i have 4 of these: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hydro-C...le-Grow-Light-System-CMH01-315-ROPE/302785610
using a phillips bulb. i'm early in the stages so i've only been using 1. i had the seeds (solo cup) in the left side of my tent and a second light on the other end to keep the tent heated.

i had 8 seeds, paper towel'd, they sprouted 2", i cupped them, and proceeded to kill them (i think) i believe from too much light so early in the seeds life. or overwatering but i believe it was from the light intensity.

i just switched over to a blurple light so i'll see what happens. but i have 8 (more) seeds remaining and likely a reboot/retry coming up using those 8 seeds. i'm going to use the blurple led for the early stages, but when should i switch over to the CMH lights? and should i only use 1 CMH until a certain size is reached?

if it helps, tent size is 48x96x72" and i plan for 8 plants but i think 3 lights is all i would need? they cover a 3'x3' area they say.

Seedlings need much much less light and water.

Most people just use a flourescent bulb or fixtures for seedlings and clones. A 315w CMH is definitely too much for a seedling.

When watering, wait till the solo cup feels light, you can keep another solo cup of dry dirt around to compare if you need.

Good luck!

I'm not super familiar with florecent lights. I place clones and seedlings under 4 15w (100w eq) led bulbs at about 2.5 ft away. Because that's what I have in my veg closet.

If I was to build a clone/seedling box/tent I would probably use 2 18" 6500k flourescent bulbs in a 2x2 space and get them within 5 or 6 inches of the tops.

Nothing to show at the moment, but I use 315s for young plants. I have dimmable ballasts, but run them full go. Definitely not utilizing them at 12" from canopy as I would after week 3 of flower, but I see no Ill results at 24"-30" from canopy for seedlings as long as your plants have their nutritional and environmental needs met.

Bruce Bugbee seems to think starting plants in the fast lane has it's benefits. I find that it takes a few weeks off of veg with my favorite OG strains. I typically veg those out longer to handle all the yield they stack in flower.

I'd definitely recommend Budget LED for flowering. Amazing lights..

Some recent tidbits from ole' Bruce

Im about halfway through this vid. So far very useful info from a reputable source.

He just said something that is also as important as light. That cannabis needs no special nutrients. Just a complete balanced nute. No mention of increased pk or lessened nitrogen in flower. I have posted dyna grow video about this. It is fully tested.

So why is everyone buying and selling bloom nutes still?

Thanks for posting this. :-)

I use bloom nutes to fix my npk ratios in late flower, but I'm also reducing my main feed a bit to keep my ppm's in a desired range.

I fix these ratios because I was taught that potassium is utilized a bit more for ripening. Most folks seem to just add it, to whatever their normal feed routine is, and wonder why they run into nute burn.

I'm open ears to anything that may improve my grow, I've been reading a lot of Bruce's research over the past few years. Pretty sure there's a few other videos where goes more into spectrum, etc.

Well the point is that the plant does not need an altered ratio ever.

Dropping the bloom nutes all together and tapering the grow down as they ripen has increased my yield and potency along with better health through to the end.
