guess my biggest questions is do I water it like cocoa or do I water it more like a soil?

Oic! I'm going to mix ocean Forest, compost, worm castings, perlite and some of the peat moss. I'm not sure of the ratio yet but I think it'll be two parts Ocean Forest to one part of each of the others

Eventually I'm quitting ocean Forest I was talking to the Kellogg's soil guy on the phone today and I'll probably give their product to try next

ocean Forest is up around thirty bucks now on Amazon, it went up two bucks since I bought a bag last week!!!

I don't buy stuff if it's overpriced like that, in my opinion many companies are gouging the Cannabis industry and I'm not going to be part of that if I can avoid it

Another example is the price of GH newts, that went through the roof in the few years I was using it too! So now I use Master Blend, great product and it will probably last me forever, and at a much cheaper cost

I've got a hydro background So Pro mix shouldn't be an issue just take a couple runs to tune it in, I'll run a couple romberries to get the hang of it they can take anything, even my learning curve believe me!

Unadultered Promix on it's own is pretty much all I use. Ask me anything. To your question of whether to treat it like soil or coco, Water it like soil watered every 3-4 days or as it dries up.
But feed it regularly like coco with occasional water only feeds to clear excess nutrients. Promix does have a CEC so it stores nutrients and can feed a plant fed just water for a couple weeks. I've found feeds between 1-1.3 ec ph'd to 6.1-6.3 give me the best results. Some strains will eat more though up to 1.4-1.5ec during stretch. And I'm a big fan of feed feed water cycles in promix.

I'll further what Mimed pointed out though, promix is a better grade of peat and has a quality agricultural surfactant added to it. Regular peat does not perform nearly the same. You cant really even make your own promix for much less than you can buy it for honestly.

Its the shipping that makes it so expensive. I bet you have a greenhouse nearby that sells a potti g mix. Feed and farm stores sell garden soil and cheaper fertilizer usually.

I've got several girls getting up-potted soon and I'm going to do one in promix all by itself with only added perlite,

What % perlite would you recommend adding to the promix? Thanks

I used promix for some time. The HP big bale available at hydro stores.

It needed no extra perlite. Works perfectly as is.

my question is:

Approximately what percent of the makeup of a pro mix mixture would you recommend be perlite? (eg . 20%, 25%, 33% Etc.)

I used a similar mix my first grow. FFOF,Alaskan humus, earthworm castings,boos compost,peat,perlite. It ended up being much to hot. And I had some lockout issues. I’ve since moved to a DYI mix of peat n perlite with a bit of Alaskan humus. In a 5-4-1 ratio. I use a drain to waste setup and it works fine. I didn’t add any limestone to it and so far no issues. It’s my own promix. I’ll make some adjustments with an amendment or two I believe but overall for a drain to waste hydro setup it’s great. I water every other day and at times everyday they’re just finishing week 1 so they’ll start to eat more soon and the 3g fabrics will take 1/3 gal. day thru flower I’m guessing. The plants seem to thrive in it and I just started some tribus. Im hoping it’ll take my girls to a new happiness.
