Every single manufacturer does that. It's an equivalentcy rating. You are to replace a 3oow with that one.

If Mars was the only company that actually advertised the running wattage instead of the equivalentcy rating, it wouldn't go over very well. Everyone e else advertising 1500w and Mars advertising 300w for the equivalent light.

The industry has set the standard. Mars is just following the standard of equivalentcy ratings. Blame the industry, not one single manufacturer.
Not all industry do that Spectrum king has a SK402 which is 400 TRUE watts which is 2 meanwell driver hlg-285/a/b..etc...Chilled logic 660 and hlg 550 those are all TRUE wattage from the wall ...so for you to say that they all do it is another falsehood and it still doesnt make it right. It should state MARS 185 and its not even 185 more like 156...so whats up with that? If i sold you cannabis I say its a 1oz portion and it gets you high like a 1/4 pound of swag it that right? no its wrong its taking advantage of people in a culture that has endured enough strife and demonization and they are profiting off it.......Its misleading no matter how you dice it . Its BIG corperations taking advantage of uninformed people its not right. and if you break it down its not even 185 true watts at that ........TSK! TSK! now the SP250 has a meanwell driver and its 240 watts , Thats all i am asking from them. To sell what they advertise. I think Mars has come around and been doing things to their own higher standards as of these newer lights which is commendable. Now they can just convert from epistar to cree and it will be more efficient then they already are. I am in no way complaining about the price or quality from MARS because they are unbeatable IMO in those categories but the OLD ways of NOT clarifying and click bait is BS and we should all ask for corps. to jus advertise of what your really getting with no confusions.

Seems the most popular company does not exaggerate the wattage. I still think hlg is way too expensive for what you get though.

There’s alternatives to HLG. Of course HLG is going to be a little more pricey. It’s a brand they’ve built and their name means something. Same goes in any industry. If you build a name and have a solid reputation then you are entitled to ask a little more.

You can bash Nike for charging what they do when Sketchers charges less than half what they do. But why waste your energy?

There are many companies that state the TRUE watts..Nextlight is another. Californialightworks is another.

The aim of this constant comparison is to CONFUSE and sell more garbage to the unsuspecting. If a manufacturer can sell its wares under false pretexts, their profits don't feel a thing. The poor ones that got sucked in won't be fooled again, but it doesn't really matter, since 2 will take the place of the one that sucked in. Repeat business is not a term that many imports value. It is unfortunate that these companies have injured the reputation of LED growing.

There is NO confusion on the part of these companies selling BS specs..They know exactly what they are doing and many have been called out publicly for years!

They also do their own R&D and don't sponge off others😜

With that said, I have and will purchase lights from others with the same tech that give an honest representation and have quality CUSTOMER SERVICE! Bad CS can't hide behind a language barrier and is exposed for what it is.

Absolutely. And great example with Nike!

At least they dont claim their shoes run 100mph. Lol.

Hlg sure understood brand marketing and forum marketing thats for sure. I think cobs or strips do a better job from what i have seen. The boards dont spread out the light as well and dont seem to penetrate as deep.

If I paid the medium high money like hlg i would choose timber. The high money for the popular top of the line stuff like fluence is just rediculously priced. $1700 and up for a 4x4 space lit. My van i drive every day cost $1700. Lol.

But hlg advertises proper wattage and calls the boards by the diode count. I cant go with a company that calls a 200 watt lamp 1000 watts. Honesty goes a long way with professionals. This is noob grower marketing. Shameful in my opinion. Regardless of the shitty competition.

But its no different than most of the rest of the rediculous rip off the new grower/smoker weed industry.

I think strip lighting is the way to go and I’m sure HLG will get there if they haven’t already. Their honesty goes a long way. Cobs imo are great for penetration but fall short when it comes to spectrum flexibility and canopy coverage. Quantum strips help in both regards.

Another shady habit that I have seen when companys become a forum sponsor (not this forum), is to complain to mods when they are called out publicly. They also have their own trolls (some paid off with gifted lights) to do their dirty work for them.

BTW..I mentioned a while back that HLG actually got their SMD start by knocking off Nextlight! However, that's as far as it went, and they actually improved on the original.

A company like mars could blaze a path and recreate their brand with the resources they have. However they don’t seem to understand or be very self aware of what they have built their brand to be. Apparently they sell enough as is and can’t see the value in doing so.

I care about this forum. And any company willing to support this community is worth the effort. However you can’t help someone that won’t help themselves.

Well said..Thats the inly point I was /am making WE should help and educate the noob not take advantage of their lack of knowledge to line their corperat
Thats not a real HLG light fixture though. HLG dont sell on alibaba, its a copycat brand knocking off real HLG boards.
its still samsung 301b diodes quantum boards(hlg gets ALL the supplies and marks it up $700 bucks because they know what we want the lights for) just like flood trays ,airpumps etc...another example of big conglomerates of BIG MONEY. and meanwell driver....toss a few wagos on and velouz!! They have exact same reading in all specs!!!

yes warranty seems to be a little better with a brand name of quality guarantees of light engines for 3 years and lights not losing their capacity or efficacy up holds at 90% i believe for 5 years.

Alibaba.com you get HLG 600 for $335 plus shipping....Thats a great deal!!!

Hlg boards are custom made to their specs. They are supposedly have improved diode placement and use the best components.

That said. I have often considered the ali baba option. But i keep burning light bulbs still.
