sounds good, ill find something different for a cal mag. i figured the 2 Afghans will probably be flushed after the next feeding, so at this point its m9re about what im takin away but you have been a huge help.i never did add any microbes, just the mycorrhizae that was in there to begin with, which from what i read is lacking. definitely would like to do something different soil wise this next time around and also get away from the general hydroponics 3 part. definitely have learned alot through this round for sure though. also, my tap water is roughly 275 ppm out the tap. would it be acceptable to let it sit for a few days and for the chlorine to evaporate or just go with filtered. there are a couple youtube growers who ive watched that feed exlusively with there own brewed tees which was super cool to see. i would definitely like to go completely organic. at this point tho i really just need to track down some different cal mag and begin next time a bit more intelligently. again, thank you so much for your help, its definitely been huge

Look into Green Planet line of nutrients. As for going organic you should try out a few grows with soil and Coco learn along the way then switch over to organic once you've got enough knowledge. I'm doing a 100% Dutch Coco coir grow outdoors with Green Planet 3part and I have to say their nutrients is forgiving and has enough nutrients and enhancers so you don't have to go buying other brands of nuts to mix in. They also have an organic line too which is what your looking into. But from reading what you got going now. Id flush them. And just run Carbo water

Straight out of the bag. No amendments, but the guys at the shop tried to sell me expensive microbes to add to the soil. All I did to reduce/eliminate gnats was a thick layer of organic compost which after watering creates this “concrete” shell over the top of the pot. Also used yellow sticky cards to catch them. I only added microbes throughout the grow via teas I made, free tea SD Hydro makes, and the Rhizotonic. I also used Cannazyme which is an enzyme that helps break down old roots in the soil. The grow was simple. I’d go organic or at least a different system next time. I have a new grow I just started. Everything I ordered from Buildasoil in Colorado. Malibu living organic soil and Organics Alive food along with a big box of other stuff, microbes, aloe flakes, grokashi, gnarly barley....i went crazy kinda, but I’m excited to see results.

Have you heard of auto pots? Looks like it would be a awesome set up with organic soil as the water system does all the work for you and is gravity fed.

i will definitely look into green planet, i was also will probably look at the bio canna line. i was considering tryong coco next time, however i really want to get a solid grasp on soil before i switch mediums so ill probably do another 2 grows at least with soil. i was probably going to do one more feeding with a different calcium like stp recommended than just go straight water. the amnesia on the right still has a little bit yet tho. appre

Not sure what is around you but Promix HP was a good soil medium, I can’t get it locally here in San Diego but would if I could. I spent some bucks buying my Living organic soil from Colorado...shipping was crazy but I wanted to ensure no bullshit happy frog gnats. I would get soil specific nutrients and feeding schedule. Bio Canna was awesome but expensive! And it’s hard to find, had to buy it online and verify sources, one came expired and they shipped me a second right away. I am all organic and doing it with everything from Buildasoil.com now.
They are on Facebook and IG, he’s responsive, I even messaged him four times today and he replied to them all. That’s a great resource if you had purchased stuff from him, you could ask him what is wrong with your plant and he’d help. Are you in a state where it’s legal?

