when i was gorrila growing ,i always sprinkled blood meal around the area, deer and many others dont like the smell,i have right at 45 deer that come to the fence for there goodies twice a day, only way i keep them off and out of my gardens is feeding them,we have 2 that will let mama pet there velvet horns right now hahaah,i have had quite a bit experience watching them grow ,fight ,sick and daily patterns of feeding and what not,my fence on the top by house were we hand feed is only 5 ft tall, one jumped it in 3 years been here,if you want to keep deer out of your garden ,this i can say is the only thing that works hands down, jumping isnt even a factor, but the landing is,i put my containers right at 4 ft from fence, they dont look at what they have to jump but instead look for what they will land on,ive watched them case the [place and fences out like a bank robber hahaahh, they wont jump it,containers are too close.
next year plan for this, use reg seeds and plant a bunch, build a make shift ring from sticks and twigs, dont use foilage they will eat it and stomp right threw the brush to get to it,with no leaves ,no food if you dig,so not even wanted,as the brush settles add more, like a ring of fire with a access to get in and out, dont put plants together, they will clean them out, deer are very lazy and always shoot for condensed area to feed
