Here it goes...

Starting my first ever grow with a 60 gal/8-site RDWC set up in a 5x9 Gorilla tent. The lung room is a MI basement averaging around 63/67 deg and 55% RH with 65/90 deg outdoor temps throughout these summer days.

The ladies are accompanied by:
  • 2x Kind K5 xl750s
  • 6" exhaust fan w/ carbon filter
  • 3x 6" clip-on fans & 36" oscillating tower fan
  • Oil heater w/ Inkbird
  • Humidifier w/ Inkbird
  • Bluelab Guardian monitor

The clones are a mix of Purple Drank Breath and Sophie's Breath, and yes, they are literally mixed without identification, but that's how they were received. It might get tricky feeding these strains in one system, especially since I will be unsure of which strains are alike. But we will see how it goes. Giving the Flora Trio a try with Armor Si, Calimagic, and hydroguard. Open to suggestions in the additives department when we get there.

I started (12) clones in a 10-gal DIY bubble cloner with 6x medium round airstones (to be replaced with linear). Cut stems underwater in a cup at 45, dipped into Clonex gel, and placed into the cloner. Light is dialed to 25% power with Kind's "cloning spectrum" (R: 15%, B: 30%, M: 30%). Light is set for 24H.

Room: is at 75 deg, +/- 2 deg, and 80% RH +/- 3%.

Water: is 71 deg, pH 6.1, appx 6 gals RO with 10ml hydroguard

After the first night, inside the dome was 96% humidity and 75 deg. The girls were droopy, probably stressed from the light being initially turned up yesterday. Looks like they're starting to stand back up. I decided to nix the dome because it had such little space over the canopy. RH is high and they can breathe fresh air now.

Dang, What a beautiful setup man. Excellent for the first grow. Seems like you have this down already.
I'm ready to see the buds flow. I've got my chair and i'm ready to watch this grow!
Welcome to the farm, glad to have ya!

Very nice setup. Well done. This is actually the exact size tent and nutrient delivery system that I was looking at before just pulling the trigger and going outdoor this year. Will make sure to follow along so that I can learn from everything you are going to experience. Please keep the posts coming. Definitely following along. B8kd

Thanks guys, I will do my best to keep up with this and see it through to the end.

Day 2: They are starting to bounce back slowly, I am sure they will be fine and the new airstones should be arriving today to get more evenly dispersed bubbles in there. Water temp crept up to 72 deg overnight, and the room is at 75 deg. I did top off the res yesterday with fresh RO because a few clones were shorter than expected. Doing so brought the temp down to 71 deg.

Q: Any suggestions for cooling the cloner water temp? I read (somewhere) that a 5-10 deg difference in water/room temps is ideal.

I see people recommending plastic soft drink bottles for cooling a res. I am a little baffled because all of this money is spent to have food-grade plastic buckets, fittings, tubing, so then why would I want to toss in cheap plastic that we know leaches harmful chemicals into our drinks, let alone our grows?

Day 6: The clones are looking alright. Some of the newer growth is droopy and those leaf centers are looking more bright green than before. No signs of roots or stubs. I plan on changing the RO water + hydroguard tomorrow.

I noticed a brown spot on one of the fan leaves, I think it was caused by a water droplet. Is there any harm in leaving it on or is it best to remove it?

Day 13: 10 plants have started rooting, first signs on day 11. No water change, waiting on a part for the RO permeate pump. I found that the 4" linear airstones were absolute garbage and replaced them with the medium round airstones from ecoplus a few days ago. An inconvenient design flaw on the cloner was feeding the airlines through the lid rather than the side of the bin. I will definitely change this for the next round.

Update: Day 18 in the cloner.

Room: 76 deg/ 80% rh
Water: 73 deg/ 5.8ph/ 170ppm

Roots started to take off and I swapped the res with tap water + 2ml each gro/micro/bloom, +10ml hydroguard. Root development is looking nice but up top, they still look really stressed and or deficient. I am waiting for one more clone to take off so they can be moved to buckets and get some breathing room.

Day 21: Roots in the cloner 2 days before transplanting. 12/12 rooted.

7 21 20 1

Day 23: Transplanted 8 of the healthiest plants to buckets. Filled the system with 55 gallons of RO and fed with Si, CalMag, Micro, Gro, Bloom, Hydroguard, in that order.

Room: 76 deg/ 80% rh
Water: 500 ppm, 71 deg, 5.6 pH

Day 25: Water temp is creeping up so I am going to relocate the air pump to outside the tent and run 3/4" tubing to the manifold. Anything I can do before adding a chiller I suppose, and it really should have a check valve to be sitting where it is anyway.

Room: 76 deg/ 80% rh
Water: 600 ppm, 74 deg, 6.3 pH

@GreenFlowerer Thanks for checking in! These pictures were at the start of Week 7. I backed off to 1100 ppm then. Trichs have a ways to go, but I will start keeping a closer eye on them soon.

So far everything has been smooth, I had a few thrips early on that probably came with the clones, but a few treatments of Captain Jacks took care of them during veg.

I know there's a spectrum of opinions on flushing that vary based on media, but I planned to give them 3-4 days of just RO at the end. Any advice from the DWC community here?

Flower Day 67

Started the flush day 65, straight RO water. I have to chop them down on day 70 or wait until the following Monday, and I think they'll be ready.

I did not tuck and scrog like a planned to, instead, they grew through and used the trellis for support. A few colas that grew within 4-5" of the light are bleached, otherwise, the buds are dense, sticky, and smell great. It looks like most if not all of these are Sophie's Breath.

Well, these plants turned out to be Sophie's Breathe and I yielded 20 oz on my first grow without any major issues, so I will call it a success. The plants grew tall and cost me light distribution and weight, but I recently raised the lights 5" by eliminating unnecessary hangers and will be tucking next run to achieve a more even canopy.

Jet-A cuts are rooting in the cloner, hydroton is soaking in diluted 35% H202, I picked up some Doctor Zymes to treat thrips that came with the clones, and I grabbed Current Culture nutrients for the next run.

Hopefully, this will be of some use to someone down the road, and if there are any questions feel free to reach out. Thanks for hanging along!