Hey all, i am nearing the end of my first grow. i have experienced quite a few issues along the way as most probably have. I've worked my way out of some, but currently am fighting with what i am assuming to be nutrient issues. I have done endless research and alot of it has helped but i am at a point where i really could use some assistance. I will try to summerize this as much as possible.
soil: fox farm happy frog with 20% perlite in 5 gal smart pot
nutrients:general hydroponics, 3 part with cal mag plus, gh ph up/down
water:store bought distilled
strain:world of seeds afghan kush ryder auto fem x2, cannuk amnesia auto fem-1
seedling stage- slow growth, but everything looked very healthy. up until week 4 or 5 i did nothing to regulate temp, no nutes. grow conditions werent ideal, temp was 85-90 farenheight with high humidity-80 percent plus. plants never showed any signs of stess. initally had small problem with fungus gnats which i was able to get under control.
-around week 5 i decide its time for a very light feeding of cal mag and molasses. at this time im ph'ing all water down to 5.8. a week or two later rusting on leaves begins. a bit of research prompts me to correct temp and humidity. from here on out i run about 67-70 farenheit with 60% humidity give or take. Conditions didnt do much to improve, but no signs of toxicity.
week 6:upon more research i determine the ph of my water is way to low. Add a little bit of lime to the top soil and start ph'ing water to 6.5-6.7 feeding fraction of values of 3 part, but following ratios. still feeding cal mag, roughly 2-3 ml per gallon. the plants did rebound the last week of veg, but transitioning into flower is really when one Afghan got in trouble, as well as my amnesia which was still in veg at this point. the Afghan was showing classic nitrogen toxciity, as well as what i determined to be calcium deficiency. the amnesia had badly twisted growth with calcium deficiency from what i could tell. at this point i do a flush on both. than end with a very low flower feeding of the 3 part and 3 ml per gallon of cal mag for afgan and a 1/1/1 plus cal mag for the amnesia thats still in veg.
-amnesia improves and is now in flower. needs watering every few days. feed every other time at 350 ppm roughly. i am now watering all plants with my smart pot on top of a 5 gallon bucket. with a gallon, i get about 10 percent runoff. amnesia has been about 600 ppm. last night i fed amnesia 350 ppm .5 gro, 1 micro, 2.25 bloom, and 3 ml cal mag. today i am now seeing a return of the brown spots on larger fan leaves with slightly burnt tips
-afgan has showed no signs of improvement. it drinks its water at half the pace of the other two girls. i am continuing to get the brown spots. this plant has not been fed at more than 350 ppm once per week. it has burnt tips and bad clawing. brown spots on all leaves and bud growth is quite slow. runoff is consistently at 7-800 ppm and run off ph is at 6.3ish with 6.7 in. At this point im wondering about root issues, ive read about brown spots being a fungal infection, which is possible, however it definitely seems to be somewhat nutrient related. the other afghan has gotten almost the exact same treatment. it started as the runt and has been almost problem free since seedling stage. life cycle is claimed to be 70 days with the afghans and 85 i believe with the amneisa. we are currently on day 54.

that sums it up, i wish i would have kept better records along the way of feeding but these plants have not seen much nutrients to date, which is why the nutrient burn (or so i think) is really puzzling me. is it my cal mag? its npk is 2-0-0. any help here is greatly appreciated. i dont know how much hope there is for the afghan, but i think there is still hope for the amnesia. Plus, I'm really trying to gather as much from this first experience as possible. To all of you who made it to this last sentence, i appreciate you more than you know. my next post in this thread will include pictures

Looks like you watered too often and started fertilizing to early before the soil nutrients were depleted.

Also the feed ratio is all wrong. You are feeding more cal mag than base grow nutes.

And if you put 350 ppm in and get 800 out thats the indicator if too much nutrients in the soil.

All you can do. The burns and spots will not recover but should stop advancing. Is to pour fresh water through to good runoff until it runs clearish and reads much lower and should be 6.5 ph or so.

Then when you have flushed put the imbalanced and excess nutes you re feed to at least 20% runoff a mild 350ppm-500ppm at .5 scale grow mixture like shown on the bottle but scaled down to maybe 25% of directions. (I dont know what the ppm will be at 25% just guessing)

Then remove any more runoff dry the trays and wait til the pots are truly light and dry to water/feed again.

Forget bloom instructions. Grow ratio will help fix the plants health.

Hope this helps.

unfortunately i am in an unfriendly state, we have a local greenhouse that carries promix but it is not an organic soil. they do however carry black gold organic. the only thing that worries me about the promix is the time release fertilizers. i ordered roots organic cal mag from htg supply and i saw they had biocanna, i almost bought the whole lineup, just figured i should maybe do some research before pulling the trigger. it wont be until winter until our next grow anyway, we are finishing our basement so once these all finish up, we gotta get all of our final inspections so that can be over with. i germinated these before i really had a good soil ready just out of haste, so i ended up making a hasty decision with the ffhf, however next time i really would like to make my own or do something different, im pretty sure things would have went really well if i had a better idea of what i was doing with feeding. this has been a really good learning experience so far tho for sure. i will definitely check out buildasoil tho. there's are two cannabis friendly bills on the ballat this november so hopefully that can get things going around here so there's a few more options

I just know to keep it simple and learn to work with what you have.

