Hey guys so I’m starting my first grow. So far I have 2 1k watt lights, a 8x4 and 6.5’ tall tent, my medium will be coco and I’ll be running a 2 part veg and bloom nutrient system. I also have a small bottle of each ph down and up i got off Amazon. And calmag just in case. Should i use RO water? At what hight do u recommend I start my lights at for veg? My ending pot will be a 6x6x6 Could I start my seeds in this pot or should I start them in solo cups? I was thinking of popping 3 beans of 4 different strains so 12 plants in total hoping most are fem being that they are regular seeds. Also i attached a picture of the ac system i will be using. Could i run a carbon filter with this? Thank you in advance for any help and tips. I’ll be posting pics of my buildout as I go just waiting on a few parts to get delivered still 🙏🏽

Start seed up in small pot then as you see the plant use up the pot then it's time to pot up to your size pot to finish off in .

Should you use RO?
- Depends on what your water's starting ppm is. If you are in the city you can get a water report. Look at sodium, calcium, and micro level. Anything over about 110ppm I would start looking into it.

Can I get a carbon filter for this?
- Yes. 6in might not cut it with 2 1k's. Might want an 8in if you can swing it.

At what hight do u recommend I start my lights at for veg?
- At least 3ft or so for veg if under the 1k's. If you can turn the 1k's down to 600 I would do that to save heat/electric. 1200 vs 2k wont be that much of a difference for veg. MH vs HPS will tho. Get cheap MH's from amazon if you like like the ipower ones. They work fine.

- That is wishful thinking. Pop twice as many seeds as you want plants to be on the safe side. In a tent veg is going to be restricted because of height. Plan on the plants to double in size at least on flip. 12 plants in a 4x8 with a 6.5 ft height is going to be on the lower side and a lower yield unless you go ham on training for a month.

Be very minded on veg time. Sex wont show till at least 5+ weeks in veg. You can always cheat and clone all of them before they show and flip the clones to pull males early or flip them all and pull first week or 2 when they show. It's very easy to overgrow a tent on a seed run and get them crispy being too close to the light unless you have them sitting on the floor of the tent (which I wouldn't do) since you will need at least about 18in from the top of the canopy to the lights with spot on cooling. More if not so spot on.

yeah man with a 4x8 and 12 plants to properly manage that height while attempting to fill room you would need to scrog plants or lst them in a way to spread out canopy

Yea I figured I would start in smaller pots. I ordered PotPro blocks from floraflex so I’ll throw all them in a wheel barrel and soak em and fill up my pots and cups as I go thank you

thank u yes I’m in the city and I’ll try getting the report from the city water management. Also I’m short on cash now I’ve spent a lot on genetics but I do have a few fans so 6” for now. I have a few fans tho ima put out also. And yes I have luxx lights with both hps and mh bulbs. I see I can adjust them also. So I’ll definitely pop another bean or 2 of each strain. I can’t wait

I was thinking of running more but don’t want to put to much on myself since it’s my first time. I really wanted to pop one strain only a 12 pack and try pheno hunting. But decided not to so I can keep some beans so when I get better at this.

Hey guys so I guess I decided in buying an ac unit now instead of running into temp problems down the line. Which one do u guys recommend? Been looking at a few on amazon. But not sure if one is more reliable or not. Thanks in advance

How are you planning on doing the watering? 6 x 6 x 6 is the standard rockwool size.

Gonna be in 6” floraflex pots. Using coco. Since I work crazy hours I was gonna plan on feeding once at night time. If I can’t get a timer on my watering system but if i can I’ll water maybe for 40 seconds 4 times during lights on

Please do not throw out the word pheno hunting without really understanding what it means. Can you pheno hunt with a dozen seeds, well you might get lucky. But to honest pheno hunting is done on a much larger scale. Like hundreds or thousands of seeds and selections made from that point.

Meant like keepers lol. But u never know I might get lucky. I’ve spent good money on genetics. And I’m not gonna keep just anything. It’s not my style

I looked at those pots, filling them with Coco will work. But you are going to have to set up an way to water them. I do not believe the plant in mid flower can be supported with watering once so you would have to set up an automatic watering system.

I ordered these figured it was kinda cheap for a start and easy setup getting everything from one place. I’ll just have to figure out how to run the submersible on a timer

You are really taking on a lot and not setting yourself up for success. The system you are designing is basically a drain to waste set up that is extremely advanced for a new grower. I totally understand, we all want the best and quick.
The challenge is reading the needs of the plant. And you want to grow multiple strains, with an automatic watering system. It all sounds great. Please consider the needs of each strain will be slightly different. Than add in the media you are growing in, coco that is basically just a 6" x 6" x 6" cube. Things can go south in less than 24 hours with this set up. If I could give you one single piece of advice it would be to put the training wheels on and start in soil before you take on such an advanced growing style. Learn to understand the plant and its needs. Your first post you mentioned Cal Mag, well they will go thru that stuff like mad until the coco absorbs what it is lacking. If you read it wrong you are going to be pulling your hair out trying to figure out why the plants look sick. Please take my advise and start out in soil with some basic nutrients and get a successful harvest. Then you can start pushing the plant and eventually get into the setup you have purchased.

Thanks for the advice. I have been reading up a lot on coco growing specifically for about 6 months now. And the coco flora flex uses is supposedly pre buffed so I’m hoping not to have to flush too much or charge too much with calmag. I have ph meter and test kit and also a tps meter so I’ll see what I get. Still waiting on everything to arrive to start putting it together. I’ll also be using their 2 part veg and bloom nutrients on the heavy side. Most of the strains I’ll be running have either sunset sherbet, icc or gelato in it so I’m hoping I won’t have to adjust my feedings much. I’ll have two different reservoirs if that’s the case. For a lighter feeding if needed. Also got powersi coming in to add to my seedlings

IDK if I agree with that.

DTW is almost idiot proof in coco. Specially for people starting out. Don't have to worry about add backs. Don't have to fuck with PH. Don't have to worry as much with over waterings. Can focus on the growing side of it like training/topping ect. Don't have to guess when you should start feeding after they absorb everything in the soil. I mean look at the number of threads here with people overfeeding and overwatering soil plants on the first rounds or PH issues. It's hard for newer growers to grasp the concept of chill and let it grow. Automating it takes all of that out of the equation and a lot of times keep people from messing with stuff when they shouldnt.

The only problem with newer growers and DTW is getting lazy and not checking their systems or think "its fine" when it isnt. I would just suggest you use something like 3 gal pots vs something like 6in coco's first cause that will give you way more wiggle room and not turn south on you before you know it's happening. That also gives you the option to hand water unlike 6in that will need to be watered multi times a day in flower. Not to say you can't rock it out with 6in pots just saying 3 gals are more forgiving. 6in is still pretty easy. Just dont water the shit out of them after you transplant for the first week in veg. After that it's fine. Min of 2-3 waterings a day to runoff or more if doing smaller feeds.

From what I hear it does sound pretty easy. I do have a few questions tho. Like what table and tray do u recommend I use for this 8x4 tent. I would like the shortest one possible but big enough where I can fit a plastic tub or something underneath for the runoff
