what should be receiving light at 3 weeks.. bud sites or fan leaves?

just wondering what the priority is here?

ive got one plant super cropped/LST/growing horizontally for now. and the bud sites arent getting much light because the plant is so bushy right now and the fan leaves are all so tight and dominating, but the plant is only 3 weeks old.

so. what should be getting the light here, the fan/sun leaves or the bud sites?

3 weeks old? Light EVERYWHERE! You're in early veg so keep them growing and try to keep the bud sites/colas at equal height.

Just be ready for the stretch when you flip. I was not and my guys shot up and now are to close to the lights. :-(

Minor defoliation for light penetration and airflow is not a bad thing. I tend to take the big fans in veg as the lower growth butts up into them. Everything needs light right now buds.

old milk crates is a good idea. I notice the bottom of my smart pots get wet in the center and kinda stay wet.

A jigsaw, an orbital sander, a quarter inch drill bit, a lockdown and a pound of cheese... Those trays were the smartest and most productive thing I've done since late March. They really help!

ok heres what im talking about.

it looks rough.. it looked even worse before. ive trimmed off about 20 fan leaves so the lower stuff can finally get some light and breathe.

this plant is now light green compared to the rest which are dark. this one is planted in the center of the pot.

what am I doing wrong, besides pinning it too close to the dirt? I think I was training it every 3 days which was too long.

I feel like it WAS looking alright at one point... then I got overwhelmed and couldnt tend to them for a few days. now its a tangled, tight, mess.

Double check my man but it looks like you've got a couple of different issues on a few of your plants.

Someone more experience will know a little more and I'd keen to know what exactly myself.

The last picture there looks like its not getting enough phosphorus. Maybe a Calcium or Magnesium issue? The same in the first picture posted also. Are they getting hit by much wind and heat? I had a bit of clawing like that when my fans where too high...

Hope someone can shed a little more light but I'd google the condition they're currently in and have a little read personally.

Dont lst into the dirt, there should be a gap for air between the bottom foliage and the soil.

Personally I would move leaves out to assist her then if you see growth in the bud site an leaves start to look poorly let's say you know what she wants

Then later start to take the big fan leaves off when she really starts to flower you will see the difference in them.

Look at my profile tho methods might be different due to how I do things.

they get Magicali (Mag and Cal), same as all the other plants and the others are doing great. only difference is 1: this one got major LST. and 2: I trimmed about 15 fan leaves off it the other day.... over 50%. maybe I hurt it?

they are getting decent amount of air movement, and normal heat. nothing higher than 30c or 85F.


I blew the dirt away from below the stems. I think that keeps happening when I water. should of LST it when it was taller. oops.

Take the handcuffs off and allow the plant to grow a little. I always allow my plants to stretch a bit, then top or lst. Like fourth said, having the plant that close to the soil prevents good airflow. When you water, it more than likely prevents your soil from drying out evenly. IME in soil, good airflow assist the soil in drying up evenly as the plant uptakes the nutrients and water it needs. This prevents too much saturation in your soil for long periods of time which could potentially lead to root zone issues, and/or slower than normal growth. Happy grows.

yeah its a fine line it seems... ive waited too long then it turns to bark and wont bend, it just snaps. im learning that if I squeze and massage and almost mash the hard stems to be softer, I can get a little more bend in them.

this plant was a first and a definite learning curve. I wish I didnt pin it so close to the soil. im almost ready to give up on this one. its frustrating and looks like shit.

B careful that you dont put a peg too close to the tip.they are that strong that they can snap themselves trying to turn back up..i do exactly what your doing but with the plant in the ground..the only difference is that i only allow 3 sets of nodes steps etc (6 branches) as anymore turns into a mess.i never take any leaves off unless damaged.checkout some of my pics..i do this for stealth and even canopy .have done so for decades..