Faster we learn to see issues and correct them better quality and yield is the reward.
thank you for all of that honestly. i was unable to find gypsom at either of the two local gardening stores we have. so that still leaves me with the botanicare cal mag, should i just stick with the 3 part after flushing? ill include a picture of the ratios on the bottle. 50 percent of the bloom ratio and 3 ml of cal mag has put me right around 350 ppm, but that would be in distilled. and i also just realized after taking this picture that since the beginning of this grow ive been confusing tsp for ml, so ya😬 thats certainly not helping one bit. looks like ive been feeding less than an eighth the recommended dosage. so judging by the ratios listed by general hydroponics, i would assume when you say .5 scale gro ratio that would be the general purpose mild veg ratio. if so i would feed .25 tsp per gallon ph'd to say 6.5. If so would it make sense to just do straight water for the last week or so. The afghans only have enough time for 1 maybe 2 feedings if thats the case, the amnesia still has 5 weeks or so left. thank you for the advice though. thats a huge help. also in in sioux falls s.d, all we really have is the big box stores than a good local greenhouse, however its kinda hit or miss and they are fresh out of gypsom. they carry promix but not promix hp unfortunately:/ also with tap water at 275 ppm aprx, would it be advisable not to use that and go with filtered water as stp suggested?

What kind of water is coming out of your tap for PH/PPM? Some water coming out of the tap is good, mine comes out at PH 6.90 and 12-20 PPM.

First of all you are in happy frog? Only needs extra perlite added for drainage. No amendments like green sand or anything needed.

Second tap water is fine in most cases. If the ppm of the water is 250 or lower you are likely fine. Distilled causes problems and is not recomended.

Third cal mag causes issues when not needed. And it is almost never needed in a limed soil grow like happy frog. The calcium and magnesium and iron are in the soil and tap water.

And .5 scale refers to how ec (electrical conductivity is measured). Some nute companies use . 7 as a factor. I use ec when talkin about nute strength or mineral content to avoid even more confusion. Everyone should. Its like metric and english. Different measurements for the same thing.

Finally no .25 ml is nothing. Follow the directions for the whole trio of nute bottles but at 25% of the amount they recommend.

Not sure if i missed anything but you should read a basic grow book for some basic understanding.

I like jorje cervantes and ed rosenthal.

My well water is .3 ec (150 ppm) and 8.0 ph and works fine with no ph adjustment cause of low ppms

thats insane. mine is 8 something with a ppm of 275.

That is close to a working range. I would cut it in thirds or half and half with filtered ro water.

Can try it but use excessive runoff to help dissolve excess calcium. Like 30% runoff every time.

sorry i meant .25 tsp not ml. but ya 275 ppm out of the tap. as far as electro conductivity i have quite a bit to learn obviously. i will pick up one of those books for sure, i dont have a very extensove background in this department so i really need all the help i can get. nvclosetmedgrower on YouTube has put out some good videos regarding more in depth stuff that ive watched, but the nutrient part is definitely a struggle right now

You tube vids are not very good. Too condensed to teach without a good understanding already in my opinion.

For a web site article style instruction i think growweedeasy dot com is bery good. You can follow their instruction and have a great harvest.

But im older and we read books to learn stuff. I had no gardening experience and never even watered a house plant 7 years ago.

I read grow books and avoided the terrible info posted in forum threads and was pretty successful my first year. With practice very successful.

Its impossible to know who knows what they are talking about without a good base knowledge.

I started posting on the forums a couple years after i started to avoid the common confusion they cause.

i hear ya, i have been avoiding the forums for this very reason. it seems like everyone has there own thing that works and own version of how it can be done. at this point though i was pretty lost and though some experienced feedback wouldnt hurt. ill go ahead and feed at the quarter strength grow ratio, im assumin the mild vegatitve grow and not agressive formula as stated on the bottle? i also just picked up 5 gallons of r.o water which i will mix with my tap water. i will definitely be getting those books though, its been to long since ive read a book and i do really enjoy growing and want it to work. my wife and have alot of house plants, but literally thats just watering and transplanting from time to time. we bave an asparagus fern that weve had for 7 years and just water once every two weeks and just finally transplanted out of its original pot. again i really appreciate your time, it definitely means alot

I didnt know you asked me a question. Use @Username to alert a member or quote their post.

The standard grow book or bible is all you need. I think its ed rosenthal the growers handbook and jorje cervantes indoor outdoor medical bible or something close.
