Hi,
So I live in Ontario, Canada and our winters get pretty cold up to -25 Celsius, I’m about to start growing indoors but I need to grow in my cold room because I can’t have my house smelling. The cold room is open to the outdoors but through a small air duct so tempatures get cold but not as cold as outdoors. I’m not sure if I should grow in this type of environment. I’m most likely planning on buying a small space heater and putting it on a timer in my tent but I’m not sure if this is a good idea. If anyone knows any heating solutions and do you think my light heat would be enough to heat a grow tent in a room that is -10 to 0 Celsius

I would say go for it!
Growing in cold ass weather is so much better than hot as hell!!
Seal everything, no vents , and maybe go for HIDs lighting cause the saving you will gain on illumination with LED will be lost by those very unefficient space heaters....do the math and see if is worth...depends also on the led fixture...

You may even insulate the tent with those sheets of rockwool or foamboard ....
Just throwin ideas....i fell like with low temps you have much room to play more than hot weather
good luck!!!

Indica can tolerate colder environments much better than sativa, when my heat goes on it messes with my humidity i would not put a heater in your tent but leave it outside to warm the room a bit but keep an eye on your rh, you live in Canada were it is perfectly legal to grow, if it were legal were im at i would not care if my house smelled like weed, i do not grow skunk strains for that very reason.

Do HID lights carry more heat?

Hi, yeah I am currently living in a house with other people who don’t like weed so I can’t stick up anything, i would gladly just grow indoors I don’t care about the smell

If it is about the smell, why not just get an extraction fan and carbon filter and grow in a tent instead of the cold room?

Yeah I am doing that, the carbon filters help but it definitely still stinks. Nothing you can really do about the smell it’s still going to smell a bit

Do you need a ductfan and carbon filter for every tent. Like could I just grow wirh all my vents closed and a small oscillating fan inside the tent or would the air get old

Cold rooms are a water/mold nightmare. As a contractor in Ontario who’s seen his fair share of damage, I’m worried if you have a heater in an unsealed room with a tent inside that. You may be asking for trouble. Can you take pics of the cold room and maybe I could give some guidance to help you retrofit that cold room properly.

You’ve got a pretty nice cold room by Canadian standards. Looks dry 👍🏽
You could put rigid foam up behind where the tent will be to help cushion the environment from temp swings but the big concern is warming it up in there, drawing in a ton of moisture and boom mold.
I think you should be good to go but you have to keep a very close eye when the temps drop, especially Jan/Feb. Watch the humidity in that room. The cold is the least of your worries, especially with an HID light.

I’m pretty bad at explaining myself so ask any questions I didn’t answer.

Ok yeah, I guess there has been some mould problems in that room in the past so It could be a problem, Have you grown indoors? If so was the carbon filter enough to elimate ordors because I can grow in a air conditioned space aslong as there’s no smell

I just started growing indoors again actually. I didn’t have a properly sealed room before but I stilled used a carbon filter and that helped a ton.

I’d be lying if I said you won’t get whiffs of it but not bad.

Also really depends on strain.
