what temp are you shooting for during your freeze? i used dry ice last run and i think i may have over froze it, if that's possible? i will say it worked great for prepping the wash solution, but not so much the post wash if that makes sense.

i did some moon rocks with a run and had great results. the nug and kelf removed any trace or hint of that green taste for lack of a better word. as i finished it on a mat i placed my nugs on it and made 'roll ups' then roll in the keef. impress your friends and show em how mayans build shit!! šŸ¤Ŗ

Don't have any idea what the temp is. But will find out.

Now that sounds like and awesome smoke... will have to try that. Whenever we visit CO i like to go to my favorite store and purchase a Caviar pre-rolled. It is constructed just as you described. One J keeps me and the Mrs. AA in orbit for hours and usually we get to two good buzzes each. The cough factor will make you quit half way through or pee on yourself as your lungs hit the ground. šŸ¤žšŸ¤— Good Shit for sure....

Your idea sounds like the bomb... will try that when my premo gets delivered.

did i mention that part i read about over cooking? anyway i read somewhere that once the larger bubbles change to small outside ones, its time to pull it as we are cooking it off the bubbles are trapped CO2 ? i dunno but i tried it and it made a difference in color and sight taste. i'm convinced the stuff i buy that taste so good has had terps added back into it for favor./

So pull the plug on the still when the bubbles get small (say less than an ounce in the bottom) then let it air evaporate? I could see that providing a better taste and color. If you look at some of the ending photos from the last distill... the color is reasonable until the very, very bottom.

This is a photo taken just as i put the top on for the final cycle. šŸ¤ž

rolling a 'J' would be even easier i'm sure man !! i never thought of it tbh hahah but it will happen here sooner than later !! i bought one of those auto grinders. called the easy grinder, anyway it makes keef at the touch of a button with collection like i've never seen.

yeah the small bubbles are just CO2 that was created during the vac. and since the machine has no temp control it will get hotter as you have less product in the pot. does that make any sense? but man that looks so good and right. how many cycles are you running? i might run that for 30 mins and then begin my purge. do you like using the vacuum, does it help? i used a silicon or teflon mat and a low heat hot plate grill thing on 100 with a small fan for hours and hours and i still get that pure grain taste!! WTF help

I started with a little over a Liter maybe a liter and a 1/4. I think it took 5 runs (had to drain the tank twice). At the end of each run i simply topped off the crucible and restarted the unit; then waited 2.5 hours, rinse and repeat.

as for the final evap. I don't haven't given it much thought yet. I suspect i will just put the crucible into the vac chamber and leave the top off and add some heat. not to exceed 100 degrees F.

More thought required..... more smoke... šŸ»

thats a lot of keef šŸ˜€ my friend

...

Problem is that i cannot figure out how to collect it with out it flying all over the place. The surface of the guacamole bowl is not smooth, so i think that is going to complicate the collection effort.

pour when warm and use a small cake spatula is what i do. note that thing will continue past one 105 if left plugged in. however it will hold vacuum pressure at 100% without power over night. now if that helps any i have no clue. after my last run i clean up and then heat it up and get a 100% seal then turn the unit off to stop the heat and keep the vac locked

after seeing their new unit. i feel like a beta tester that funded the real product. they should offer guys like us a trade in on the new model.

Damn. I thought i had the new model ... lol that figures drop 6 (actually 5 with discount) bills and get the discontinued version...

I know they have the mondo-version that holds a full Liter or more.. going out to look at the "new and improved" list of features for the personal model....

Pssst... i'm still within my 30 day return period.... lol

That works. I purchased the mat from the vendor that has a top and a bottom section. The bottom section looks like it will hold all of the liquid from the crucible (as long as it is only the last after final cycle cut-off.

I don't think there is any such thing as "too cold" even ExtractCraft has instructions for using dry ice... https://extractcrafter.com/2016/07/20/good-shatter-from-bad-trim-with-the-source/

.... Place the cannabis and Everclear into separate ziplock bags and put them in the cooler with the dry ice. The amount of dry ice depends on how much cannabis you are planning to wash. For small amounts just a few pounds of dry ice is sufficient, then the more cannabis you are preparing the more dry ice you will require. After about 1 hour the solvent should reach the target temp of -40Ā°f. If you donā€™t want the added expense and hassle of using dry ice you can simply put the solvent and cannabis in the freezer overnight. Dry ice substantially lowers the solvent temperature far lower than the freezer can which is instrumental in reducing green leak from choppy trim, but, itā€™s not as necessary with good flower.

Even in my BHO days i used a dewaxing sleeve and dry ice "rice" and alcohol slurry to keep the column super cold during extraction. The colder the solution and herb the longer the soak time before it begins to turn green because the cell walls have been destroyed.

i went so long the entire jar froze ?

Yeah; jacking with dry ice requires lab glass for sure (avoid the cheap shit). Regular glass will get way to brittle to trust to hold a large quantity of highly flammable liquid. Be safe šŸ¤— don't burn.

HOLY SHIT BATMAN!!!

That is friggin awesome. I want, i want. i want...

I'm with you. Time to "get busy" dude!!

btw: i was told that if we want to save our pumps that we will need a cold trap. The only one i found reasonably priced was from bvv. Since we are looking at pouring a lot of solvent into the vac, the off-gassing will end up in the pump and fuck them up. The theory is the same as BHO closed-loop processing. Dry ice goes in then cold trap center hold. As solvent off-gasses as it heats up; physics says that the vaporized gas wants to "chase the cold". In other words it will flow towards the coldness (on the outside of the center hold with the dry ice; the two don't mix) so that it can condense and be collected.

The trap goes between the vac and the pump with an isolation valve between the cold trap and the pump so that the cold trap is part of the vac system. Now for the bad and the good part. A lab quality cold trap is around 1500 bucks (and that is a cheap one). On the other hand the one from BVV is 200. šŸ»
